Unofficial Spring Game Depth Chart
I put together a depth chart of what I think we'll see on the field Saturday. With the news of the Furman suspension, I put Freshman Jarrod Wilson in his position on the 2nd team defense.
Opinions? Feedback? Corrections? Let me know, I want to have one with me at the game saturday.

running with the 2s at CB. By some accounts, he could even be running with the 1s.
Odors?
Well yeah! Those kind of turnovers stink.
If your odor is harsh enough, people won't want to wrap you up. Nothin but arm tackles . . .

iphone fail. odors=issues.
when as a FB he will be getting at most two carries a game and maybe two passes
Holy shit that 2nd team OL is scary
We'll be saying that again in 2016 when the second string are all four and five stars with USC and Alabama offers.
Different context, but maybe a bit of a calming thought.
Another calming thought is that Kalis should come in and lock down one of those backup jobs. Freshman, yes, but the highest ranked OL we've had in a long time and supposed to be as college ready as they come.
Heres hoping Kalis can become a utility guy like Schofield the last couple of years
Here's to hoping he doesn't need to be...
But realistically, we probably only need one or two guys who can be solid back-ups, unless we have a ton of injuries. Until the bowl game, we only played 6 OL last year, because Barnum was a little banged up.
If we can have one or two guys who can play in a pinch, we'll probably be good.
am i the only one concerned about our o-line in 2013? who is going to replace our 3 fifth year seniors and there is also a possibility that lewan could go pro.
LT- Lewan LG- Bryant C- Miller RG- Kalis? RT- Schofield
Does that seem right?
What's so scary about that? Looks pretty solid to me. Two proven players at tackle, two behemoths at guard, and a guy at center with two years in the system... You can't get scared every time someone new has to start, or you might as well stick to watching the NFL.
The scary thing is that "behemoth" and "2 years in the system" don't mean anything. Lots of behemoths aren't very good. Two years isn't a lot of time, especially for a project like Miller. That's 3 unknown quantities, Lewan who might leave, and Schofield, who isn't proven yet either. Could work out, but doesn't look like a likely NC contender line at this point.
Don't forget our diamond in the rough Ben Braden. He'll probably play tackle, but there is potential he is a backup this year and fighting for starting time in 2013.
Magnuson is probably not the worst thing to happen to emergency press service, as well.
even jake long had deficiencies as a freshman.
What scares me more than that is that we lose three, maybe four (Lewan) starting linemen after this year who are currently backed up by mostly freshmen, walk-ons, and air
What can you do about it? I mean, other than lock up an entire line of four stars, but that's just crazy talk. Not even close to possible. Wait, what? Anyway, as long as two of this year's class is ready to play in 2013 we should be okay, and maybe they can unearth the O-Line's version of Brink to add a little stress-relieving depth.
Mike Jones got displaced by Bolden the minute he set foot in Ann Arbor.
who? [EDIT: Dang, beaten to the joke already further down.]
MIKE JONES!!!! (callback #281-330-8004)
Haven't the scouting reports been very favorable for Joe Bolden?
Do you see Hawthorne and Jones ahead of him based on seniority or have they been better so far this spring?
Joe Bolden has been running some snaps with the ones because Demens injured his finger or something.
I think he was practicing with a cast.
Borges said something about him looking good so far in practice, but it was only about a sentence worth of info... But this is the internet, so go ahead and assume that he will be an All American this year...
I love (and hate) how much Hoke keeps everything under wraps.
you've got frank clark ahead of beyer? i think beyer is going to play with the ones.
No Beyer is on the Blue team defense which is the 2nd team defense. The 1st team defense is on the Maize team. Confusing I know, but that's how the format of the game is.
I don't think he's confused, he's just saying he thinks it will be the other way around.
I disagree with him, for the record.
You've been duly noted, for the record.
why do you have clark ahead of beyer? i don't have a strong opinion.
Reason #1: Clark played WDE all year last year, and this is a new spot for Beyer. It's totally foreign to him, but the fact that Clark practiced there all year last year, and saw game snaps at that spot, gives him an edge. Admittedly, this is not a super strong reason, but the one I decided to list first.
Reason #2: Size-wise, these guys are pretty similar (Clark has Beyer by about 5lbs last year, although that could have evened out), but Clark is reportedly the more athletic of the two. I've heard him referred to as an athletic "freak," and this is why they wanted him on the field last year even though we had Roh and Black at that spot. Coming out of HS, scouts were saying Clark might have even been able to play safety in college (although that might be bit of a stretch).
Reason #3: Although this spot has been mentioned as a heated position battle, it just seems that Clark has gotten more praise. Not by a lot, but from what I've read and heard, it just sounds like Clark has the edge right now.
Don't get me wrong, it's close, and this could all change between now and fall anyway.
fair enough. i'm guessing beyer b/c he's stronger against the run and can play a little coverage. i think we agree that clark is better at getting after the qb.
Where did you hear Beyer was stronger against the run? I haven't heard that specifically about either of them, but I would assume that, at least a year ago, Clark was stronger against the run, which is why he was slotted at DE and Beyer was put at SAM. Things could have changed in 8 months or so, I suppose.
Frank Clark looked way better than Beyer last year.
based on frank clarks play in the sugar bowl, Im ok with that
have they said if its going to be an actual game this year or more of a scrimage like years past?
It's going to be exactly like last year. Did you look at the 2nd team OL? Lord, that is scary and thank God there are guys coming in this fall. That's a big reason it isn't an actual game.
Hoke said that we don't have the depth to run an actual scrimmage now.
Bolden?
The guy who will probably beat out MIKE JONES!!!
I think Bolden is definitely ahead of Mike Jones, I also think Jeremy Jackson is probably ahead of Drew Dileo, oh and Talbott before Raymon Taylor. That second team Oline is going to move some people (yikerz!!)
