Cool. What is GERG up to?
January 11th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
DC for North Carolina under Mack Brown.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
I don't believe that was an actual thing if I recall correctly
January 11th, 2019 at 12:23 PM ^
It was a thing then became not a thing once people realized what was about to happen.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
It’s sad I believed that for a second.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:12 PM ^
Both parts of that were momentarily real, now just the still very odd MB to NC is left...
January 11th, 2019 at 12:07 PM ^
Good place for this job jumping Sparty asswipe. Working for his new head coach, who like him, also reneged after accepting the Temple offer. They deserve each other.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
Oh stop. Like you wouldn’t leave Temple for the U. Plus that was Diaz’s dream job.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:22 PM ^
That is a point. But whatever happened to making a commitment and standing by it - at least for a year or two, for Christ sakes.
And Miami fucked this up bad - are you telling me Mark Richt hasn't been thinking of retiring for a while and it just came out of nowhere? Might have been a good idea to mention you were thinking of retirement when Diaz got the offer from Temple. For all we know - Diaz might have accepted the job knowing Richt may retire, and knowing he was potentially going to renege. This makes more sense to me than it just coming "out of the blue".
Temple made the offer in good faith, trusted him to meet his commitment - and got hosed.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:30 PM ^
You obviously haven't been following the board lately. Nowadays your only priority should be making more money and climbing the corporate ladder. Anything else is for bleeding heart pansies and needs to GTFO. You need to be prepared to go to work for the person who insulted your mother if it represents career advancement. Period.
Even if you're already old, rich, and have already held the position you're being promoted to.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
Following the board?
Hell, that's the entirety of the American moral code these days. Get money. More money. All the money! It doesn't matter how.
-spits on the floor
January 11th, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
You got to do what's right for your family. Sell out your school. Sell out your country. Hell, sell out your family. You gotta do you.
January 12th, 2019 at 10:44 AM ^
Bro we got mouths to feed
January 11th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
It's the American capitalistic dream everyone keeps talking about lol
January 11th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Mo money, mo money!
January 11th, 2019 at 10:06 PM ^
Mo money mo problems
January 11th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
Uhhh, what? The board's position would be more accurately articulated as "It's a business, so don't judge someone for treating it as such."
No one is saying a coach is an idiot for being loyal, they're saying not to expect a coach not to take a better opportunity just because you don't want them to.
January 11th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
Yes, this totally originated from this board and not from the entire history of capitalism...
January 11th, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
Corporate loyalty is horse shit, do you think if he was performing poorly that Temple would keep him for the full length of his contract with them? Damn sure they wouldn't, so he shouldn't be expected to do the same.
Also, Miami is a much better job than Temple and any reasonable person would do the same in their employment case, just better be prepared to pay any training costs incurred or deal with burned bridges.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
Temple got paid $6.5M in buyouts. I think they'll be fine.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:38 PM ^
Yes, people seem to forgot about that and go off on the loyalty / commitment angle.
Temple made enough money from Miami to pay their new head coach for 2 years.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:59 PM ^
Dude-- where is the cool gif -- you are being too serious.....lol
January 11th, 2019 at 12:50 PM ^
As if you wouldn’t leave a job you had just accepted if your dream job suddenly became available and offered you a position....
January 11th, 2019 at 1:08 PM ^
Eh, this worked out a lot better for Temple than if he only stayed for a year. Schools are no better than coaches at standing by any commitments they make to each other. For the most part, they follow what's in the written contracts and that's about it.
January 11th, 2019 at 2:24 PM ^
Somehow you didn't seem all that angry that we hired a coach who had apparently agreed to go elsewhere just yesterday. Wonder what that's all about...
January 11th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
"But whatever happened to making a commitment and standing by it - at least for a year or two," It never existed. You're crazy if you think this wasn't happening 10, 20, 30, 50 years ago and not just in football. People have always done what is best for themselves. Period.
January 11th, 2019 at 4:57 PM ^
Richt is the bad guy there. He hired his moron son for a job he was completely unqualified for, then abruptly quit his job at Miami after Diaz had already left when Miami insisted he hire a real QB coach instead of his nepotism hire.
It's just a bad situation. Miami put a lot of faith in an accomplished coach who was an alumnus, and he kinda shit all over that faith by hiring his unqualified son and then refusing to fix the error once it became clear that situation wasn't tenable.
The only thing we have a good feeling Diaz knew is that Richt was going to stick with his dysfunctional offensive coaching situation, hence why he got out of dodge before everyone got fired over it. Everyone around that situation thought Miami wouldn't press the issue because Richt had done so much fundraising for new facilities.
It sucks for Temple but everyone at a G5 knows the score. They're not equal with P5 in terms of money and ability to compete. It's honestly less disruptive to leave after 2 weeks before you've really started doing anything than leaving after one year.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
I would leave Philly for Miami. My standards are low, so in my warped, warm-weather driven mind: FIU > Temple
January 11th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
That's probably not really warped. Seems like most people feel that way. I think I'm the warped one. Temple >>>> FIU because weather. The hell with all that heat in the summer.
For the money Miami was probably offering over Temple, I could probably deal with it for a few years. All else being equal, though, I'm going north.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:27 PM ^
Didn’t our new OC just back out of Maryland?
January 11th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Take off the homer glasses. Anyone in that position would make whatever decision they thought was best for their career and their family.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
No disrespect to the OP, but who cares?
January 11th, 2019 at 12:10 PM ^
A lot of people were assuming that Saban chose to keep Enos over Gattis. It doesn't look like that was true.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:12 PM ^
I read an article yesterday that Enos was the new OC at Bama. Was that wrong?
January 11th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
No, it was correct. He's working for both schools now.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
I think the question they're asking is: was Enos named the OC at Alabama before taking the Miami job?
January 11th, 2019 at 1:23 PM ^
I think that was the spin that uninformed Bama and Sparty slappies were pulling out of their asses. Bama to soften the sting of losing a coach, Sparty to soften the sting of Harbaugh actually bringing top notch talent to AA as opposed to Dantonio's strategy of pulling coaching assignments out of a hat and handing them out to the same old losers.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
Uninformed Sparty Slappie = The rare triple redundancy...
January 11th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
I get it. I just despise Enos for 'disrespekting' us in the manner he did. And ya, the character that he and Diaz displayed.....I would never want my boys to play for them!
January 11th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
Saban needs to get his house in order. What a shit show he has going on.
I am surprised Mork didn’t (maybe he did) go after Enos.
Seems like an insert joke moment.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
MD would have to fire one of his crew to bring on Enos. That would never happen. And Enos may have gotten a check from Michigan which would make him persona non grata in EL forever.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
You did at least somewhat considering you clicked the link for this thread.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
Haa! WTF is going on in Tuscaloosa? I guess modern football has passed Saban by. Perhaps the Bama faithful are yelling UNACCEPTABLE!!!! ??
And it makes me want to go listen to see what Pete Finebaum is saying... Almost. Not really.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
I heard an Alabama fan emailed Saban his concerns. I would expect that this gets fixed shortly.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:15 PM ^
Did he send Saban an article about Michigan hiring Josh Gattis and say "Please read"?
January 11th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
"What we need is more NFL-level complexity in the passing game. Here's an article. There's this guy named Pep Hamilton..."
January 11th, 2019 at 4:02 PM ^
Yes this is what I told my friend to send Nick. Let’s see if it pays off Cotton.
January 11th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
They seem to think Saban may have a new OC up his sleeve and Enos wasn't ascending anyway so he left.
https://www.rollbamaroll.com/2019/1/11/18178726/miami-hires-dan-enos-as…
January 11th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
This better not mean Gattis is staying at Bama. Dan Enos would fuck us twice within 12 months.
January 11th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
I am a little concerned here actually. Can totally see Saban going right back after Gattis to be his OC. Kind of like the Daxton Hill of coaching situation.
Can also see Saban just hiring some stud, hard to believe there won't be a long line of guys wanting the OC job at Bama.
