Employing a salary cap…

Employing a salary cap expert supposes both that there's a cap, and that agreements must be honored.

At this juncture neither is true! On either side...

The question is obvious -…

The question is obvious - they certainly should acknowledge in crootin coverage that every starter might get poached & every reserve might get recruited or portaled over in this era.

But what's not clear is how Michigan will emerge from the "transition phase" of NIL & portal, so it's not clear how to weigh the likelihood of any given recruit sticking around 3-5 years when evaluating them.

So for now I'd guess they stick with the method they've been employing, which is attempt to predict the players impact and mention how likely they are to be around awhile.

Those who leave are too…

Those who leave are too though...🤷‍♂️

I'm going to assume you're…

I'm going to assume you're kidding but forgot the /s Matte

I guess we will see indeed…

I guess we will see indeed.

We can't possibly know the depth chart of 100+ college football teams, or their NIL offers, or whether the player would rather be closer to home after all (Moore is from Colorado, linked to Nebraska at one time iirc).

When Waller departed the day after showing some skill at the Spring game I was pretty sure NIL was the motivation. But with Moore, there are multiple reasons he might want to head elsewhere.

That's getting more into the…

That's getting more into the realm of existential, pal...

He's going somewhere he won…

He's going somewhere he won't simply be known as "the other Semaj"...

OP asked for opinions on…

OP asked for opinions on other teams' hauls in addition to the Lions.

The Eagles got the most collective talent above the perceived draft slot. By quite a bit I believe. Now time will tell how well the predicted draft value matches the actual performance.

But if taking Penix at 8 when having just signed a QB to a guaranteed contract is getting low value from a pick, getting Quinyon & DeJean where Philly did is maxxing value out! They had some good later picks too, including Keegan. From the 24-hours later perspective, the Eagles won the draft.

JJ did very well with his selection by the Vikings, and Harbaugh did a good job starting to build a Harbaugh team. Wish he'd gotten Blake tho!

McGregor in the Wide-9 set…

McGregor in the Wide-9 set will be a great pickup for NYJ. People will be asking how did he get passed by 257 times?!

Sag, your knowledge is what…

Sag, your knowledge is what's nasty!

Many UDFA have multiple suitors, and negotiations between the prospective teams & the players' agents begins days or even weeks before the draft.

Now certainly some don't have multiple teams pursuing them, and then being drafted offers a modicum of security in comparison.

And if you get no nibbles? Hope you worked on that free degree!

Well as far as that goes,…

Well as far as that goes, was King worse than Josh Wallace? Because that's who his competition would have been if he'd played for Michigan.

Not to dis Wallace at all, but King did get drafted!

Yeah but then Frames got…

Yeah but then Frames got ahold of him & coached him up...🤷‍♂️

UDFA get to pick their team,…

UDFA get to pick their team, based on scheme fit & depth at the position. Much better than being a 7th rounder with none of that leverage, and barely any more commitment from the team that drafted you than the UDFA.

And Cromulent Jones is heard…

And Cromulent Jones is heard from...

How much have you…

How much have you contributed to making this run at Brooks? Because that's what's separating Michigan from many other schools right now.

We win all the hospital fund raisers, but so far not the NIL fund raisers.

Which is actually nothing to be ashamed about...🤷‍♂️

It actually make$ a certain…

It actually make$ a certain kind of $ense...

The first and only thought…

The first and only thought that entered my head about "what happened" was Michigan had been outbid for Waller's services.

How do I decline this invite…

How do I decline this invite?

The difference between what…

The difference between what the Pats will demand to drop from 3 to 11 vs what the Chargers will get is why the Vikings likely can't get higher than 5. Arizona would trade down from 4 (under the theory that the perceived slight drop-off among the top 3 WRs merits adding the picks) but again not likely as far as 11.

And yes, The Athletic writer Ted Nguyen rated the teams likely to want to draft a QB this year, and deemed Minnesota by far the best destination. Good for JJ if that happens!

I think the difference here…

I think the difference here is between using the iconography of the pillagers vs that of the pillaged?

The pillagers perhap don't feel exploited by it...?

While conceding  I don't…

While conceding  I don't read every article on this site, and certainly don't read all the comments -  I feel positive no one here has ever said Cade was worse than John O'Korn! Or Russell Bellamy!

You mean Michigan is at the…

You mean Michigan is at the phase that's actually "NIL"?

All these other things are not that...

As I read it we have a…

As I read it we have a conflict:

Illegal in Michigan v. Courts declare ncaa rules prohibiting it unconstitutional.

I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know the answer, but - which prevails?!

What happened to their other…

What happened to their other QB croot, Air something?

He bail when Sayin flipped? Or just unworthy of mention?

As an Ann Arbor native of…

As an Ann Arbor native of that same timeline, Don I have to ask - you were a UM freshman in 1971 and found radical speechifying boring?

That would definitely not fit in with the professors & professors' kids social universe I evolved in, as a townie.

Hey, at least we tied osu in '73 during your school years - but alas, just to be screwed over by sparty!

At last, finally, John is…

At last, finally, John is free...

Eh... Nah!

In response to crg:

Eh... Nah!

Thanks for taking the time to educate a person who lags far behind on internet participatory projects!

Yeah, what he said... subtle!

Yeah, what he said... subtle!

Nothing has ever been more…

Nothing has ever been more apropos of the Mgoblog community than the fact that this book has received 4x the goal (so far, and rising), but the same people say "Wait, we're supposed to pay the players?!"

The Money Cannon is real, but selective...

I love your whole comment…

I love your whole comment geoffriau! I regret I have but 1 Upvote to bestow upon it.

While I have myself purchased HAIL pretty much every year, I laughed aloud at recognition of myself in your not wanting the memory of disappointment hanging around!

But yes, they did do that, and yes you will be able to pull this book down whenever you wish!

Now, I'm not smart at Kickstarter, but when I followed the link it showed over $200K had been pledged (of a $50K target). Are no further donations required then? What happens with the overage? Does it count towards purchase price of the book?

Smart people, enlighten me please...

This is not to defend or…

This is not to defend or support the rule which Stalions violated "the spirit" of - but it specifically refers to advance scouting, not the in-game sign stealing bama is admitting to (actually bragging about).

But in keeping with the accusations against Michigan, these are unpaid GAs, not paid staff, which the rule is targeted at. Which is why Stalions violated the "spirit of sportsmanship" not the actual rule as written.

How?

Something in the…

How?

Something in the vicinity of 13 players from that D have already been drafted, with more to come.

Largely 1st rounders too!

GA 5 ⭐️ preferably!

GA 5 ⭐️ preferably!

So do we all Jonesy

So do we all Jonesy

Paying kids in the portal…

Paying kids in the portal isn't a "loophole" - getting them admitted is!

If a proven grad transfer is considering Michigan, then paying him like a veteran is fine.

If a non-grad can get admitted & would be an immediate help to the team being legitimately competitive, paying him like a Corum/JJ is just smart.

And we'll provide some transformation once they're in!

It's paying 6 figures+ to HS kids that isn't gonna work. In hoops they're gone after 1 year anyway. Look at Kentucky for the end path to that.

In football they're free agents every year now, so again a poor investment.

Let's see if Blake Underwood is an LSU Tiger when he enters the 2028 draft...

Can transcendence be…

Can transcendence be PowerPointed?

Can you see a path that…

Can you see a path that utilizes both?

I can...

Unless a player literally does not care about anything further than the next bag, with no vision for the future or his life options (and those players have never really gravitated towards Michigan, even before NIL), then a path that has some NIL but leads with the Michigan Difference is where the return to greatness lies.

I'm willing to concede…

I'm willing to concede Michigan is unlikely to make the ncaa tournament in 2025, but mostly because of admissions. A quick fix with transfers is probably not going to be allowed.

Beyond that I expect a competitive team and will not just say "oh well" if they're not just in the tournament, but upsetting favored teams.

We've just see it too many times in too many places to accept less. Again, recognizing that in today's college hoops world, the portal is the way to build a program. It's on Santa now...

An historic program, in…

An historic program, in awfully bad shape.

Well so was Mac Jones, no?

Well so was Mac Jones, no?

The Bears could swap with D…

The Bears could swap with D.C. for some extra picks. Commandos get DMV native Caleb, Bears get Chicagoland native JJ.

Win-Win!

Or Pats take him at 3.

Or…

Or Pats take him at 3.

Or Commandos at 2?!

I believe JJ doesn't last past 4. Cards have already said they're open for business.

And I don't believe Harbaugh takes MHJr at 5 either. He's trading back or taking OT.

Well, actually everyone…

Well, actually everyone thought LaPorta was a top tier TE. He was ranked as a top-3 TE prospect, top 50 pick.

Did he exceed expectations? Absolutely!

NO ONE who doesn't poop in…

NO ONE who doesn't poop in their cooler or burn couches just to watch em burn thinks JJ is going to last til the 2nd round!

This tape is moving JJ up to…

This tape is moving JJ up to 2nd pick in the draft!

Also, need a higher roof for some of those passes!

Or 9, 10, 11... by that…

Or 9, 10, 11... by that logic!

But out of those 3, only…

But out of those 3, only DeVries please!

I would just as soon watch a Juwan coached team as a team that scored 11 pts in a half, or clanged shot after shot (when they hadn't turned it over before even shooting!)

Welcome to Ann Arbor Danny…

Welcome to Ann Arbor Danny Hurley!

Dude I had Kentucky in the…

Dude I had Kentucky in the FINAL!

My bracket got broken, shredded, set ablaze & then pissed on!

(Not to mention I bought into the Medved hype on this blog & had CSU reaching the Sweet 16!) 🤬
