Stunning turnaround for AA Huron Football
After winning like 1 game in 5 years, AA Huron put a beatdown on Ecorse High School last year 62-14.
I took my son to the game and Huron looked fast, strong and organized (they are still on the small side) against an Ecorse team that was pretty good last year. We’ll see if this was a fluke or if was the beginning of a massive turnaround - let’s hope for the latter. It would be great to have another good prep program in the AA area.

New coach?
August 31st, 2019 at 10:52 AM ^
Yes, new staff. The head coach is Antaiwn Mack.

How do you even pronounce Antaiwn
August 31st, 2019 at 11:02 AM ^
I believe it is pronounced the same as “Anton” but not sure.

I should add that Chris Evans is on the Huron staff as he waits out this season and hopefully returns to Michigan next year. I bet this guy turns into a great coach.
Also, Josh Williams is on the staff. Josh might well be the most underrated Michigan player in recent history. This guy was a beast on the 1997 National Championship team before dominating on the DL in 98-99 before getting drafted by the Colts.

Dislike.
Should be working for Pioneer instead.

No, what he should have done is take on the challenge of starting a football program at Community!
Go Fighting Rainbow Zebras!

Must downvote this on general principle, but please know that it's given with the utmost courtesy and esteem.

No, no, no way, River Rats Forever, Go Rats!!!

When Paul Verska was our coach in the late 90s and into the 2000s, we were practically a powerhouse. After he left we became terrible, mostly because of terrible coaching hires. It's nice to see things back on track.

Whose house? Green house!

Thats my uncle. Everything he coaches turns around.
Did you know Nick?
August 31st, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
Verska doesn’t get enough of respect for turning De La Salle into what they are. Before he got there they were a consistent 4th in the (then) central division. Now they are the standard

He was a very good coach - I knew him a bit earlier when he was at Fr. Gabriel Richard.

Wonder if I knew you back then, Evenyoubrutus. I think it was 1998 we went to the state championship.
August 31st, 2019 at 3:15 PM ^
Yeah it was 1998, I took my brother ( who was a junior at the time) to the Silverstone to see us in the championship game.
August 31st, 2019 at 3:40 PM ^
I graduated in 2004 so no, but you probably knew my older brother, lawyerbrutus. He was on that team. Though he played as many snaps as I did, lol

Fellow class of 2004 here, just wanted to say hi.

Whatsup. I'm sorry this comment is what encouraged you to join the board. Lol.

No worries, I'd been thinking about it for a while.

Took a semester of gym with him to fulfill my phys Ed requirement senior year, which was basically low-key spring training ( I was the only non football player in the class)
Super nice dude, and thank heavens Mike Rosenberg wasn't lurking on campus to bust him out for noncountable practice hours.

I had the sports med guy for PE, Sorgi I think? but they combined their classes all the time. Verska was hilarious. I got beat bad in a basketball scrimmage and he had some choice words for me that reminded me of Full Metal Jacket. Haha
August 31st, 2019 at 6:58 PM ^
Can confirm every Verska practice was like opening scene of Full Metal Jacket (graduated '95, played for Verska three years.)
Honestly, I never would have believed that people like that most excellent drill sergeant Full Metal Jacket existed--had it not been for Coach Verska.
After Verska, I believe.

Coach Flip could've kept it going, but ducked after 1 year. I get the reasons, but that was big let down/shock when he left that took away all the culture and momentum we had.
August 31st, 2019 at 6:53 PM ^
Please do tell the story about coach Flip: I knew him as an assistant (while playing for Verska), but since living out of town never heard coach Flip took the reins, nor that he left on the quick.

Go Rats! They were good when I was there around the turn of the century and made the state final (although they lost). Didn’t realize they’d been so bad as of late but I had heard rumblings Skyline had syphoned off a lot of talent from both AAH and AAP in general across all sports.

That was an amazing year. My brother and I went to every game. Such a fun time to be a student.

Very early but adrian martinez looks pretty shaky. I like Martinez but not sold on him yet

GO RATS! Proud Huron alum who watched some pretty mediocre to bad football teams. Maybe they can finally beat Pioneer this year...
August 31st, 2019 at 6:51 PM ^
Hey now, we beat Pioneer on the regular while I played there (90's). Not sure what happened since (been living cross country).

Love the River Rats! One of the best high school nicknames ever.
