Denard nearly had his first NFL TD
Great run, but then ...
It's that kind of year for Michigan fans.

Wow.
Nice run, nice play by the defender. And yeah...that's just the way it goes, of course.
December 15th, 2013 at 3:16 PM ^
He won't make that mistake again.
Then again, will he ever get the ball close to the endzone again? It's not like that's a prolific offense....
December 15th, 2013 at 3:19 PM ^
Jacksonville is improving, trust me. Their days as a league punching bag are coming to an end. Their coaching and scouting is pretty good so far
December 15th, 2013 at 4:12 PM ^
that has always been a bugaboo of his. that speed though has to be noticed too. maybe he will play a bigger role down the stretch to see what he can do.
December 16th, 2013 at 9:54 AM ^
There's two games left. They are well into the stretch and he's still not getting much of a look.
Also, I don't think Denard makes it to season two. He has 19 carries and three fumbles on the season. That's awful no matter how fast you are. Love the dude, but I don't think he's cut out for the NFL.

oh man... i feel terrible for him. that's the worst. I'm sure he'll brush it off and be right back in there though.

I'm just going to jump in here and say that going into today, Michael Cox has better stats as an NFL running back than Denard Robinson.
December 15th, 2013 at 4:56 PM ^
Great comeback there Magnus.
December 15th, 2013 at 4:14 PM ^
i thought that was lewan donkey-punching.
December 15th, 2013 at 3:39 PM ^
And what makes it sadder is that Cox is averaging a "robust" 2.1 ypc.
December 16th, 2013 at 8:10 AM ^
Not saying Denard is lighting the world on fire, but last time I checked 2.9 YPC is still better than 2.1
December 16th, 2013 at 8:24 AM ^
Yes, but 1.6 YPC isn't better than 2.1.
December 15th, 2013 at 3:42 PM ^
I used to question your love of Cox, but now I am also a Cox supporter.

Sure, everyone wanted voting back so they could neg people to Bolivion. I prefer to look on the positive side and give this the upvotes it deserves.

Also, Mike Cox absolutely crushed it in that game against Delaware State.

I, often, wonder what this community would be like if you, Brian, and Section 1 stopped pretending to be Michigan fans and left to go join Mike Cox, Spread Football Analytics, and Rich Rodriguez fan sites, respectively.
December 16th, 2013 at 10:17 AM ^
It would be terrible, and you would be sad.

Is it to slam Denard Robinson as overrated, who represented Michigan as well as any player and played a different position?
Is it to slam Fred Jackson for not playing the correct player at tailback?
Hoke, for not convincing Cox to stay for his 5th year?
Cox, who seems like a great kid, for underachieving while at UofM?
I just don't see the point of this post. You should know that as a coach, players who have been amazing college players, don't alwys pan out in the NFL, and players that didn't have outstanding college careers, turn out to be gems in the NFL.
As a valuable contributer to this blog, this comment is beneath you.
December 16th, 2013 at 10:45 AM ^
The point of his post, as is the case with nearly all of Magnus' posts, is the self-promotion of his "football knowledge." Remember, he knows more about football than you do, and never misses an opportunity to remind you of that fact.
December 16th, 2013 at 11:09 AM ^
I'm the blog's resident Cox Supporter, so I never miss a chance to promote him. It's not a knock on Denard at all. It was just kind of a joke. Relax.

Denard will not play much next season either, but I think the season following he explodes back onto the scene and becomes a legitimate threat at RB.
December 15th, 2013 at 4:21 PM ^
If he doesn't learn ball security, they won't keep him around. Turnovers will get you out of the NFL very quickly.
December 15th, 2013 at 8:05 PM ^
Reggie Bush seems to be de doing alright despite that.
December 16th, 2013 at 9:58 AM ^
Who says he even makes it to next season let alone a third season? Yeah, he's fast, but he's fumbled on 3 out of his 19 carries. If he can't cut it on the Jags and has a big fumble problem, I doubt anyone else is going to give him a look.
They don't have a lot of money tied up in him, so they'll probably cut him after the season and move on to someone else that can hold on to the ball.
December 15th, 2013 at 3:45 PM ^
Great swipe by the defender, Denard didn't even see him coming. A little bit of bad luck, but have to have better ball security than that.
December 15th, 2013 at 3:55 PM ^
Sucks.
December 15th, 2013 at 3:49 PM ^
LOL Henne just executed a flawless zone read
December 15th, 2013 at 8:07 PM ^
Um. That definitely wasn't a zone read
December 15th, 2013 at 3:53 PM ^
You cannot touch the QB without getting a flag. Its getting ridiculous. Every NFL game I watch there's at least one insane "thats a penalty?" call
December 15th, 2013 at 4:01 PM ^
It has just been that kind of year for Michigan football hasn't it?
December 15th, 2013 at 4:02 PM ^
Well no wonder he fumbled. That might be the first time I've ever seen him hold the ball with his left arm.
December 15th, 2013 at 4:09 PM ^
I cant tell if youre serious....
December 15th, 2013 at 4:14 PM ^
He used to exclusively carry that ball in his right hand/arm in college. If you go watch Denard highlights, I think he rarely switches arms when he's running
December 15th, 2013 at 4:21 PM ^
The first two pages of google images results show him either throwing it with his right hand or holding it in his left. Smiling in almost all of them.
December 15th, 2013 at 4:49 PM ^
Good lord am I stupid. Yes, when a person faces you their right/left orientation is obviously reversed. So now I shall post this in my shame
December 15th, 2013 at 9:45 PM ^
I can't stop watching...
December 15th, 2013 at 11:50 PM ^
Wow. This is awesome.
December 15th, 2013 at 4:20 PM ^
Ya I just recall the arm he always carried the ball in to be his left. Because it would drive me nuts that he never switched to his outside hand.
I may not be recalling correctly though.
Magnus I know you've weighed in on his ball carrying before. Any insight?
December 15th, 2013 at 5:54 PM ^
LOL. I think it's funny that anyone remembers this, but yes, I criticized his ball security after the season opener in 2010, his first year as the starting QB.
http://touchthebanner.blogspot.com/2010/09/scouting-report-denard-robinson.html
It's been a weakness of his to carry the ball with his left hand, he rarely covers it up in traffic, and he often sticks the ball out to try to gain extra yardage. I'm really surprised that one of the best runners in college football and a guy who was a starting QB for three years couldn't learn to protect the football better. Today's game was his 3rd fumble, and he had just 17 carries on the year going into today. That's not a recipe for earning/keeping a job in the NFL...
