I watched the condensed down version of the Iowa/Penn St game and I'm just not that impressed with Penn St's offense. They didnt look much, if any, better than ours. Windsor abused the center and guard all game long so Ruiz and the guards better be ready for him. I think our defense can keep their offense in check as long as our offense doesnt sputter all game long. One of the biggest keys to stopping them is making sure their qb doesnt get free runs up the middle. Getting Paye ans Ross back would be huge as well. I feel Ross and McGrone can stop a lot of their speed stuff

Yep. The good thing about them playing Iowa on the road then us right after is we have everything that we need to stop on film from last week. Those little jukes that the PSU QB was doing picked them up multiple big 3rd Downs, and Iowa didn't really have a way to stop them. However, that QB didn't appear to have much more than that, so we just need to be cognizant.

Friday night on the road. This is NW's Super Bowl. Their fans (all 12 of them) will be fired up. The last two times NW has played OSU in the regular season it was close. 24-20 in 2016 (at OSU) and 40-30 in 2013. NW had the ball down by three late in the 4th but shit the bed and fumbled. Bosa recovered in the end zone. I recall that painfully as I had NW +6.5.

Shea will not let himself be punked by Clifford.  Shea is a senior and will lead his team to victory.

Man, I don't wanna TOOT my own horn but 2 weeks ago I said the PSU line would be Michigan +7.5.  Nailed it.  Legend in my own mind.  I believe I also stated that Michigan would lose by 14+.  I am overdue to be wrong so maybe we only lose by 10.  Nah, fuck that we gon win.

Pretty even match up on paper

2 average QBs,  hit or miss run games, and  very good defense on both sides.

PSU  is more consistent on D though, and they create more big plays with Hamler.

Surprisingly optimistic of you, HP.  I just don't see it.  Harbaugh, for some strange reason, does not do well in road games.  And I am not talking about wins and losses, I am talking about average margin of victory.  UM gets down big in the 1st half, the home team lets up, and it looks like we played ok, when we really didn't.

I see PSU 34 - 17, with a halftime score of PSU 21 - 7.

Michigan could certainly lose this game, but there is no objective reason to be this afraid of PSU.  Moorhead, Barkley, and McSorley are not walking through that door.

This will be a close game either way and low scoring. First team to 20 wins. Michigan and Harbaugh get their first lucky break since the second year of Jimmy’s tenure here. Michigan wins 21-20. Frames settles for a late field goal deep in Michigan territory to pull within one and the scoring ends there.

-7.5 is not insurmountable but I remember the last white out. Here’s hoping it’s the shocker of the Big Ten next week. If nothing else, I’d hate to see Franklin go up one on Harbaugh for all time wins. I think they are tied right now?

By this do you mean H2H record? If so, that is incorrect. Franklin only has one victory over Michigan since coming to PSU (2017). He's 1-4 against M and 1-3 against Harbaugh. He'd have to win three straight to move ahead of Jim in the H2H and four straight to move ahead in his career versus M.

Franklin has three more wins in his all-time FBS coaching record (75 versus 72), though Harbaugh took over a dreadful Stanford program that had bottomed out under Buddy Teevens and Walt Harris.

If you're referencing something else then I got nothin'.

I do wonder if Saturday is Shea Patterson's last stand.  If we lose in Happy Valley because the offense, once again, looks hapless, I wonder if Harbaugh decides to make a change at quarterback?  If we fall to two losses in B1G, that pretty much puts us out of contention for the conference and maybe you start to groom McCaffrey for next season.

I actually think it should be larger 10 or 10.5.  If the same offense keeps showing up and the fumbles/turnovers keep happening at the pace they have been it’s not even going to be close.  I’m just waiting for something to click on offense. Michigan has the talent to beat them but have not shown the ability on the field yet to beat a team like this.

The only way I see PSU scoring more than 24 is if Michigan's offense keeps turning over the ball and generally does nothing all night.  In that case, I can see the defense throwing in the towel.

But if the offense can move the ball and score, the defense will not be giving up very much.  PSU's offense consists of KJ Hamler and some QB scrambles.  Noah Cain seems like a good back, but he's not a world beater.  And Hamler was easily bottled up by Michigan's secondary last year, and I see no reason he won't be boggled up again...  Let the DT's play a good game, though.  Please.

Just not sure I trust the offense, though.  But especially Patterson, just can't trust him.

I’m not a betting man, but based on our history of shitting the bed, on the road, against ranked teams....this seems like a take. No?

The defense will have to play an immaculate game. I feel like we can win if they do. Judging by how the psu/Iowa went that is. However, that was at Kinnick stadium...and this is at happy valley..where even pedophiles have the home court advantage.

Prove me wrong Harbaugh. Make me a believer and let’s take our first step towards paying Wiscy back in Indy. How sweet would that be!?

I'm surprised the spread isn't higher.   Our D is mediocre and the O is terrible.   What's so maddening is the talent is there, we just don't execute and, at times, look flat-out inept on offense.

I don't trust this coaching staff.  I don't trust this offense.  And I certainly don't trust Patterson.

The only chance we have is for our O to do absolutely nothing the first 3 drives and be down by 10 or more and out of desperation throw in Dylan.  He may fall flat on his face but then, maybe he won't.   It's not like throwing out a true freshman.  The kid is a junior and has shown he can play.

I thought Harbaugh should have played him some against Illinois, but of course he didn't.

Did he look like 'deer in the headlights' when he came in against Wisconsin?

No, he didn't.  He came in and the offense moved the ball.  He looked confident.

I'm not saying that he's going to come in and lay waste against PSU.  What I'm saying is that I don't think we can beat PSU with Patterson but maybe, or maybe not, we can with DMC.

... in garbage time with Wisconsin down their two starting safeties?

I'm just very skeptical someone who has 0 career starts at Michigan is going to come out in Happy Valley and lead us to victory. It's probably moot because a) he's clearly not starting and b) will probably only come in if the game is already decided.

If get by Penn State here will be favored rest of big ten games setting up Ohio state game if everything plays out right way. Still chance to have decent year this is hugely important if so

Sounds correct.... and my prediction is!

Penn State 24

Michigan    17

*I didn't think Penn State played 'lights out' against Iowa, saw a lot of things that they need to clean up; I'll admit I wasn't as impressed with them as I'd been previously.

I think PSU will get on the Board first, and by half we'll see PSU 14, Michigan 7. Third quarter will see a field goal as Brown tightens the grip, but we'll be behind, and the players will give-up in the 4th and let PSU seal the deal.

It won't be the blowout I initially anticipated; at least I hope not.

Just going off of the one common opponent (Iowa) this line actually makes sense. Assuming the old bettors adage that home field typically gives the home team +3 points:

  • Michigan beats Iowa at home by 7. Adjusting for home field advantage, Michigan is ~4 points better than Iowa on a neutral field.
  • PSU beats Iowa at Iowa by 5. Adjusting for the away game, PSU is ~8 points better than Iowa on a neutral field (night game should arguably be more like 3.5 points).
  • 8 - 4 = 4 : PSU 4 points better than Michigan on neutral field. Add 3 points for home field and you land at PSU -7.

All that being said, BPONE. Give me PSU laying the -7.5 ALL DAY. Michigan has not shown they can keep these type of games even remotely close under Harbaugh. I have ZERO hope of actually winning this game.
