Crystal Balz for Offensive Tackle Dawand Jones
Giant (6'8" 360 lb,) tackle from Indiana (same school, as Chris Evans) gets a Michigan CB from Wiltfong and one other.
Late developing player who is apparently on the rise.

If Coach Warinner wants him, he's more than welcome in my book. BIG pickup!

More balz are always good.

Dawand ‘Jupiter’ Jones

The studious Bob Andrews put in a crystal ball but I would have thought athletic Pete Crenshaw would pick up an offer before Jupe.

Loved those books.

He is a Jr this year, so 2020 prospect.
November 18th, 2018 at 7:20 AM ^
247 says class of '19?
November 18th, 2018 at 7:35 AM ^
Verbalcommits.com listed him as 2020, but everywhere else seems to say 2019. So I'd guess he is really 2019. I can't believe the internet was wrong.
November 18th, 2018 at 9:44 AM ^
I don't thinks it's that the interwebs is wrong, but just that it has covered all the bases.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:39 AM ^
His own Hudl account says he's a 2019 (LINK).

Magnus. You think him of Keegan?
November 18th, 2018 at 7:45 AM ^
Struggling to understand the numbers. Guess the December signing period will clear a bit of that up.
November 18th, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
We struggle to understand the numbers every year. Every year, we also rediscover the fact that the staff knows more about this than we do.

Hilarious. Made me laugh.

His size and strength are obvious from the moment his highlights begin. Not that we’re looking for it, but this is probably not a day 1 contributor. Needs a lot of work with his feet. The majority of the clips are Dawand down blocking. If you watch his feet he doesn’t step with his left consistently-false steps and steps in place. Just after the 2 minute mark he pulls left and he gets moving pretty good. A pretty nice prospect to try and work with.
It will be interesting to see what his recruitment looks like.
November 18th, 2018 at 7:49 AM ^
Anyone know if he has the agility to play LT at Michigan?
The size alone would make it hard for DEs to get around him...unless he just has no ability to move on his feet.
Is he a later riser? Why is he not more highly rated and/or unrated? I am not a starz only person...but with his size there has to be some reason for being under the radar.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:23 AM ^
According to this week’s recruiting roundup he’s only been playing organized football for two years. This means he’s both raw and not very scouted, which both explain rankings that might not coincide with a 6’8 OT who’s getting major football offers.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:28 AM ^
He's got D1 basketball offers from some MAC level schools, so he must move fairly well.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:51 AM ^
"Is he tall enough to play center?"

November 18th, 2018 at 8:41 AM ^
IMO, he has the natural agility to play LT...but he needs to get in a little better shape.
November 18th, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
That is a much better problem to have than the other way around.
November 18th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
Have you noticed all our players cramping? I'm not real high on herbert right now.
November 18th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
Yep, definitely needs to develop some lower body strength and mass and take some of the bad weight off the top half. He's relatively light on his feet but has terrible footwork and hand usage. He's an obvious redshirt and probably a 3 year development project before he could contribute.
November 18th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
Lets be clear, though. This guy looks like he has a ton of potential and the simple fact that Warinner wants him should be good enough for us. I'd love to have this guy on board and hope he commits.
And to the below poster, lets not trash guys we are trying to recruit, especially if the look like quality recruits?
November 18th, 2018 at 7:55 AM ^
no wonder he’s 360 pounds, he really likes pancakes.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:09 AM ^
(A pun-though you likely do not know...Ben Davis' mascot/nickname is "Giants".)
Here, it's a curious offer/interest with Keegan having just popped in during the week??? Evidently when Warriner checked this "little guy" out he was pleased. Some have criticized him for being "heavy-footed" but, I tell you what, for a 6'8" 360# 17 year old he moves pretty damn well...and I love his lower body base-he's a road-grader. Trente Jones is turning into a beast and looks to be a legitimate LT candidate. This kid would surely be one helluva RT prospect. Put Filiaga at LG and Stueber at RG with Rumler at center and Mayfield and Hayes...as well as others developing...you may have an All -American OL. This is how you control a game...this is what Coach Harbaugh is looking to build.
November 18th, 2018 at 9:46 AM ^
100 this post. I think the weakest link still is Oline. Though much improved and playing the best we have seen in years. It still is a year or two away. I think every other position group is solid starting next year. Michigan had shallow depth at QB, Oline and RB. Next year looks to be first year Harbaugh will have strength, depth, experience and elite talent in almost every position group. Another year in strength and conditioning and Warinner can't be under estimated as well.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:11 AM ^
Yeah I really can’t figure out how the numbers are going to work this year unless the coaches feel we have about 9 guys entering the draft. In that event..uggh.
November 18th, 2018 at 9:13 AM ^
Not being snarky towards this poster or post, but I don't understand the consternation about numbers. Obviously the coaching staff is dialed in to all those that may be leaving early, transferring, givin a firm handshake, medical, and so on. Of course speculating is part of being a fan. This is how recruiting goes at an elite level. The recruit can decommit and go elsewhere (Gray) so why can't a team do same? The only thing that I think Michigan and staff owe a recruit is honesty and being up front. I have every confidence that if any recruit has a chance of being recruited over, they know it.
November 18th, 2018 at 8:23 AM ^
Have to wonder about the remaining guys on the board and the numbers to get there. Do they just have guys like Keegan, Harrison, Crouch and Karlaftis as 50/50 at this point and if they somehow land all or most of them then there some unpleasant work to be done? I don’t think we’ll get all 4 of those guys. 2 seems more likely but 3 or 4 is also possible. it seems like the other guys on the board are takes for positional need reasons.

Looking at his offer list, there's a funny anecdote.
USC - Tim Drevno
FSU - Greg Frey
Michigan connection all the way ;o)

They say he has his own gravitational field.
November 18th, 2018 at 9:38 AM ^
I get the point, but doesn't anything thing that has any mass (for example a feather) have its own gravitational field?
November 18th, 2018 at 10:48 AM ^
They say he has a gravitional field stronger than a feather!
November 18th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
What has a stronger gravitational field: a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers?
November 18th, 2018 at 9:57 AM ^
I trust the staff with the recruiting! Just confused on all the spots left lol. I’m hearing Brohm is out at Purdue to go back to his alamater. I want George and Zac both!
November 18th, 2018 at 9:58 AM ^
It is, in fact, possible to be too big to play OT. A guy who is 360 in high school is almost certain to have a lot of bad weight, and will probably have a lot of trouble controlling his weight all through college. Would rather see a guy come in around 275-300 at most, and let the S&C coach bring him up to ideal playing weight in a good way.

Good god 6’8 360?
