Former 5* QB Hunter Johnson transferring to NW
Hunter Johnsons elected to transfer from Clemson earlier in the summer and has now decided to transfer to Northwestern. He will be a redshirt sophomore when he is eligible in 2019 and if he is still there by then, Michigan would only play against him once in 2021 (unless NW and Michigan meet in the big ten championship game before then). Regardless, that's a good get for Pat Fitzgerald.
The former No. 1 ranked QB in the class of 2017 commits to Northwestern. Welcome to the family, @HunterPh413.

What the.....
He will at least avoid Brandon Peters who was the reason he transferred from Avon High School to Brownsburg.
Huge get for NW. Pat Fitzgerald is a great coach but will never be considered elite until he wins a big ten title. This may help him do that
Re: Shea Patterson.
Huge get for UM. Harbaugh is a great coach but will never be considered elite until he wins a big ten title. This may help him do that
Nice try, when Fitzgerald wins a game coaching a NFL team than maybe pull that out again
about that...
How much better can this guy be than who they have now? I mean their current qb is being mocked as a first rounder...
I’m just glad you explained who Hunter Johnson was...
If only I had an upvote to give. You deserve one!
Ha Ha! #truth
Somewhere, there's an Illinois blogger moving their prediction of future games with Northwestern from "lean loss" to "fucked", which is the prediction for a fair number of their games anyway.
Wow. Congrats to Northwestern and Fitzgerald!
Boy, I really thought Purdue would snag him. Great get for Northwestern.
Glad to see top recruits also wanna play school, too .
Tough for this kid at Clemson. Kelly Bryant played well this year and all reports point to Trevor Lawrence being the real deal
Yeah I watched Clemson's spring game to get a look at Lawrence. Kid is for sure the real deal. He might be better than Bryant right now.
I live in the Chicago area and have met Coach Fitzgerald a handful of times at an annual NW golf outing at my club. He seems to be a very nice guy and his players all seem to be hard-working and intelligent. He is kind of like a John Belein type of football coach in the sense that he doesn't look for shortcuts and expects the very best of his players. Congrats to him and Northwestern for picking this kid up!
yeah, friend of mine went to school with him at NW and they are still close friends. She said he's a really great guy and I have no reason to not believe her.
Good, maybe now Wisconsin might not be able to just roll through the BIG west essentially unopposed.
Isn't Northwestern Chicago's Big Ten team?
If I could upvote...
Huge pick up for NW!
I'm in favor of this development.
Don’t call the the Mildcats.
Nice pickup for NW. The West needs more balance and Fitzgerald is a solid coach with high standards.
We would only see him once, in 2021 @ home, if he stays that long. Good for the conference, and good for us. Hopefully he can beat our rivals to drive down east standings a couple of times.
So continuing this former #1 HS ranked QB transferring from the SEC to the BigTen who ends up with Trevor Lawrence? I'm going with Indiana.
Clemson is in the ACC not SEC
well son-of-a.....
Ok, forget the SEC part, it's a meaningless detail. My post is still clever and needs to be discussed. The top two quarterbacks coming out of HS two years in a row transfer from a southern school to a big ten school. That's pretty odd.
I was at Ole Miss the last two days touring the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College with my kiddo, and asked about ten people what they thought of Shea Patterson transferring to Michigan. A couple said “good riddance” and proceeded to regale me with tails about Patterson’s purported immaturity and arrogant BMOC behavior, but most didn’t express any ill will, saying that he deserved a chance to play somewhere else given the situation. What surprised me a bit was how complimentary most folks were about Harbaugh, and his prospects for developing Patterson.
Humble brag?
Ole Miss has an honors college? Is it a JUCO?
Hah! Yeah, that’s what I would have thought also, before visiting, which we did on the advice of a college matching service that we’re working with. These honors colleges are a growing trend among public universities hoping to contend with private universities for students on the higher end of the achievement scale, and worth thinking about when exploring options. They’ve built a lovely, dedicated facility there, the students we talked to were sharp, eager, and polite, and the faculty we met were passionate. Admittedly, they’ve got a lot to overcome with the University’s reputation, but the reputation of their honors college is beginning to spread, like it is for others. Still, it didn’t impress me as much as Georgia or Clemson, which we’ve visited in subsequent days.
And the rich get richer.
Good move for Hunter and NW
Johnson’s brother Cole was a key special teams player for Northwestern who earned Practice Player of the Week honors six times for the Wildcats from 2013-16, before earning a degree in communication studies and enrolling in dental school. He may have done more of the transfer recruiting than Fitzgerald did.
A really surprising transferred, to say the least.
The gal in the t-shirt to the right that says "I don't care. Thanks." sums it up for me.
Northwestern's beautiful practice facility on the lake is paying off!
