Open Thread - Sunday Boilermaker Fans
Purdue is not the team they have been over the past couple of years. But the Boilermakers can be tough at home. Was at Mackey Arena once - fun place to watch a game, because even in the seats higher up in the stands, seems like you are close to the floor. But it feels like all 14,000 screaming fans are right on top of you - very tough for the visiting team. ESPN described it once as a "concrete dungeon of noise".
Sparty has been on a roll - hoping that ends today. Would be very sweet to see them lose at Purdue the same weekend we won at IU, and have both of us with one BIG road loss.
Light em up, Carsen Edwards!

Doesn't Purdue still have a dunkin Dutchman? Turn him loose on the Spartan thugs!
January 27th, 2019 at 12:23 PM ^
Hopefully no injuries - besides rubbing some ‘tussin on an injury, they don’t have much medicine for opposing teams.
January 27th, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
Bruised, banged up, sore and limping Spartys are not a huge concern of mine. In fact, I prefer them that way.
The BIG road games usually take their toll - hopefully, Sparty pays up today.
January 27th, 2019 at 7:41 PM ^
You were correct. They got blasted
January 27th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
Edwards had possibly his worst game from the field against MSU last time they met. Hopefully that changes today
January 27th, 2019 at 1:07 PM ^
I'll be one today
January 27th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
State has an interesting issue when Langford returns. It is hard to argue they should just throw him back in the starting lineup when they have been just annihilating everybody without him.
MSU looks legit this year. They looked like pretenders all year last year but this outfit looks formidable.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Sparty always looks like bigger better team with the better pedigree, except this year. They are not athletic monsters everywhere. I think their bigger better guys get lazy, such as last year, where as the not so gifted guys work hard all the time because they have always had to.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
They had ill fitting pieces last year, and zero chemistry. A pretty ugly watch, frankly.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
Boiler up!
January 27th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
Guarding Winston full court has bothered State so far.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
3 minutes in and Kellog already talking sparty injury troubles.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:17 PM ^
May see some weird guys?
January 27th, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Injuries in basketball are pretty big though. Of you watch Kansas without Azubuike, they're just a different team. Like if we lost Teske or Simp, we'd be fucked.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
Agreed, I'm still just sour about the Lavert years, no one ever seemed to mention his injuries.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
That's because Beilein isn't a whiner.
January 27th, 2019 at 2:22 PM ^
I agree with your point, but Kellogg is a great analyst and an even better person. If somebody from Michigan was hurt, I think Kellogg would mention it.
January 27th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
I remember Izzo bringing up the LeVert injury in a random interview that had nothing to do with Michigan. He said it was an overuse injury.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Nice start. Good strategy picking up Winston so early to slow down their attack and force them to run actual sets. They are so good at getting down quickly and getting an easy basket within 5 seconds. I half assume we will try to employ something similar, at least strategically
January 27th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
He won't get away with that against X.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Very happy we don't have another scheduled game with Purdue. We definitely played them at their worst and going to Mackey with that Williams kid getting going doesn't sound too fun. Still think we would win, but too much stress
January 27th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
THAT'S HOW YOU USE THE 7 FOOTER!!!
January 27th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
Ugh Purdue...track meet is not your favor
January 27th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
Boiler ball but that shit there, Tillman shoving the rebounder from behind but not getting whistel, is SUCH SHIT. They get away with it all the god damn time yet we see our guys get whistles for taps and at times nothing.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
Winston stiff arms everybody.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
McPoyle got straight yammed on. Damn.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
I am very much enjoying this game so far.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
Agreed, very good so far. Hopefully Purdue can get a few more buckets before the half.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
Wheeler is not a good defender at all, but nice stroke. Eastern has been really good on Winston when he's been in.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
purdue beat ohio in football.
purdue up early on sparty in hoops.
may have to move them up the rankings of 'big 10 teams i'd root for from time to time'. finish strong boilermakers.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
Edwards is off but Purdue is playing great team ball today. Very Michigan like
January 27th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
Painter appears to have discovered the key to defending Michigan State. Thanks Coach!
January 27th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
This looks like late season Sparty where they just jack 3s constantly. Very soft team now
January 27th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
Yes Clark good officiating calling an obvious jumpball
January 27th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Edwards can be frustrsting...you're good but also 5'8, physics dude, you need to relax at times and not force it
January 27th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
Entertaining game so far. Glad we had an one-off with Purdue this year and got the W.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
Good start so far. Purdue has been a little lucky though with some of the misses.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Super fun game, so far. Seeing how vulnerable Sparty looks is a decided bonus.
I think we're more athletic than they are, others agree?
January 27th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
Sparty is more blue collar. Because basketball is very much akin to workers v managers on an assembly line.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Winston pushes off with that forearm every drive. Can't believe he doesn't get more fouls. Davison from Wiscy would be in third row.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
Simpson is too quick and too strong for him. Winston will have to get his points off of rotations and spot up 3s
January 27th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
MSU has had a long week with a short roster. No legs today. Still, 2-1 for them this week is probably something they'd have gladly signed up for. Nevertheless, if this holds up, even if it doesn't indicate the Spartans' potential, it affects the standings, so good for Michigan.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
So if this keeps up and Sparty loses i have one question.
How many spots will they move up in the rankings? My guess is a quality loss like this one will push them up to 2 or 3.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
Haarms is channeling his inner Teske on defense. Not as impactful on offense though
January 27th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
Go Purdue
January 27th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
This...pleases me.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
Dominant first half by Purdue! MSU looks - vulnerable.... A very sparty look
January 27th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
This is the best I've ever seen Haarms play, I think.
January 27th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Easily. Dude had been non existent for them for most of the season
January 27th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
State’s fewest points in the first half since 2004.
