Another Celebrity Michigan Fan: Colin Jost of SNL
We can add Colin Jost of "Saturday Night Live" to the list of celebrity Michigan fans. He grew up on Staten Island and went to Harvard, but he told the Free Press that he was a huge U-M fan growing up: "I think it was a combination of when the Fab Five was there playing basketball and also their football team was great at that time, a Desmond Howard era."
Welcome aboard. How about a "Go Blue" on the next Weekend Update, Colin!
Nice to know. I believe Gilda Radner is the only Michigan alum to be an SNL cast member, while Tom Brady, Madonna and Michael Phelps are the only Michigan alums (yes, Madonna and Phelps are alums) to be guest hosts. Please let me know if I've missed anyone.

Isn't SNL that show that went off the air in the '90s?
October 25th, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
No, they wrapped it up after Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Bill Hader left.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:35 PM ^
I haven’t watched it since Will left.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
Will Forte was really good, yeah

I.... am .... Tim Calhoun
I still love that guy.

I miss MadTV - I always thought it was funnier.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
I'm really disappointed that more millennials haven't shown up to downvote my comment yet.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
I'm not a millennial but I down voted you. I'm doing my part. By and large, SNL is not particularly funny. Occasionally, it will strike the right note and be hilarious. The Matt Damon parody of the Kavanaugh hearings was laugh out loud funny. The show is not always bad, just really hit or miss.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
FWIW, I upvoted this
October 25th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
SNL rocks. I'm a huge Beck Bennett fan.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
SNL has always been a show of about 15 minutes of good sketches and then a bunch of filler on the back end.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
This. People get so nostalgic for an era that never existed because they watched a bunch of "Best of" collections. SNL is and always will be a show that typically has 1-3 ok to good sketches, then some crap. OCCASIONALLY an episode will transcend and be great the whole way (or most of the way) through.
October 25th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
No. I have never watched any "best of collection" or anything like that. I used to watch it every Sat as a kid, and into teen years. It just isn't of the same quality anymore.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:38 PM ^
It was funny, yeah... and then it went on for about ten minutes too long.
October 25th, 2018 at 5:07 PM ^
It was hilarious until I realized the script was actually just a transcript of the hearing.
October 25th, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
“She” (Lindsey Graham) does “no, you are Bill Cosby, you are him.” He says “please stop saying Bill Cosby.” That shit was funny.
October 25th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
It remains exactly the same level of humor, only the audience changes.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
I downvoted you til I saw this comment. How dare you assume I would downvote you because I’m a millennial
October 25th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
With the exception of a few bright spots here and there, that show lost its luster years ago. It will never be as good as the 90s and early 00s.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
this is a great OT thread. Best eras
1) Late 70's with Belushi Aykroyd, Murray, and Martin
2) Mid 90's with Rock, Farley, Spade, et al
3) Mid 70's with Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain, Gilda Radner
4)Early 90's with Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Dennis Miller
5) Mid 80's with Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo
October 25th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Your list is wrong because Phil Hartman isn't in it.
October 25th, 2018 at 6:03 PM ^
Pretty sure your "Mid 70's" was one year. Also, Steve Martin was never a cast member.
October 25th, 2018 at 8:02 PM ^
It just seem that way because he has hosted often being one of the earliest in the 5 times club AND some of his shows were real classics - two wide and crazy Czech brothers and their bulges, Theodoric of York, medieval barber, "getting small" and of course, King Tut.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
Which will never be as good as the mid (start) to late 70's and 80's.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
Pete Davidson is the only strong talent left on the show.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:45 PM ^
You forgot the /s
October 25th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
No i didn't. Between his stand up and his writing he is probably has the strongest future
October 25th, 2018 at 4:37 PM ^
Stop it. You're embarrassing yourself.
October 25th, 2018 at 4:49 PM ^
Went to see his stand up show a couple years ago. Was greatly disappointed. It wasn't good at all. Had high hopes as I typically like his contributions on SNL.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
No talent... and now no more Ariana Grande
October 25th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
I don't watch SNL as I'm old and can't stay up that late, but Pete Davidson was on Howard Stern last month and was great. He is a really cool dude. I honestly feel really bad for him right now as he was deep in love and even got some new tats about Ariana. Other than that, he and Christian Yelich look like brothers.
October 25th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
Pete is great. Obviously he has a lot of haters, especially on here, but the fact is is he a top notch stand up. Im guessing the people that hate on him are more into mainstream comics or the "safe" comedy. To each his own
October 25th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
Laziest fucking internet take in the developed world:
"SNL hasn't been funny since ______."
October 25th, 2018 at 6:00 PM ^
This is a sentiment I hear from literally everyone past the age of 40ish. There are more avenues to get into comedy these days, and it still remains a solid show. There were dud sketches in the 90’s as well. Don’t even get me started on the 70’s and 80’s, that stuff has not aged well, like all comedy I guess. Pisses me off when I guy like Chevy Chase goes on a rant about the show sucks, it was never that funny when he was on it was just the only show like it.

Jeter?
October 25th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
Jeter signed a letter of intent but never attended Michigan. He is a fan.
October 25th, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
Incorrect. Derek Jeter attended Michigan for a semester in 1992 after playing in the minors but withdrew in 1993 after the Yankees wanted him to play during that time. He just never played baseball at Michigan. Jeter is an alum without a degree.

Yeah Jeets!
October 25th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
This is correct. He lived down the hall from me in Couzens in '92. We couldn't get him to play on our flag football team though. Didn't want to risk his $1M signing bonus for some reason.
October 25th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
Concern about future professional contracts will mean the end of Couzens Hall flag football as we've known it, just ask Nick Bosa's dad.
October 25th, 2018 at 3:16 PM ^
Sat next to him in Crisler for a Fab Five game. This was in the era where it was general seating for students. Was a really nice guy. I knew who he was, and he was very chill talking about being a draft pick.
This was just weeks before he headed out to the Yankees.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
He's no Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but he's alright I guess.
October 25th, 2018 at 5:11 PM ^
I suspect he thinks the block M is for "Member's Only."
Member's Only. When only the best will do. Members Only. Members Only. When you put it on, something happens to you.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
Lucy Liu hosted SNL at least once.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
You're right - good catch!
October 25th, 2018 at 8:04 PM ^
Yes, she was name checked by Awkwafina when she hosted recently.
October 25th, 2018 at 1:27 PM ^
President Ford was on SNL many times ... in the form of Chevy Chase.
