What do you LIKE about this team, so far?
September 8th, 2019 at 10:10 AM ^
I like the helmets and uniforms.
September 8th, 2019 at 11:47 AM ^
The fight song is pretty snazzy also!
September 8th, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
I knew I forgot something!
Oh and Charbonnet, he looks like he's going to be really good.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Zach is a star in the making. The defense looks a little better than I thought it would. In particular, the defense appears to be a lot less "boom or bust" this year - which is a good thing.
September 8th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
I like Zach, but was a little disapointed in his lack of wiggle & speed once he gets into space
Great vision and pass pro, but not a star IMO
Turner needs to touch the ball more often
September 8th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
I rewatched the game and thought his wiggle was the only reason we got in the endzone. He’s going to have some crazy good games in his future, once Shay learns how to read the read option.
September 8th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
He’s not crazy explosive, as in he isn’t made of dilithium, but he picks up nice chunks and blocked well again. He’ll consistently get playtime and yards for years.
September 8th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
He’s also only two games into his college career. It takes time to judge other’ angles, momentum and get a feel for probabilities all while you’re on the move yourself. He’s already just about there.
September 8th, 2019 at 5:24 PM ^
Maybe when he gets a hole blocked well enough he will show you some "wiggle"...until then the kid is doing a helluva a job of squeezing every ounce of blood that is available in that turnip. 33 carries yesterday speaks to coaching incompetency-Turner should have had 5-10 of those...well actually, there should have been at least 5-10 more passes.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
That they found a way to win a game, they probably should've lost.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Zach Charonnet being the first RB to live up to the hype since Mike Hart.
The DBs, as usual.
The linebackers
That's about it.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:50 AM ^
Hype? Mike Hart was a generic 3 star recruit. There was no hype around him other than he dominated a shit level of HS football in upstate NY.
September 8th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
Understood. Maybe you have to go all the way back to Chris Perry or Anthony Thomas. But even those guys didn't do much until later in their careers. Regardless of where you draw the line, it has been a long, long time since a hyped RB recruit has come in and immediately shown some flash.
September 8th, 2019 at 12:17 PM ^
Max Martin got more hype than Mike Hart in that RB recruiting class.
Who's Max Martin? Exactly.
September 8th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
The DBs? Army passed the ball like three times yesterday and on one play the entire secondary got burned.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Like Zach Charbonnet... every single thing else needs improvement.
September 8th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
Ronnie Bell was getting open consistently and brought down some key catches. We can debate whether he should pulled in an important catch that he dropped (waiting for the UFR on that one).
Adding Bell as a solid receiving option gives us Bell/Black/Collins/McKeon/Eubanks/DPJ(when he is back). That is a lot of very good options that should be able to exploit a defense when our QB is healthy.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:12 AM ^
Fight Song. Wish I heard it more often yesterday.
Snark aside, uche.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:14 AM ^
The defense is good, we're all set at runningback, and the punting/kicking is rock solid (God bless Jake Moody, an unsung hero of yesterday's game).

We can finally bench Shea. All of you Shea defenders are jokes. I’m glad everyone on this board enjoys being completely mediocre. Anyone who knows anything about football knows our limitations with Shea. It’s time we give our top recruits a chance.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
Shea has issues for sure. For as bad as he's looked so far, do you really think Dylan can thread passes like the ones from shea to Bell yesterday? I haven't seen it so why are you so sure Dylan is the better option? If you wanna get mad at anyone, get mad at Gattis and Harbaugh for their mind boggling play calling...
btw, shea was a higher ranked recruit than any of our other qbs on our roster...
September 8th, 2019 at 11:15 AM ^
*Mind-bottling
September 8th, 2019 at 11:49 AM ^
*Mind-blowing
September 8th, 2019 at 10:31 AM ^
Good grief, please work harder on your thoughts. You are your thoughts and "All you Shea defenders are jokes" is not a great place to be. Over time you will come to understand the ironic thought that the most popular person on a struggling team is the #2 quarterback.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:48 AM ^
Dylan is a superior athlete. He is the best option for this offense. You Shea stans need to wake up
September 8th, 2019 at 11:01 AM ^
How many extra yards do you think Dylan's handoffs are worth?
September 8th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
Good thing Dylan can run, because he hasn't shown he can thread a tight coverage pass.
His best pass was to ronnie bell against Nebraska last year which was a complete loft pass.. outside of that i havent seen anything that would tell us he could go out and beat a ranked team.
September 8th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
I’d take a lift pass right about now. By either QB
September 8th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
In 2014 Gardner was playing so bad that I was clamoring for Shane Morris because I thought he couldn't possibly be worse. Well, Hoke inserted him into the Minnesota game and he was worse. Shea hasn't looked good so far but his passing game is clearly ahead of Dylan's.
If he continues to struggle then maybe give Mccaffrey a shot, but the starting job should still be his when we play Wisconsin.
As to the thread topic....Charbonet and Moody. That's it. Those are the only things I like about this team after 2 games.
September 8th, 2019 at 4:28 PM ^
Most Stans are Polish.
Why do you hate Poles?
September 8th, 2019 at 10:47 AM ^
haha yeah the playcalling and player management was totally flawless, we just need to plug in #10 at the helm is all!
September 8th, 2019 at 10:56 AM ^
I remember last year’s Notre Dame game, as might you. We were installing new OL blocking and assignment schemes and looked DOOMED. Not only did I want to bench both our Tackles, I wanted to launch them into the sun. Turns out, I was wrong and they got better over the course of the year. Now, with a more comprehensive change to the offense, Shea look mediocre at best and a liability at worst. I hope we have the commitment to ride out the transition cost and am actively working to lower my level of concern. This is an important two week break and I’ll withhold judgement until I see how we do at Camp Randall. On a side note, I was not happy with having a bye week so early in the season, but now I think it’s happening at just the right time.
September 8th, 2019 at 11:04 AM ^
And then OSU scored 80,000 points and we looked like shit in the bowl game.
Are you interested in another season of that?
September 8th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^
+1 (if I could)
September 8th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
Good lord, even the topics about what people actually like about the team turns to bitching.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:16 AM ^
Charbonnet that is all
September 8th, 2019 at 10:20 AM ^
The fact that Zach Charbonnet is the only highlight on the offense from me is a bit alarming...
The team shows flashes but turnovers and consistency make it hard to see anything else.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:27 AM ^
Yes it is a bit alarming that a freshman RB and a former basketball player were getting most of our yards yesterday during crunch time
September 8th, 2019 at 11:10 AM ^
I was expecting more from "speed in space". I'm kinda resigned to both Gattis and Nua not living up to the billing.
September 8th, 2019 at 11:49 AM ^
What's wrong with Nua?
September 8th, 2019 at 10:20 AM ^
I like Metellus. He is solid on defense. I really appreciate Adian Hutchinson and his TFL yesterday which was the important beginning of the end. I like that we got a win yesterday when I know how a loss would make me feel even worse. Zach Charbonnet of course.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
I'm ok with the defense. I think when they go against traditional drop back passers/offenses the pass rush will be good, maybe really good and disruptive. We haven't been able to totally see it yet because MTSU had a good quick release scheme and Army is Army.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
That fake punt with Dax Hill was awesome.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:30 AM ^
Thank you. Almost forgot about that.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:26 AM ^
I like Charbonnet. I like Giles Jackson on returns and think he should play some wr. I like Tarik Black being back
The season has been disappointing so far so i haven't seen much I like yet
September 8th, 2019 at 10:42 AM ^
I like Jackson on returns too, but I think the coaches really need to think about the strategery of returning kicks. Returning a kick to the 30 yd line from the 5 looks really impressive and there's a chance that he will break one eventually, but the chances of a turnover, bad blindside block or just not making it to the 25 are way higher. I think any time the ball is inside the 10yd line he needs to fair catch.
btw, that blind side blocking penalty is going to end up changing the course of a lot of games this year. It is almost impossible to avoid in many circumstances and is very much a judgement call.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:26 AM ^
Tempo on offense is improved. It’s far from perfect but it is significantly better and good enough to be hopeful it can continue to improve.
September 8th, 2019 at 10:27 AM ^
24-21 in 2OT.
Army is a damn good team and if the AP Poll ranked to 30 they would be in as they're just outside the Top-25. This wouldn't have been a season-killing loss if it had happened. Would've sucked major ass though.
Defense won the game. They were screwed over by the offense so many times whether it be due to short fields or 3 & outs. Those 11 on offense should take the 11 on defense out for dinner on the bye week because they saved their asses.
Too bad the coaching took a bye week a week early. The decision making by the coaches alone almost cost us the game. Why in God's name are you not kicking a FG on 4th down in FG range with not much time left? We would've won in regulation with that 3 points. And the playcalling is giving all of the doubters of #SpeedInSpace all the ammo they need.
We need Runyan back ASAP.
