Just wanted to talk about…

Just wanted to talk about the Henry case, obviously I’d like him to play for Michigan but if he doesn’t than so be it. Michigan has recruited plenty of edge pass rushers over the years to be in a good spot there. Also, some of the interior defensive lineman that are being recruited have the potential to be better pass rushers we’re used to lately which will make the team less dependent on the edge rush.

I find the USC stuff…

I find the USC stuff fascinating. There seems to be hype that Riley is going to turn them into a consistent playoff team and potential national championship team. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t see it. The dude has shown no ability to put together a competent defense and at some point that catches up to you. Oklahoma didn’t always have bad defenses, in fact they just hired the guy who put together good defenses for them in the past and Clemson folks loved. Michigan will probably close fine this year but next year should be great.

Michigan’s offense isn’t…

Michigan’s offense isn’t built for a shootout. The passing game has made strides the latter part of the schedule but the offense works methodically mostly. Create some turnovers, hit a few big plays then burn the clock out.

If the team beats OSU or…

If the team beats OSU or wins a BCS bowl game it’ll end up being Harbaugh’s best season ever here and most people didn’t expected it. The dude was publicly humbled by having his salary cut in half and could still manage to do that. Pretty amazing.

I said the most likely…

I said the most likely outcome was OSU’s offense staying on track and winning. Then proceeded with a way Michigan could win. Unlikely, sure but not miraculous. Nothing I suggested is outside the realm of normal football events taking place on the field.

Most likely OSU’s offense…

Most likely OSU’s offense stays on track and they win the game. However, I do see a path where Michigan jumps out to a big early lead and Michigan wins. Something like Michigan scoring a TD on the first possession of the game; CJ Stroud gets strip sacked for a Michigan TD; Buckeyes get the ball back, go three and out then Michigan scores a TD the next possession. The Buckeyes have to pass the rest of the way while Michigan salts the game away with Haskins and Corum.

I believe before the season…

I believe before the season started there was chatter going on about Cade having passes getting batted at the line of scrimmage. Don’t expect it to get fixed this season. He needs to fix that issue if he wants to play in NFL.

Pivoting for a moment. Cade’s ability to do pre-snap reads is awesome. It gives the offense the benefit of more time to read the defense, check in to better plays and allows Cade to manipulate the DBs with his eyes. It makes the offense capable of exploiting any team. The offense has struggled in the past because the QBs primary reading process was post snap putting a lot of pressure on the offensive line and play call to beat the defense.

I know folks are saying it…

I know folks are saying it will all resolve itself soon but I’m not so sure about that. Ohio state is most likely going to win out (vomit) and Michigan and MSU both go 10-2. Does Michigan or MSU get the better bowl? Rankings will probably be used in selecting those. I think the committee tries to rank teams based on their perceived value going forward and what they’ve done so far. I don’t think the committee believes in MSUs success so far and think if they’d played more games than the schedule has the losses would catch up. Since the committee uses opinions as part of the rankings is why people don’t like them because opinions are biased. It really doesn’t help the conversations are done mostly behind closed doors either. It’s not fully transparent why they do things. I think a lot of people would prefer getting rid of the committee altogether and just have a set of guidelines for how things are done.

Cade is getting better every…

Cade is getting better every week. There’s been way to much talk about JJ, including ridiculous comparative distributions earlier in the year to convince people JJ provided a better opportunity to beat Ohio State. Brian doesn’t like Cade and a fair amount of posters/Michigan fans value his football opinion. I personally do not. I do like the website for Michigan sports though. Some people are captivated by beautiful looking throws and that becomes a sticking point for them. This happens with football coaches too. I’m all about moving the chains and making the throw you need to make more often than not. JJ has only provided flashes but isn’t  capable of consistently moving the offense. There is no set timetable how long or even if JJ will ever put it together. Looking forward to watching more of Cade’s career in a Michigan uniform for now.

It wasn’t perfect but it was…

It wasn’t perfect but it was good enough. I was happy to see Michigan get crossing route TD. Felt like Michigan deserved to dish that out after being on the other side of that too many times recently. Michigan won the game. There’s a section of the fan base that is over Harbaugh and is fixated on his flaws. There isn’t a perfect coach or person out there. It’s common for people to make the same mistakes over and over again because there human. Don’t let it ruin the wins though.

Excited to see the game! I…

Excited to see the game! I don’t have a good read on this game but I’ve enjoyed this season so far and hope to see Michigan win but if they lose to play valiantly.

I have a difficult time…

I have a difficult time worrying about what anything means for next year. The make up of the team will be different and conference could be better. I’d like to see the team win 11 games or more after this season concludes. Tangible sign of progress. How could you get rid of a dude like that especially if he’s taking half what you were paying him previously?

That loss sucked but we’re…

That loss sucked but we’re moving on. There was unexpected progress in the passing game. Let’s see if the team can get better against Indiana.

I get that folks want to see…

I get that folks want to see the passing game improve but the running game is super fun. This team has a chance to have two 1000 yard rushers at the end of  season which would be incredible.

Iowa dropped as far as they…

Iowa dropped as far as they did because they looked so bad this past weekend. Had it been a close loss I don’t believe they would have fallen out of the top ten. This is a really interesting year. I get the feeling a new team will get into the playoffs with all the chaos that keeps happening.

Cade is exactly like his…

Cade is exactly like his recruiting profile said. Where I disagree with this site is the players comparison of Shea Patterson. I don’t see Shea Patterson in Cade McNamara. Cade is much more composed in crucial situations than Patterson was. I believe Cade will get better with more game action so I’m excited to see it. McCarthy may become a good player but his recruiting profile didn’t suggest an all world talent like Trevor Lawrence or Quinn Ewers and the coaches don’t believe he’s a better option over McNamara. The important takeaway right now is the team is playing well with some room for growth. If they can improve in certain areas it will make for a special season.

My understanding is that FPI…

My understanding is that FPI ranking is based on what each team is expected to do against an average team and the projections are built off that simulated a lot of times. Michigan usually does really well against average teams it’s their performance against good teams that’s not comparable with the elites in CFB. Team record against top 25 opponents has more value to me as a result.

Coming into the year I…

Coming into the year I expected to be frustrated with the offense and defense at times. That has been the case so far. Prior to Rutgers I suspected the receivers were the cause of the passing game woes but now I see it’s probably a bit of the QB too. I think it takes the right combination of coaching, talent and commitment for the passing game to be successful and Michigan is lacking in all three of those areas. I don’t see a way those problems get fixed this year.

I’m not sure where everyone else is with this but the fact that B1G is inconsistent adds to my frustrations. Some years it’s good, some years it’s bad. I think it’s bad this year. Michigan could win a lot of games just by beating up on bad competition. It makes it difficult to move on from Harbaugh when he’s winning. I personally want this program to set a new course and not be dependent on the lack of strength in the conference to have good seasons. The current cycle gives me too much of mediocre NFL team vibe which is not a comfortable place to be.

I realize the offense doesn…

I realize the offense doesn’t want to abandon the run but they just need to pass for now. Rutgers doesn’t believe Michigan will commit to the pass so they’re selling out the against the run.

I didn’t see much from…

I didn’t see much from Coombs defense that looked good since he took over. Ryan Day talked about how much better the team looked stopping the run in his press conference which was an emphasis they stressed in practice. They’ll probably win a lot of games just on talent alone. I’m not sure the issues they have on pass defense can be fixed this year so my guess is they’ll sell out against the run. Here’s hoping Michigan’s receivers get better because there will be opportunities for them take advantage of the Buckeyes.

Clemson’s QB just isn’t good…

Clemson’s QB just isn’t good. He may be good at some point in his career but he’s not right now. That being said his play is a good reminder that QB recruiting is a crapshoot. Not even Dabo can get them right every time.

After the Washington game I…

After the Washington game I thought the team should base their offense in the wishbone with Haskins and Corum. The reality is I don’t care how the formation looks but I want the opposing defense to account for Michigan’s two best offensive players most plays.

The running game has been…

The running game has been fun to watch. It should be the focal point of the offense. Something that has stuck out to me is a deliberate attempt to get the ball to the best players and in interesting ways. Corum’s active use in the passing game is a shift from how running backs were used in previous years. Cade isn’t perfect but I think the wide receiver group is limiting the passing game. Continue working the passing game on early downs and hope the receivers improve.

Getting interest of…

Getting interest of California prospects hasn’t been the problem for Michigan since Harbaugh arrived. The problem has been getting good production and having them stay. I think Michigan should continue to recruit the best players but history says not to expect for much out of California.

Michigan won and that’s good…

Michigan won and that’s good. I’d like for them to keep doing that. The offense is frustrating to watch though.

Michigan’s running backs are…

Michigan’s running backs are great. The passing game was bad. I don’t think the passing game can be fixed this season.
Time to consider playing the wishbone. The best talents are the two running backs. Might as well threaten the defense with both every play. Offense will be looking to run but throw it deep when the safeties come in the box. Really simple and old school but may be the best option for the year.

Well that was something…

Well that was something. Onto Northern Illinois.

Just breaking down the…

Just breaking down the numbers you provided. Based off one game for both teams, Michigan gained yards per play which would make them more explosive. We’ll see if yards per play advantage holds up throughout the year though. I do get the OPs overall point that Michigan’s offense isn’t speed in space. I guess the argument against true speed in space is you can run around real fast and not gain a lot. Tend to get the feel people want more sense of urgency out of Michigan’s offense which would show itself in crunch time execution and less overall time of possession. Ole Miss is definitely more urgent in that sense. I also think folks want more passes and passing yards.

I’m not planning on…

The staff can see issues and tries their best to modernize the offense but I don’t think they know how to do it. I’m not sure if it’s recruiting or scheme, maybe both but I feel pretty confident the passing offense is going to be frustrating. Thus, the plan to run into stacked boxes hoping to out talent enough folks and get some wins along the way.

In theory I see that as ok. …

In theory I see that as ok.  Rotating between 5-2 and 2-5 as alleviating the pressure on the line through substitution but I don’t think this team has the right players to rely on true outside linebackers. Which outside linebackers can come in and take on those blocks? Otherwise, I see them using standing up DLs. We’ll see what happens. I do think eventually they will recruit the players needed to mix it up effectively so long as the staff sticks around.

I think the uncertainty…

I think the uncertainty behind how good the starters are going to be leads people to look at what’s behind them so if the starters disappoint what are replacement options like. Not to mention the Dline is throwing more guys out there on a position group that wasn’t stocked to begin with. I too thought 2011 defense wasn’t to bad but like you said got fumbles and it’s unclear the 2021 team has the same potential to generate a decent amount of turnovers.

Is it possible Harbaugh and…

Is it possible Harbaugh and Gattis totally want to have a modern offense but just don’t know how to? I’m hoping they put it together this year. I have a hard time seeing coaches intentionally holding their team back. Sometimes people try hard they just can’t get it done. The defense is going to be what it is.

I have similar concerns. I…

I have similar concerns. I’ve given up on a QB run threat. I don’t think the Harbaugh/Gattis combo will produce enough QB runs to force defenses really try to account for them. Cade is going to need to prove he can pass the ball to open up the run game for the RBs. I’m also looking for the Oline to keep Cade healthy.

I liked what I saw out of…

I liked what I saw out of Cade in the Rutgers game last year but similar to Brian I worry he won’t hold up all year. Just think he’s to small. Feel like the offensive line is going to inconsistent too. Really curious to start the season to see how the others in conference are before I lose hope.

Yeah - I think both sides of…

Yeah - I think both sides of the ball are going to be frustrating to watch at times. Hopefully the B1G has a bad year to provide some cover for that lol.

Appreciate the break down!…

Appreciate the break down! Heads up the total for Stueber should be -1 under offensive line chart.

I believe the poster your…

I believe the poster your responding to is pointing out a failure these universities have made to build a sustainable athletic department. They have essentially put all their money into the football program with the hope it`ll become a powerhouse and be profitable. Most don't get there and worse lock themselves into long term commitments of future resources they do not have.

I'm not bothered by this…

I'm not bothered by this news as it's been mentioned here before that he wasn't a pressing need. As a side note, I have taken on a new recruiting outlook. I don't think a new coach will come in and load the team up with top 100 players. I don't believe that is in Michigan's opportunity set. I'm also not bothered by players in the state going elsewhere. I believe one of the reasons Michigan hasn't had the success the fan base desires is because of the in state talent pool. I've seen what happens to the program with a bunch of Michigan players lately and it hasn't been championship caliber. I also realize there is a temptation for the coaches to go all out to be more appealing for certain players like Donovan Edwards. However, the recent history of those players suggests it's unlikely that they will bring a championship either. The program has had four different coaches since i've followed it, one of them had a transcending Michigan player bring a championship and I remember him being a generic three star. I'm not saying put zero resources into the state but I don't see much value putting a lot into it. I like the idea of taking high ceiling prospects regardless of their development level or their location.

The linebacker situation to…

The linebacker situation to me is very interesting. The staff took a bunch last year and appears to be planning to take a bunch this year too. It's been mentioned before that the staff doesn't really anticipates every player staying so it's easy to get lost in the volume of players there.

Thanks for putting all this…

Thanks for putting all this together! The coaches did just throw out an offer to a true DT out of Washington so I think they are still pursing those types of players if they're the right fit.

I read something from…

I read something from somewhere that had quotes from Sweden's PM and chief epidemologist about the situation and made it clear they aren't "fighting" against the virus. Their reasons included: population that is relatively already social distanced(i.e. lots of people living by themselves); an economy that needed to be as unimpeded as possible because it pays for the healthcare system and a relatively flat death rate without overwhelming the hospital system. Sweden is also encouraging people to practice social distancing whenever possible.  Another thing I thought was interesting is that the Swedish people trust their government and rising as a result of the governments action. This leads me to conclude that Sweden has a very different opportunity set than other places so comparisons will likely not be perfectly applicable. However, I do feel like Sweden's approach will tell us something. If Sweden continues on this path, the worst case scenario I was seeing - something like ~2 million people dying in the US - seems incredibly unlikely if the governments didn't intervene.

I read the article and there…

I read the article and there is a line where the officer did not smell alcohol on Simpson's breath which could explain the lack of an alcohol test. I'm not sure on Michigan laws but I've heard in some places a driver can always refuse a breathalyzer test. The lying part shouldn't be condoned but isn't really a big deal. Maybe Warde knew about the car being borrowed, maybe he didn't but I doubt that'll get proven. Definitely a grey area situation so it'll be interesting to see what happens going forward.

Does this kid play at the…

It'll be interesting to see how all these tweeners work out.

It's possible Shea and the…

It's possible Shea and the receivers were bad this year. Call the metric confirmation bias for those who thought the receivers didn't play well if you'd like. Your post calls the metric creators out without specifically talking about what's omitted and comes across as a fallacy of authority.

This is similar to what…

This is similar to what Harbaugh likes to do with his offense. Throw a bunch of guys that have experience running a offense and have them all provide input into it. First it was Harbaugh, Fisch and Drevno. Now it's Harbaugh, Gattis and Warinner. I'm not sure the current team has the bodies needed to maximize all these coaches specialties before they leave for another job. My hope is that the defense remains a top ten unit; these new coaches provide a recruiting and schematic profile their successors can follow.

I was one of the people that…

I was one of the people that wanted to Michigan to take a look at the kid. I have to imagine Michigan has done their research and decided whether they wanted to pursue already. Shea's struggles in the senior bowl make me feel uneasy with the QBs on the roster assuming Shea was the best of the bunch. I'm starting to come around to the reality that QB play could be mediocre/average again.

Yeah, I think this being the…

Yeah, I think this being the first game gives Michigan the best chance too. Lake will be figuring out how to manage clock, emotion and pressure of the new role for the first time. Those factors neutralize home field advantage. It says more about Michigan if they can't go in there and win barring injuries.

If i'm understanding you…

If i'm understanding you correctly, you're hoping for Michigan to replicate Utah. Big difference is Utah was at home, Michigan will be on the road. I still think Michigan should win that game unless injuries are the theme this offseason.

Harbaugh has a winning…

Harbaugh has a winning record in true road games 15-9 or 62.5 win percentage. Every team is better at home than on the road. Washington may not be ranked and this is their coaches first game. I think it's fair to expect a win assuming there aren't any major injuries ahead of time.

The probabilities have to…

The probabilities have to make sense throughout though which was my bigger point. As a side note, I think subjective expected win totals should match how many wins you expect from the team.
