OT: Offseason in review
As we wind down the offseason and head into the 2019 college football season, what is the biggest event that has occurred these past 8 months that we've discussed and why? For example:
-Tiger winning the Masters
-St. Louis Blues winning the Cup
-JB leaving for CLE
-Hiring of Gattis
-Hiring of Howard
-GoT Season 8 being awful
-The rise of media streaming
and more...
For me, it was the introduction of Gattis and how the offense will evolve and Tiger winning a major. Frankly, I though Harbaugh was too engrained in his ways, and that Tiger's back and knee wouldn't allow for him to perform at a high level.

uh...where is the Michigan's baseball team making the Finals of the CWS?? That was HUGE!
August 20th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
Way to go baseballers!! Agree with you CC.
August 20th, 2019 at 3:57 PM ^
Yeah, I was going to say this myself. Pound for pound, it was the coverage of Michigan baseball up to and including the Finals. Something that historically gets a passing mention around here became THE story on the board for several weeks. That says a lot really.

Second to Michigan Baseball's run, I'd say NBA free agency
August 20th, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
NBA offseason was ridiculous. Durant, Kyrie, Kawhi, Kemba, D'Angelo Russell, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul and Anthony Davis all changed teams. And there was obviously a lot more than that.
The amount of star power moved and money spent was insane. Not to mention the league looks to have some parity for the first time in a while.

Keith Jackson's passing was pretty big
August 20th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Wait, what?!
August 20th, 2019 at 1:56 PM ^
Whoa Nelly, that's stunning news
August 20th, 2019 at 2:15 PM ^
RIP Keith Jackson.....

I got into witchcraft and that was pretty rewarding

How's the hex on your BPONE affliction going? Dead chickens or a voodoo doll?
August 20th, 2019 at 3:44 PM ^
I heard that some witches make outstanding gravy! And never from a can...always home made.
August 20th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Well, it was another disappointing offseason where neither Tyra Banks or Kate Beckinsale had a threesome with my wife and me. At this point, I'm beginning to think they don't even really want it to happen!
August 20th, 2019 at 2:04 PM ^
Well if it makes you feel any better Kate was hooking up with this dude until recently so I can safely say it probably wasnt because of either you or your wife's looks that it didnt happen.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:15 PM ^
or...... those are pretty long shorts
August 20th, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
He could use a trip (or three) to Camp Sanderson.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Ha! I always forget about them being together for a stint.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
That dude had a thing with Ariana Grande. Let that sink in. If he can climb mountains, so can we.
August 20th, 2019 at 6:44 PM ^
Pete Davidson pulling both those ladies is almost as mind blowing as Kevin Federline getting Britney Spears. I say almost because Federline still gets monthly payments in his doing so!

If orange is the new black is this guy proof douchebag is the new stud
August 20th, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
I keep telling him, "never take a nap on the couch when the kids are playing with their sharpies!"
August 20th, 2019 at 6:52 PM ^
Kate keeps calling me so probably too busy to hook up with you
August 20th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
...rise of media streaming? What is this, 2012?
August 20th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
I think the biggest event of the last 8 months was a mountain bike specific park opening in my area. Much more important in life than pretty much everything else listed above.
August 20th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Beilein for Michigan.
Tiger for OT.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
Everything is fighting for 2nd place. Not sure how any event tops Beilein leaving for the NBA.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
Beilein was a big deal in our house. I'm still not allowed to talk about it. Apparently the wife is still grieving.
August 20th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Tiger winning The Masters was one of the best sporting events I have ever seen. I have never felt the feelings I felt watching him those last 6 or so holes in any other sporting event. My father and my girlfriends dad said the same thing, it was one of the greatest sporting moments ever.
August 20th, 2019 at 1:56 PM ^
My MGoDaughter enrolling at Iowa was pretty big...she's a freshman pre-med. I'm proud and sad all in one.
August 20th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
I'd say JB leaving for Cleveland and the hiring of Juwan Howard should be counted as one as "Basketball Coaching Change", and would be my #1 by an incredible margin.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:00 PM ^
My butcher finally started carrying picanha on the regular and a couple weeks ago I smoked a tri-tip that was pretty much life changing, so yeah. That's pretty much the short list for me.

You're eating that rump cover-culotte?
August 20th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
Sink my teeth into that rump cap every chance I get
August 20th, 2019 at 2:04 PM ^
#firebakich and BPONE for everything forever.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:05 PM ^
Self-loathing? User name checks out.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:04 PM ^
Certainly not the biggest, but losing Chris Evans was still really big from a football perspective. At that moment we all assumed the running back position was fuuuuuuuuuucked
August 20th, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
I'm going back and forth between:
Mineral King being Shea or not
Fire Bakich
Will Yak stay or will Yak go
But i'm going to go with Tommy Henry and the Wolverines Baseball squad going to Omaha!
On a personal note, purchasing a chunk of Northern Michigan.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:35 PM ^
Meh. I’m saving up for Greenland.
August 20th, 2019 at 2:25 PM ^
USA Women's World Cup Victory

GoT8 may have been disappointing for some people but not for me.
Could it have been better? Yes, but that's a weak standard that perhaps always applies to everything -- though I can acknowledge I risk glossing over the nature of "extent."
Still I'd rather squeeze all the value I can from this philosophy: not simply to "be ok with what one does have and not pine for what you don't" but to shoot for the fences and "love what one does have and don't bother with conceptions of what you don't."
August 20th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
I never got on the GoT train. I asked family and friends about it. Most common response: " Dragons and tits, pretty much."
August 20th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
pretty good summary. I am disappointed in DB Weiss and David Benioff showrunning. I haven't been disappointed in a show ending this much since Dexter.
August 20th, 2019 at 5:06 PM ^
It was rushed, illogical, and poorly written fan fiction. Beautifully shot though.
August 20th, 2019 at 10:06 PM ^
GoT was an amazing global phenomenon. It took amazing skill (or luck) to completely fuck over that reputation in only a few minutes over one hour.
The season had some great moments, but none of them were in the last episode.
August 20th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
- Avengers Endgame was freaking awesome
- MIB aka (Asgardians in Black) International sucked
- X-Men Phoenix sucked - thank god they are Disney's problem now
- Lion King was meh, too sterile
- Spiderman Far From Home was alright and good transition to phase 4 of the MCU
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was really good
- GoT final season sucked balls
- Michigan baseball's run was awesome!
- Beilein leaving sucked donkey balls, but Juwan Howard is here!
August 20th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
In the Michigan universe, Beilein leaving and the subsequent coaching search resulting in Howard is the biggest off season event by a quite a bit.
August 20th, 2019 at 4:36 PM ^
i thought it was basketball season
August 20th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
The biggest thing now is that all of Detroit pro teams suck! The pistons barely made the playoffs, so it could have been worse for our pro teams. The Tigers are years from being any good. The Lions will never be good. There's hope that the wings may start rebuilding enough to make the playoffs in the next year or two. May be the Pistons will keep improving. But overall pro sports in Detroit are quite bleak. Michigan sports is the only thing to get excited about around these parts. Michigan basketball, baseball and football all have great teams.

JB to the NBA was heart breaking.
——————————
Tiger winning.
Michigan almost pulling off the World Series.
and
The coaching hires.
Lots of positives this year.
Hopefully Michigan adds a Big Ten Title!!!!!
