RJ Moten, 4* safety talks recruitment (247 podcast today)
R.J. Moten was on the 247 B1G recruiting podcast today. He said that he has already made up his mind on which school he is going to. He said that he will be announcing his commitment next week. He said that the school he will commit to is allowing him will allow him to play both football and baseball. He said Michigan’s baseball success has a significant impact on his decision. He has 12 crystal balls, all of them for the good guys. He is going to the barbecue at the big house this weekend. He knows what his major is going to be (criminal justice). I may not be Sherlock Holmes, but I am feeling highly suspicious that we will be getting a commitment from Moten within 1 week...
As many of you know, the updated 247 recruiting rankings on Monday bumped him up 84 spots to #93 nationally. On the composite, he is ranked # 287, solidly in four-star range. He is a safety/athlete prospect with a laser-timed 4.62 40, and a >40” vertical leap. He is considered a high round MLB draft prospect at centerfield. His commitment would likely move Michigan up to number six in the team recruiting rankings.
Criminal Justice is not a major at the University of Michigan -- commence panic!!
Meh - sociology with a sub-major or minor
https://lsa.umich.edu/lsa/academics/majors-minors.html#law_justics_and_social_change-sub
Yes I know -- I was one of those misguided souls who pursued a minor in criminology
it might be Rutgers: https://nbcjm.rutgers.edu/academics/program-info/our-major - in which case I hope he commits and then flips to us given the ex-Rutgers running back commitment wizadry.
?
Of course there isn’t...
well, some other school is getting a great player next week /s ?
Well engineering isn’t a real major at Alabama and that hasn’t stopped anyone.
Panic to your little hearts content...according to the interview he is clearly coming to Michigan. He will announce this weekend and likely Makari will too. Additionally, I would not be surprised to see Green-Warren commit...and likely several of the 2021 kids. It should be an exciting several days. What I am uneasy about is Theo Johnson...he would so fit into what Gattis is bringing.
Green Warren isn't even visiting anymore.
Reports that the cancellation was due to family vacation plans and he'll take an OV for a game this fall.
Sounds like Michigan is running in 3rd or 4th for Theo Johnson as of now...Michigan is going to have to show more production out of the TE position under Gattis if they want to have a shot with Johnson.
Get Sherlock Holmes
I don't think he holds a commitable offer, Holmes.
Check with Watson!
He graduated.
Didn’t Watson get some kind of doctorate ?
Potential to add Moten, Theo Johnson, Paige, Gentry, and any of the other 4 star guys to this class will continue to see the 2020 class solidify its top-10 position. We're not done yet...
Now that Partridge is the safeties coach recruiting at that position is much better. Corner recruiting has been uninspiring the last few years and I really hope they can add some good ones there this cycle.
Very good.
You are in luck...Green-Warren is, indeed, "very good". He is a very good Cali replacement for Cali David Long.
Of the remaining 2020 CBs, sounds as if Darion Green-Warren and/or Henry Gray are the most likely to commit, mostly because they've either been on campus (Gray) or will be (DG-W, for the BBQ). Green-Warren has also put U-M in his top 6. All others I've heard mentioned sound like long shots: Dontae Manning (Oklahoma decommit that we are in contact with), Ryan Watts (Oklahoma commit/flip target), Jahquez Robinson (Alabama commit/flip target). For the star gazers out there, all of these guys are four-star prospects ranging from #100-300 overall.
Green-Warren isn't visiting for the BBQ anymore.
Ouch, did that news break today? Well, they've got to keep pushing to get him on campus (for ND or OSU hopefully) –– he's been talking up Michigan for a long time. Nice to get those California boys up in the summer though.
Good news, sort of –– family vacation got in the way. Will be here for a game (official visit) in the fall.
I like that he is dropping such strong hints before his announcement. Not so much because he's going to commit to Michigan, but because he's not trying to drum up any phony suspense. There's no concern about reporters spoiling his moment either.
Agreed - shows a confidence and conviction that stands out for a young man his age.
Interesting nugget from Wiltfong for those who don't want to listen: Moten was a 5 star in his personal rankings and he could see the rest of the 247 staff agreeing to put him there at the end of the cycle.
You just gave a potential commit a complement?
He meant out of ten stars . . .
Interesting too that as recently as mid-April, Moten was a lowly 3-star ranked in the 800s. Michigan offered him on April 30, got him on campus in June, and appears to be closing in late July. Moten rose fast, and Michigan moved fast.
The baseball angle appears to have helped with Moten too (a la Joey Velasquez in '19). Hopefully the two-sport approach will also help with '21 prospect Tywone Malone, high 4-star DT and #1 player in NJ. One publication ranks him as the #1 first baseman in the US, and not just in terms of size (6' 4", 290). MGoFish has him on the BBQ visitor list, in Ann Arbor tomorrow.
For a second I read this as Moten was a five-star in his (Moten’s) personal rankings and I was like, well, at least he’s confident.
He's a great RB too.
Michigan seems set at Safety. I am wondering if he will be given a try at RB.
He's got thick legs. So he might be good at LB too.
Webb said they’re recruiting Paige, Moten, and got Morant with the intention that they’d all be on the field in the backfield at the same time. Sounds like maybe some viper potential or looking for guys that can play the hybrid DB role
Excited to have him abroad, minus the slight concern he doesn't matriculate and decides to go the MLB route.
