OT - Acoustic versions of songs that have no business being done acoustically
This will probably seem like the most random thread on the planet, but I need some advice.
I play at a few open mics during the week, and I generally just try to make an ass out of myself and take suggestions for acoustic covers of songs that don't really work right on acoustic, stuff like MIA - "Paper Planes" (complete with acoustic gunshot sounds), Michael Jackson - "Billie Jean," Europe - "The Final Countdown."
I'm trying to find some new suggestions for songs since I've been playing the same things for a while now. Can you guys help out?
to any lame, d-baggish accoustic crooner.
Pretty much anything by Boyce Avenue is pretty tight.
Acoustic versions of songs that have no business existing.

DO EET
It's Jonathan Coulton's Acoustic version of mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back".
BEST. SONG. EVER.
WIN. +1 for you
Oh my god I think my ears just melted
Daughtry did an acoustic version of Poker Face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqT4VnnEU0M
By Paul Simon
Never meant to be acoustic, that's for sure.
But if you don't mind doing a ton of fast picking (use a light pick), the chords are just G-D-D-A, G-D-D-G for the chorus, and G-D-A-D, G-D-A-D for the verses. So easy. Picking's the only hard part.
Near the end there's a bass solo bridge -- pretty basic pentatonic thing. You can play it on the E and D strings.
does an interesting acoustic version of this one. It can be done.
Gin & Juice........."laid back"
+1. Phish does a great cover of Gin and Juice.

That's not Phish.
Public Enemy: Fight the Power, 911 Is a Joke, Bring the Noise (the Anthrax version), pretty much anything.
Nine Inch Nails: Head Like a Hole, Closer
Filter: Hey Man Nice Shot
Thunderkiss '65
Muse - "Hysteria"
The Offspring - "Come Out and Play"
Weezer - "Hash Pipe"
Also- Hinder. Nothing by Hinder should ever be done acousitcally.
Then again, nothing by Hinder should be done with electric guitars, either.
When I got to "Nothing by Hinder should ever be done acoustically," I literally mouthed the words to the next part before I actually read it.
Sorry to go off topic, but since this is an OT thread...
Why are the Gophers the center of attention in your signature? Do you live in Minnesota? A few of us have connections to the state, I was just curious if you do, too
Because the Minne$ucka Yellow Lolpher$ are our greatest rival, and Anonymosity is a true Michigan Man.
Fuckin' geauxfurs.
Evenflow-Pearl Jam
When i was in school they used to play this acoustic version of Hey Ya after last call at scorekeepers

brings back awesome memories of carrying out NYPD and post-bar
feasting
by Meshuggah.
Well, granted, they did do their own acoustic version of Future Breed Machine. That was pretty good.
I need to find that link. How about Girls of Porn - Mr. Bungle? Probably not the most well-known of tunes but I'm sure the reaction would be fantastic.
have just made my day, week, month, year. Thank you.
Wait and Bleed
John West does a great acoustic version of Umbrella by Rihanna. It is way better than the original...plus the chicks will dig it.

take on 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'? It's quite beautiful.
99 Luftballoons using the German lyrics.
HOLY DIVER
Saw Tom Morello do a solo version of this acoustically during the RNC in St. Paul last year. He was also singing, and it was heinously bad.
"God Save The Queen" by the Sex Pistols... or actually anything by the Sex Pistols
Boys in the Hood...This is just classic as an acoustic

Also I always wanted to hear an acoustic version of First of the Month by Bone Thugs in Harmony
This isn't on the same level as the other songs mentioned, but I hate the Foo Fighters' acoustic version of Everlong. IME, it's inferior to the original.
Toxic-Britney Spears
(Serious, a friend of mine covered it so well acoustically it actually sounded like music)
Also, are you the same guy who occasionally plays the upper level of Potbelly's? "Paper Planes" gave it away.
No, I am not, and it disappoints me to hear someone else is getting inside my brain when I'm sleeping and stealing my ideas.
BEST. COVER. EVER
any song by the locust would be interesting, too. probably god awful but interesting and the chance that anyone in the crowd would get it is minute.
Not a bad idea, but even in the extremely rare opportunity that someone yelled out "PLAY SOMETHING FROM PLAGUE SOUNDSCAPES!" how do you even pick a song? There are like, 25 tracks.
