9/11 is never going to be funny. Shame on Brady for making it a source of humor.

The only suicide jokes  that…

The only suicide jokes  that are acceptable are ones that deal with Hitlers.

Chris Spielman.One of my…

Chris Spielman.

One of my history professors in college, Dr. Robert Citino, went to OSU. Terrific professor.

Schmeling’s fight vs Max…

Schmeling’s fight vs Max Baer, who was half Jewish, was hugely significant. Schmeling was a pawn of Hitler who later in life befriended Louis. He even funded Louis’ funeral.

A fallschirmjager and boxer. Definition of a badass, but more importantly a decent man who transcended the racist culture in which he was born. He saved two Jewish children during the war by hiding them in his apartment.Max Schmeling was one of those “good Germans”.

Yer today he is seen by Americans as the Nazi Louis beat. How utterly injust.

Aryan is not the same as…

Aryan is not the same as white.

Nazis were Aryan supremacists. They believed in racial hygiene. They persecuted people regardless of skin color. Jews, Slavs, disabled, gay…all white under the US classification of race.

I will also point out that the 1936 Olympics were an enormous propaganda success for the Nazis. It legitimatized Nazi Germany. A legitimacy that did not exist prior due to Hitler withdrawing from the League of Nations, renouncing Versailles Treaty, passing the Nuremberg  Laws, reclaiming Saarland, etc.

Germany won more medals than any other nation by a decent margin and were able to use the  Olympics to show the world the new Germany.

What Owens did at UM and in Berlin was extraordinary, but his story is more about   FDR’s racist response to Owens success than Owens disproving Hitler’s wacko theories. For whatever reason Americans keep promoting the lie that  Owens’ achievements had a great impact upon racial attitudes and that just isn’t the case.

Jesse Owens was and is a hero. But whitewashing or distorting the past doesn’t help us tell his story. It actually damages it as it undersells what he experienced at home as a black man.

They aren’t stacked at every…

They aren’t stacked at every position. Offensively,  they have a bunch of talented but unproven commodities outside of Henderson, Judkins, and Ebuka.  Their OL is meh. Their receivers are unproven. Talent is no guarantee of production.

They bring back a lot of experience defensively. That is true.  But then so does Michigan.

Stars matter. Money matters…

Stars matter. Money matters. Coaching matters.

But what matters most is culture.  Ohio State is trying to buy culture. Sometimes that works. Most times it does not.

Ohio State may well beat Michigan this year, but I am certain that they will not win the national championship. Contrary to the widespread perception they are not loaded. Major hole at QB, mediocre line , inexperienced receivers outside of Ebuka, a DL that doesn’t excel at the pass rush, so so linebackers…this is arguably Day’s most flawed team to date just looking at the overall roster.

There are no transcendant talents. At least not yet. Jeremiah Smith may well prove to be one.

Ohio State will get off to a rip roaring start because of their weak schedule. But I think they lose at Oregon and at Penn State.

Caleb Downs is a terrific player, but safeties typically are not differencemakers. QBS are. OSU not landing Cam Ward was a massive miss.

I don’t think Michigan or OSU are in top five teams. Not with their respective offensive issues.

The Spanos family are truly…

The Spanos family are truly awful. They won’t be able to tolerate a coach who challenges authority like Harbaugh will for very long. Especially if he has some initial struggles.

This Spanos-Harbaugh marriage has the potential to get really ugly.

I suspect his time in LA…

I suspect his time in LA will be shorter than people think. The Chargers ownership is notoriously bad. It is worse than anything Harbaugh has ever had to deal with before.

Tigers don’t change their stripes. Especially egomaniacal billionaires. I give it three years before Spanos fires Harbaugh and tries to weasel out of paying him the rest of his contract.

Michigan is going to have to…

Michigan is going to have to take 2-4 safeties between the portal and recruiting next year.

Clinton did a graduation at…

Clinton did a graduation at EMU in 2000. Rare for a president to do a ceremony at a working class school. I saw his motorcade later on that day heading to Air Force One. In hindsight I am shocked at how close we were able to get. 100 feet or so.

If he is playing significant…

If he is playing significant snaps Michigan is in deep shit. This dude was a role player on a FCS  team.

His other offer was Mercer.

I would have responded that…

I would have responded that most Americans either did not have ancestors at the time or were loyalists.

We in speaking of the Revolution is a very tricky thing.

There is no WW2 without WWI…

There is no WW2 without WWI. There was no reason to change it either when they could have chosen VJ Day. What they did wasn’t inclusive. It was typical American solipsism.

Do understand that November 11th isn’t about American veterans. It’s about the end of a catastrophic World War that begat another World War, revolutions, genocides, etc.

Armistice Day is far more  inclusive than Veteran’s Day which is in fact  exclusive as it ignores the hundreds of millions of lives impacted by the First World War. Armistice Day is a day for nations to commemorate a shared horror, not a nationalist holiday.

His only other offer was…

His only other offer was Mercer.

Warm body.

Good for him, but this isn’t much of an add at all in terms of on field performance. If this guy is getting significant snaps…yikes,

I still do not understand…

I still do not understand why English left. There were snaps to be had.

Neither did Mike Hart.Hart…

Neither did Mike Hart.

Hart wasn’t an ace recruiter.

Veteran’s Day being on…

Veteran’s Day being on Armistice Day is so very gross to me. 20 million humans died in a war that has shaped large swaths of humanity and Americans make it about themselves.

Veteran’s Day should be on another day.

They do? Who? Randall Cobb,…

They do? Who? Randall Cobb, Wandale Robinson, and who?

I prefer celebrating my…

I prefer celebrating my ancestral European heritage in a healthy and non toxic manner.Labor Day is for the celebration of labor.Let’s all dance around the May Pole.

Latin is used in science,…

Latin is used in science, medicine and law. It graces public buildings, money, and  crests of universities. Latin is relevant just not in a traditional sense.

Beasley, Bridgman, and Moore…

Beasley, Bridgman, and Moore are gone. Michigan is going to have to hit the portal for some depth.

He isn’t staying both years.

Beasley is gone.Ludwig is a special teamer.

There is one LB in the last…

There is one LB in the last class.

All freshmen.Depth next year…

All freshmen.

Depth next year is going to be green.

That’s why you recruit. All…

That’s why you recruit. All of those spots are being filled by guys UM recruited.

Tuttle is the guy. They are going to add 1-2 WRs. Berry is taking Saab’s spot. Kline is going to be TE2..

The nature of college football is that there will be years when you will have a young roster. Thar is where Michigan is at.

If you were expecting them to add experienced guys at every spot you mentioned that was not a realistic expectation.

What spots are those…

What spots are those?

Michigan doesn’t have a lot of spots to fill.

Bridgeman is gone.

Bridgeman is gone.

McNeil-Reader are as good of…

McNeil-Reader are as good of DT pair as you will find.

Decker’a contract is up in a year so they needed a developmental OT.

The Utah kid can play multiple positions plus special teams.

Mingo should bolster the interior push alongside Paschel. Magohany is their replacement for Zeitler in a year.

This was a weak class for edge and the Lions badly needed corners. B plus, A minus.

James Turner signed with the…

James Turner signed with the Lions. That is a great spot for him. Lions are in dire need of m upgrade at K.

Um, he talked mostly about…

Um, he talked mostly about running back and said at the end special teams. Safety doesn’t merit much discussion.

When he visited the Lions in a top 30 visit he talked to the offensive staff, not the defensive staff.

So the exact opposite of what you said,

He is going to make the team…

He is going to make the team. He probably beats out Green last year’s 7th round pick.

Both  guys are starting…

Both  guys are starting caliber CBs.  Both should be good to very good starters in the league. They got two of the top six CBs in a good class. They later landed two more top 100 prospects at DT and G.

A, A, C, B, A, ALions…

A, A, C, B, A, A

Lions managed to address pressing needs at CB, DT, and G with top 100 prospects. I’d say they did okay. The two middle picks are trust me type selections which this regime has earned the right to say.

They gave a third for a guy…

They gave a third for a guy who can play safety, RB, and special teams.

NFL teams evaluate players on what skills they exhibit regardless of what opposing teams gameplan for.

It’s not really that…

It’s not really that shocking.

CoJo and McGregor didn’t have the production. McGregor had the added issue of injuries.

Harrell doesn’t have the measurables.

Trente was a part time starter.

Nugent and Henderson are  average talents.

It is what it is. They  will forever be part of a legendary run. They will all be remembered for being part of an exceptional team.

They won a national title…

They won a national title and three Big Ten titles in a row. They have nothing else to prove by staying.

Doesn’t look like Michigan…

Doesn’t look like Michigan is going to come close to breaking the record..

Cornelius is probably the…

Cornelius is probably the next guy to go. Harrell probably after him.Not sure at all about Nugent, Henderson, or Trente. Turner will be an UDFA as will Wallace.

Except this is a 4th rounder…

Except this is a 4th rounder, not a first as Boden was.

The draft is a crapshoot. Especially so at this stage. Going with a hyper athletic project to replace Decker is an acceptable risk.

The cap isn’t static.

They aren’t getting starters this late in the draft with this roster.

Lions are drafting for depth…

Lions are drafting for depth at this point. I would prefer they not trade 2025 picks because any hole they have now can be addressed through a trade.(WR)

They can still get a quality G in the 5th-6th rounds to develop. I was really hoping for Zinter. Alas…

Mike is a nickel. Ennistraw…

Mike is a nickel. Ennistraw is an outside corner.

Swear getting arrested for…

Swear getting arrested for DUI eliminates him for consideration for Lions.

Lions can afford to let him…

Lions can afford to let him sit for a year to recover. Really, really hope he is there in the fifth round or they trade yp for him.

Lions are set at TE.

Lions are set at TE.

They have Sorsby from last…

They have Sorsby from last year and Holmes has openly admitted that they need to keep adding to OL. G is going to be filled. Just a matter of when. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took two guards.

Decker, I think, will be back on a team friendly deal. But if not they will find an OT in next year’s draft.
