7 true freshman played today, with (IIRC) R. Taylor and Rawls got their first snaps of the year

says countess played as well. Don't remember it though
September 17th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
I know he got a tackle on special teams.
September 17th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
Wile led the special teams unit in tackles today. Which is a horrible truth.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
Countess played in the first quarter.

Kind of seems like a waste. Did Hopkin play at all? Don't remember seeing him out there.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
out there?
September 17th, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
especially if he could HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL
September 17th, 2011 at 4:32 PM ^
pounded the rock well. He seemed really nervous in there. Can't say I blame him.

I met his Aunt and Uncle in the stands, decked from head to toe in Maize and Blue (Aunt Maize, Uncle Blue, respectively). Uncle had a 38 jersey and a hat with 38 and Rawls' name on it and so on. They were taking it to extremes. Great folks. They were thrilled to see him get in. I told them that Fred Jackson says he's better than Mark Ingram and they laughed and said that he's really good, but Jackson also says Toussaint is Chris Perry but faster.
I like them!

I think Taylor played last week, too. I remember hearing his name on a kickoff.

Don't understand the point in burning a redshirt for rawls for 2 meaningless carries, and garbage time for taylor. I'm a bigger fan of giving a hard working walk-on garbage time. However, if either Rawls or Taylor end up playing meaningful snaps later this year I will eat these words. Forgive me not liking the chances of that happening though.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
Taylor was in there from the first quarter. It wasn't exactly "garbage time."
And I believe Rawls had 3 carries, but I might be wrong.

Toussaint appears to be our best option at RB, but it'd be nice to see some more of Rawls. We need a guy to step up.
September 17th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
are capable. Nobody else in the backfield is getting it done right now (Denard excluded). They need a third back. Gotta have it. Even if he doesn't play, they need a third back ready to go. a guy that can bull for two twice in a row yards when that's exactly what the defense expects can play. I don't trust any of the other guys to get that done consistently.

for two plays. He didin't get the ball either time. I was really shocked that when we got the ball with 7+ minutes up 25 that Gardner wasn't put in the game. With the way we are playing I'm not expecting him to get an opportunity against SDSU.

I saw Taylor, Clark, Beyer, Morgan, Rawls, and Wile. Didn't see Countess but i could easily have missed him. and No, Hopkins did not play by my recall.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:36 PM ^
Taylor and Clark played pretty well from what I saw.
September 17th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Definitely had a who is that moment where I had had to think about who wore #57 for a few seconds before remembering it was Clark. Looked really athletic.

Great Job!

Very unlikely he gets a fifth year and apparently he still doesn't know the playbook.

Read it again man

I think the coaches are trying everything they can to find a" number 1" RB. We just can't have Denard carry us all the time. Honestly though, I feel like it's partly our D's fault. We seem to start slowly, and require our O to open up to get us back in the game. I would have prefered that we just went I form late in the EMU game to get practice, and not worry about extra points.
September 17th, 2011 at 5:09 PM ^
Just a guess, but for needing to learn the playbook and pass protection Rawls probably would have played sooner. He must be showing something in practice. Expect to see him get a chance to move up the depth chart..

The postgame notes release includes this:
• Four Wolverine players made their collegiate debut against Eastern Michigan -- freshman cornerback Raymon Taylor, freshman running back Thomas Rawls, junior/sophomore offensive guard Erik Gunderson and sophomore/freshman offensive guard Joey Burzynski.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:41 PM ^
this was not Taylor's first game action, I saw him in the ND game.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Taylor was playing the nickel for most of the game I beleive.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
They burned Rawls because they need for someone to emerges as a power back. I think it could be him, he pounded the rock well today. Vincent Smith made me very happy as well though.
September 17th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Today he saw his first snaps on defense. The new depth chart should be interesting. Avery and M-Rob played very little, Carvin not at all.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
We have depth issues and a Mega Class coming in next year. They might as well get some experience now before being thrown in under B1G game pressure. Most of these freshman are Hoke's kids, he might have promised them early playing time. Whatever the reason, it really doesn't matter.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
I also counted 8. Didn't greg brown get in on special teams? I could be wrong....
September 17th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
Raymon Taylor got his first snaps of the year? According to the BTN announcer he got a ton of time in the nickel package against ND last week.

It is an interesting thought, but if the coaches played someone in the first game of the year I doubt they have any intentions of trying to get him a red shirt.

I was a little pissed to see rawls play.

With the depth at RB and particularly at CB, I'm more interested in some freshmen getting PT and much less worried about whether some of these guys have have eligibility four years from now. More so given that we're potentially bringing in several corners next year.
