I am pro-Purdue as a Midwest transplant in NYC.

I have committed to still…

I have committed to still being a fan of Michigan, but I am riding off into the sunset. I played in college, coached for a bit, but UM football was kind of my last and most personal connection to the sport. At this point in my life as I enter into new scholarly work and professional development, I can't really commit the same energy to football. This season was the perfect send off for my intense fandom and the deep connection I had to the game. I'll still lurk around here and check scores, likely take my family to a game again at some point, but I'm not following the sport with the detail and rigor I once did. I will not be following recruiting or watching tape of other teams. This team gave me the perfect way to go out as an intense fan. I will still proudly wear my 97 and 23 National Champs hats and the Michigan gear I've obtained over the years.

Long story short, yes I will be, but I will always be rooting for the University and the program and all of those involved.

Lots of compelling comments…

Lots of compelling comments. Keeping it professional, I’d tell Warde the university is looking to go in a different direction. They’ve been spinning their tires for years in a shifting college athletic landscape, have been unable to retain top flight coaching talent at one of the most prestigious and successful universities in the country (and world). With Harbaugh gone and the college athletics landscape shifting more it’s time to go in a new direction. The AD and university need someone who can execute a vision of success across sports with good PR and a strong fundraiser and organizer for NIL. The Manuel administration lacks a vision to assess success and when you lose good coaches and have weird shit happen like all of the transfers or the Pierson thing, you can’t really say he’s doing a good job in the sports that matter here.

I don't think that the…

I don't think that the combination of Ryan Day and that core of players is a combination that can win a championship and I don't think their portal additions are going to be world beaters. They're a great assemblage of potential, but after the last three years, this group doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from me because they haven't beaten anyone but one dimensional Penn State teams.

They're giving HUGE 2007…

They're giving HUGE 2007 vibes to me as well, it would be too sweet if after the last three seasons and being so close, they experience a 2007 equivalent.

Burke is the big one, but…

Burke is the big one, but Egbuka has been the most overrated WR of their pantheon we've seen in sometime, I find him very pedestrian. It won't be any harder than the last few years!

I really like this topic,…

I really like this topic, good post OP.

I try to look at each game in the broader context of the season. I think that the circumstances surrounding PSU and OSU made those games more challenging than the UW game despite UW being an incredible team. PSU on the road with the last minute suspension of Coach Harbaugh. Their defense was definitely the best and made that game incredibly challenging. OSU was probably the best team top to bottom, but they're so poorly coached and in their own heads by this point, that you could kind of tell that McCord didn't have it in him to rise to the occasion. The Rose Bowl is always filled with crazy hiccups and weird turns of events, but that's kind of inherent to the game, less Bama specific. If I'm ranking the games: 1) Bama 2) PSU 3) OSU 4) UW. In terms of team personnel: 1) OSU 2) Bama 3) UW 4) PSU.

I'm in the same boat. Really…

I'm in the same boat. Really want this one so I can ride off into the sunset w/ my fandom!

A year ago he had wrapped…

A year ago he had wrapped his high school career and last night he was put in high pressure situations against Nick Saban's Alabama. The young man has skills and is going to be a great one. Like many have noted, I can't recall a true freshman receiver playing as much as he has for a Michigan team. I noted several times last night where he turned up in big spots on the field instead of other more experienced players. I bet you he'll ball out next Monday!

You sound like my parents!…

You sound like my parents! Haha. I've realized that as a former player, I don't much enjoy playing the role of a fan. Granted, it took me well over a decade to reach this conclusion, but I'm there. I'm at peace with it. I stopped watching the NFL about 8 years ago and loved getting my Sundays back, I'm sure I'll enjoy my Saturdays even more.

This is in all likelihood…

This is in all likelihood the last year I'm going to follow major college football. I've become exhausted with the entire production and the outsized role that media plays in this sport. I had always wanted to attend a Rose Bowl because of its significance in the sport, but I always wanted to wait until Michigan would be in it. Now I'm a PhD candidate and cannot afford that. Lol. The format for the expanded playoff looks like it'll create weird matchups and lord knows the TV companies will be pressing their entire body weight on to the scale, much like this year.

I've heard on numerous…

I've heard on numerous podcasts that FSU folks have some serious animosity towards the ACC and have for some time. FSU making an attempt to leave isn't that surprising. Would be interesting to see if anyone would be interested in tagging along.

He will probably have a…

He will probably have a realistic shot at competing for the Nickel spot next season and if Rod Moore does leave for the NFL, I would guess he'd be the next safety in the rotation joining Sabb and Johnson. Rod Moore notwithstanding, safety usually takes a couple years to lock down and they've repped him at Nickel in an NFL level defense. I think he's as likely to be a dude as Seth originally believed (I did too) the depth chart has had some traffic though. Being good definitely helps that time ease by though!

You are correct. There are…

You are correct. There are other things that occupy the real estate of my mind besides a mid-major team's* seeding from the NCAA men's basketball tournament that occurred a decade ago, but go off!

*A team that I do not follow, root for, or generally give a shit about.

The entire framework is a…

The entire framework is a crock of shit. No other sport are champions determined by trying to guess the future. It's results or a random draw. Fuck ESPN and the CFP. I'm genuinely hoping that UM wins it all so I can walk away from this with Michigan as a national champion. The entire assemblage of this sport has just decayed beyond belief. As a former player I can say with clear eyes that being a fan fucking sucks, especially in the current landscape of the sport. I'm at the point where I'd rather watch lower division schools because at the least it's football, not the ES(EC)PN circle jerk. Really hoping we pull this off so we can stick it to ESPN and the rest of this whack ass sport.

The front 7 must play well…

The front 7 must play well for us to stifle the offense. I think that our secondary has already demonstrated how effective they can be against the most talented receiving corps in the country. Furthermore, Tommy Rees ain't shit as an OC. Offensively, we'll need to empty the book and get it done. Get everyone healthy, scheme it up and go do the damn thing. The setting has been laid and it's a storybook narrative, Michigan needs to fulfill their part and win.

I'm not frightened by…

I'm not frightened by Alabama. Any matchup was going to be our toughest game of the year. Alabama is obviously talented but styles make fights. A month to get right, scheme it up, and go toe to toe. I do think it would be lovely for Michigan to win it all so I can abandon following this stupid sport though. The controversies and media influence is beyond insufferable at this point. FSU was hosed, Bama hasn't looked great, rankings don't mean anything until the entire dataset is completed. The notion of a committee doing this is just dumb, let the results speak for themselves that's what football is supposed to be about.

This is insufferable

This is insufferable

This is what I've been…

This is what I've been clamoring for! FSU can be in, but they are the weakest of the 4 as it stands. Texas has the head to head. Hopefully this is how it shakes out.

1. Michigan

2. Washington …

1. Michigan

2. Washington

3. Texas/Bama

4. FSU

The undefeated conference champs all deserve to be in, Texas beat Bama head to head. FSU will also get their 2nd string QB back so last night's performance isn't a projection of their chances going forward. I think that at this point in time Texas is better than FSU because of the QB dynamic but that does not preclude them from including FSU in the playoff. While Bama had the impressive win yesterday, they lost head to head. Conversely, you could also say that Bama's one loss was more impressive than Texas's lone loss. I believe that whichever they roll with will end up the #3 seed and we'll be off to the races. I do not believe that UGA has a meaningful shot and that there is a very real possibility that the SEC does not get any teams into the playoff this year which would be wonderful. Regardless of their politicking, it's not their birthright and as we've seen so many times this year the national "pundits" don't know their ass from a hole in the wall.

Also FSU won with their 3rd…

Also FSU won with their 3rd string QB who will NOT be the starting QB for any playoff game. There's a bit of SEC spin going on with that. Granted I haven't seen the 2nd string guy play but there's a month of practices and they won all the damn games.

Humoring the logic of the TV…

Humoring the logic of the TV analysts and the precedent. Shouldn't Texas be left out? If it's more about who you are today plus the undefeated conference champion, Bama's early season loss shouldn't matter right? They beat Georgia which is more impressive than any other win Texas has plus Texas's loss is worse. FSU having the undefeated conference championship will hopefully be enough to squeak in at #4, we move to #1 and Texas is left out in the cold. Ahhh one could hope I guess.

Also worth noting that…

Also worth noting that literally nobody in the nation plays a cover 2 zone the way Iowa does. It's the defensive equivalent of playing a service academy.

Third times the charm lol.

Felt like the game plan was…

Felt like the game plan was not much of anything at all. Kind of played into Iowa's hands a bit and still did the thing. The defense really played complimentary ball. Was a straight up Iowa game, not sure if there's anything more to say about this one.

Gus and Klatt are pretty mid…

Gus and Klatt are pretty mid. I heard Devin Gardner toeing the Fox party line last week on WTKA and he's full of shit lol. A boring game nonetheless.

We want the "G loss, FSU win…

We want the "G loss, FSU win, Texas win: 1) Mich 2) Wash 3) Alabama 4) FSU " outcome right? Just trying to double check my rooting interests.

Lost quite a bit of respect…

Lost quite a bit of respect and regard for Klatt after yesterday. I'm one of those folks who also doesn't care for Gus Johnson either resulting in that broadcast being a bit painful. Felt like Klatt and Johnson were both really stumping for OSU pretty hard.

Played with an AC joint…

Played with an AC joint sprain before, it'll be sore after the game but your adrenaline is flowing so much during the game, you feel like you're 100%.

I get what you're saying but…

I get what you're saying but for me there's a certain transparency with the big dogs like Fox and ESPN. They're just advertising vessels and TV is theater. With SZD, they present an image of self righteousness and authenticity that is the highest degree of bullshit. Godfrey's insider-but-an-outsider schtick is insufferable and he's just a jaded wannabe football documentarian. Johnson likes to use jargon to present as former player or someone who was in the coaching sphere but as an ex-player it's pretty easy to tell this guy doesn't know shit from shinola. They always made it a thing to dislike Michigan because UM is "holier-than-thou" but they're most holier-than-thou podcast/CFB media operation I've consumed. Their attempts at being authentic are bullshit and I felt it was always easy to tell when they were just megaphones for agents. People will tell you everything about themselves if you listen to them, and in listening to them I found them all to be bad at analyzing the sport and they came off as assholes.

The SZD guys are not good…

The SZD guys are not good analysts and are a waste of time, IMO. They’re entertainment writers* cosplaying as people who know college football. Godfrey is actually quite bad at predicting and analyzing the quality of coaches. Go look at his track record, he’s a one sided hack. Johnson is a wannabe Xs and Os guys and piggybacks upon talking points made by people who have coached and played. Krishner is your run of the mill metro desk reporter who’s ended up in the area of CFB and adds nothing to analysis. Just drops in the bucket of bad media.

I'm interested to see what…

I'm interested to see what they pull off and where they go with this. Would be pretty gnarly if they're able to create the national-super conference type situation that some have been positing around these parts lately.

David Hale is a fucking hack…

David Hale is a fucking hack and a schmuck who carries water for the ACC. He was talking up the ND QB as the best in the country way longer than anyone because he was a Wake Forest guy. The guy is quite honestly a dogshit CFB writer. He was funny on Twitter but I've been off of there for some time. That guy more than anyone else on their editorial/analysis side, is the one who I think is the most undeserving of being given a voice about the sport. He's as bad as Dinich and Thamel. Chumps the lot of 'em.

Cave their fucking faces in.

Cave their fucking faces in.

If you think about it, you…

If you think about it, you could make Minny, MSU (if you so desired or were obliged to by state politics), and the little sisters of the poor as the non-con. Essentially you could have a solid but really winnable non-con schedule and then go into a solid conference schedule.

Let's leave the bullshit of…

Let's leave the bullshit of the league, OSU and MSU behind. The ultimate coup would be to get that California schools back into the same conference with the backing of the CA state government lol. Just really leave the B1G high and dry.

The ACC/ND model is the way…

The ACC/ND model is the way to go IMO. Better, more prestigious conference members. A regional rival, and a good conference for other sports. Also of note the ACC has a proportional revenue model. If we show up, we can keep our chunk. Additionally, UM is a force multiplier. UM will make the rest of the conference more competitive at football and the other sports in the ACC are great. Seems like an open/shut analysis. Michigan in the B1G is hamstrung by terrible programs that want to destroy us, off the field. While the ACC is home to schools that include natural rivals and academic peers who could stand to benefit from our involvement. The ACC with Michigan is a better athletic and academic conference than the B1G. The B1G will obviously benefit from the western programs but if UM dips out, then the USC/UCLA connects suddenly seem a lot less meaningful, they can only play OSU and PSU once. Let's go for it, lets drum up some ACC chatter and bring ND w/ us full time into the fold.

Break the B1G. OSU and PSU…

Break the B1G. OSU and PSU are the only other teams that command any type of national following and PSU is a B-tier at best program. Sue the shit out of the league, fuck the money up, and leave. The conference is attempting to tar and feather UM, they should not reap the benefits of Michigan's value. Simply put, it's time to go and we should stomp upon their couches on the way out as much as possible by beating the ever living shit of every B1G team (on the field, within the rules of play). It's time y'all let's go find a new athletic home.

Bro got a head job off of an NFL talent who was there before he was. That defense was annoying but it wasn't schematically anything special. He's not going to get talent to Purdue. Have going back to mid-tier coordinating gigs. Purdue's garbage and shall remain garbage. Who gives a shit about them.

The returner is supposed to…

The returner is supposed to have a halo. Even if it was his own guy that him, I'm pretty sure 19 for Purdue was inside the bubble he's supposed to have as a returner?

Semaj Morgan: dude.

Pour it on and embarrass them in the process.

I feel like that was just…

I feel like that was just David Hale from ESPN being the ACC homer he is.

I really hope the team salts…

I really hope the team salts the earth with the rest of the season. Run it all the way up, embarrass the other coaches, leave a scorched Earth. I'm of the belief we should run it up on everyone unless the opposing staff has a meaningful tie to the program like Bowling Green or Charlotte. Everyone already hated UM to begin with, we might as well oblige everyone and hate them all just as much. No better way to show it then smiling and scoring touchdowns and shutting teams down.

Savly, great post! TL;DR…

Savly, great post! TL;DR would have been nice the but contents are gold.

Can we collectively shove this down the throats of the national media? Not like Thamel or Godfrey could make sense of the contents contained within but it would be fun to shove this down everyone else's throat for a change.

I'm honestly of the belief…

I'm honestly of the belief that UM should have its own more formal/organized media apparatus akin to the Longhorn network and not connected to ESPN or Fox. Pull the viewership into the circled wagons. Any time something happens, the entire sporting world wants to shit down our neck. With the expertise and talent affiliated with the university and even demonstrated through this site, there is definitely a way that we could have a weekly national football type show that's niche for us. None of these shows have been worth it for years. Keep the vibes, traditions, and fandom alive in a way that we all align with as opposed to all the junk food they offer up on ESPN and Fox.
