The ranked teams Harbaugh has faced on the road have never lost at home: 45-0 and counting
October 20th, 2019 at 1:34 AM ^
It’s a dumb thing to keep citing his record against great teams on the road.
Nobody wins those games. We dismantled PSU and Wiscy last year at home. Home field is everything in college
October 20th, 2019 at 1:36 AM ^
Every title contending team wins a hard road game. Michigan cannot do that and thus will never contend under Harbaugh. Iowa at Kinnick would be a loss this year.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:39 AM ^
Clemson and ND, but go on
OSU's hardest road game is us
Bama only has to play auburn on the road. Not a coincidence that an easy schedule leads to more wins
October 20th, 2019 at 1:41 AM ^
Michigan would lose to all those teams away. Don’t kid yourself no matter how “easy” contending team schedules seem
October 20th, 2019 at 2:07 AM ^
Harbaugh is not on the level of Saban, Dabo, or Urban Meyer. What other coaches can win these types of games reliably? Maybe we should hire Will Muschamp because hey, he beat #3 Georgia on the road so clearly he's an elite coach.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:33 AM ^
He's on their level pay wise. Enough said. About time to start earning that $8 million.
October 20th, 2019 at 11:07 AM ^
I wish people would stop with the salary talk.. So if he made 2 million, you would be ok with the loss? His salary is his salary, none of us are paying it. If you think you are contributing to his salary in some way, stop. Michigan can afford it. No one else better is running to Michigan for this job that is any better. Plus Ward is not going to have two new unproven coaches in his highest grossing sports within the same year or two..
October 20th, 2019 at 2:02 AM ^
"Iowa at Kinnick would be a loss this year."
Damn, now he is even losing imaginary road games.
October 20th, 2019 at 11:12 AM ^
Michigan almost did just do that and their performance last night would most certainly have been good enough to beat Iowa at Kinnick.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:42 AM ^
No one ever bothers to break down those top ten teams we lost to. First, half of them are literally Ohio State. One was the MSU fumble bullshit, one was fsu without peppers and Butt, road games against PSU and Wisconsin teams that won NY6 bowls, etc. Would everyone be happy if we beat a top ten Minnesota team that starts 10-0 because they don't play anybody? It's a ridiculous stat that people think says more than it does
October 20th, 2019 at 2:05 AM ^
No, not really.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:49 AM ^
Urban Meyer went 54-4 in the Big 10. I'm pretty sure he won tough games on the road. It can be done.
October 20th, 2019 at 3:02 AM ^
So ... we should have hired Urban Meyer then.
But did he really beat good teams? From what I hear all those Michigan teams he beat weren't actually any good.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:11 AM ^
Destroyed by unranked juggernauts Iowa and Purdue also. It can be done.
October 20th, 2019 at 11:13 AM ^
And he's also arguably the best coach of the past 20 years.
October 20th, 2019 at 3:17 AM ^
PSU and Wisconsin were average at best last year. Don’t pretend they were elite/great teams as a cheap way to prop up your arguments.
PSU was a 4 loss team, Wisconsin was a 5 loss team. So what if we beat them at home?
October 20th, 2019 at 6:36 AM ^
Amen. Home field is everything because the officials are invariably intimidated by the crowd (except John O'Neill's crew which is too stupid to notice the crowd). The bunch that reffed this White Out was present to please.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:52 AM ^
Ohio State wins every fucking time they come to Ann Arbor. Are they somebody?
October 21st, 2019 at 3:58 PM ^
if it were everything we would have won a couple games the past 15 years at home against OSU.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:35 AM ^
tut tut
that's enough of this rationality business, move along now, we'll have none of that here. harumpf!
October 20th, 2019 at 6:06 PM ^
Speaking of harrumpf harrumpf
It is only rational if you agree with it.
Harbaugh is underwhelming. NOBODY here thought the team would be floundering about like this after five years.
BUT what fits your narrative is whatever justifies Harbaugh.
Keep it up--and remember--a lot of the better coaches capture something great early on and sustain it. If Harbaugh has a plan to do something wonderful, it had better happen quick.
I know the disappointment is on the fans, they are the ones who bought into the mystique, who kept saying STANFORD UPSET USC! SUPER BOWL! QUARTERBACK GURU! PUT THAT TOGETHER WITH THE MICHIGAN BRAND AND WATCH THE EFF OUT EMM EFFER!
And no, it is not like Harbaugh came in here swinging his big coaching you-know-what being brash and quiet. No. He came in humble, went to work quietly, and set about building a winner.....
October 20th, 2019 at 1:37 AM ^
I feel conflicted by this. He's had awful luck and terrible officiating in his biggest road games, not to mention going up against some crazy good squads in those games. But on the other hand, he's had some pretty incredible luck go his way against some not great teams. Definitely should've lost at Minnesota in 2015 if not for a bizarre decision by an interim coach. Took some miraculous plays to beat IU that year too. Dicked around and needed overtime to beat IU two years later. Got down 17 at NW and needed an absurd comeback. Definitely feels like the luck is not evenly distributed. Probably should have some losses to Indiana and Minnesota, but definitely should have at least one more win each over MSU and OSU. In retrospect, I think people would gladly take some upset losses in exchange for wins like those
October 20th, 2019 at 9:55 AM ^
The "luck" argument.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:38 AM ^
Fascinating stat - thanks for sharing.
Today was a missed opportunity. We out-gained them 417 yards to 287 yards
October 20th, 2019 at 1:40 AM ^
(*aggressive eye roll*)
October 20th, 2019 at 1:43 AM ^
There might be a medication that can help your condition.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:44 AM ^
How do you explain the ugly bowl losses then? Both teams are on the road in a bowl- but we are the one that gets blown out.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:55 AM ^
The only blow out bowl loss was Florida without Higdon, Bush, and others right? That's just the reality of modern college football. Those games don't matter when millions of dollars are at stake for players
October 20th, 2019 at 1:47 AM ^
Michigan has NEVER beaten a team on the road that went on the finish the season undefeated! Not once!
October 20th, 2019 at 1:55 AM ^
Neither has Nick Saban! Or Dabo, Urban Meyer, and Kirby Smart! Bo couldn't even do it. Bear Bryant, Woody Hayes, and Fielding Yost couldn't do it.
And yet for some reason, Harbaugh is the only one who gets shit for it.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:55 AM ^
I expect to see this every time we have a game on ESPN
October 20th, 2019 at 1:50 AM ^
So, Michigan was undefeated at home last year. We beat PSU and WI!
October 20th, 2019 at 8:36 AM ^
And on year 5, still no B1G titles. And many said this should be the year.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:50 AM ^
We’re 0-16 in our last 16 games on the road vs top 15 teams. Tom Brady was our QB the last time we beat a top 15 team in the road.
Yeah, they’re hard to win, but there are coaches who win them. Urban Meyer won serval. Heck, Mark Dantonio has like 5 or 6 top 15 road wins at MSU.
PSU was a very beatable team tonight. I thought they were overrated going into the game and I still think they’re over rated. Close isn’t good enough.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:57 AM ^
Would you trade programs with MSU right now? The wins come with long term sustained success
October 20th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
MSU has 3 Big 10 titles, 2 division titles and one Final 4 appearance in the last decade. We haven't even sniffed that.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
We? Go away sparty troll
October 20th, 2019 at 2:13 AM ^
Yeah, they’re hard to win, but there are coaches who win them.
Which coaches? Saban, Dabo, and Urban Meyer? They're the only coaches I know of who win those games reliably. Yeah, Mark Dantonio beat Michigan and OSU on the road in 2015. But in order to do so, he had to use some kind of satanic witchcraft that in hindsight seems to have been the last drop of the cursed black magic he built his career on.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:20 AM ^
Dabo doesn't play road games. Only neutral field games against bama that he wins half the time. We have seasons where we play on the road in Madison, Happy Valley, South Bend, and Columbus in one year. Their hardest road game is South Carolina every other year
October 20th, 2019 at 2:21 AM ^
Nah he’s not a good coach, I’m gonna go with witchcraft. Yes, that seems logical.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:50 AM ^
Yes they are overrated. They're worse than the team that Kentucky thrashed last year.
October 20th, 2019 at 7:31 AM ^
That's just not true no matter how many times you say it, so you can stop now.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:52 AM ^
Take it easy on him, it's not like his teams come out on the first play and have to call a timeout before running it.
Oh, wait.
October 20th, 2019 at 5:23 AM ^
so what
October 20th, 2019 at 7:07 AM ^
A certain percentage of the group here loves themselves their moral victories and seriously tries to trot out stupid shit like this just to prove that we are the Moral Victory National Champions every single year.
I’ll never understand.
it’s like some of you would rather lose just so you can beat your chest about how hard it is to win fucking football games.
You would rather win your gold medals in mental gymnastics trying to convince the rest of us that Jim really is the best coach in the country, it’s just the B1G, the refs, the football gods, the fans, the away stadium experience, Chris Fowler, Hoke’s recruiting, Rich Rod’s recruiting failures, the players’ parents - literally ANYTHING else is the reason he loses games except Jim himself.
I’ll save you the time - Jim is 1-10 on the road against Top 10 teams because he isn’t any good. He is overpaid and passed his prime. The Jim Harbaugh went to the Super Bowl and fucked with Pete Carrol, and slapped Schwartz on the back, and won football games retired the day after the OSU game on 2016.
This guy on the sideline is just a fraud.
October 20th, 2019 at 7:43 AM ^
I feel better now
October 20th, 2019 at 8:00 AM ^
A goddamned Rutger
October 20th, 2019 at 8:30 AM ^
Not yet great, but good. Good is good.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:38 AM ^
Here come the excuses. In the end, you have to WIN on the ROAD against ranked teams. You can play the moral victory card - your choice. We still lost. Great to elite find ways to win some of these games. Michigan does not.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:46 AM ^
I don’t care we are Michigan and we need to win some of those games. Maybe if we come out ready to play in these games we might win some. Can’t keep getting behind big early in games. 21-0 last night. Is just one example.
