Whatever causes upheaval and additional work for OSU is all well and good by me.

I'm not really sure what to make of O'Brien. He did great at Penn State given the circumstances. I thought his teams would be lucky just to make it to .500 but they went beyond that. His time with the Texans, overall, was pretty good. Again, taking the whole body of work, minus trading De'Andre Hopkins away for a way-over-the-hill RB and some duct tape. He had some good teams there that made the playoffs.

He probably is a terrible GM, but I'm not all that convinced he isn't a good coach. Either way, I don't see this as a net positive for OSU, and whatever they decide to do next, its going to cause more upheaval with trying to find new options. I'm sure they'll find someone, but whatever makes their jobs harder, I'm all for it.

This will test Day's resolve to let go of calling plays. If he elevates Brian Hartline I think it will be difficult to fully give up control. OTOH if Day's Plan B is another experienced play caller then he is serious about becoming a CEO HC.

He's going to coach both places? I'm confused. When the Ohio University does something I thought that was that. I hope they are investigating.

This is bad for Ohio. If nothing else BoB was going to run the football. The backfield is the strength of this years Ohio offense. Now that he is gone Ryan Day will revert back to playcaller duties. And well, we can all imagine how that goes.

Why am I seeing Chip Kelly's name everywhere for this?  Why would a guy who's actively trying to get out of college football take a massive pay cut to remain in college?

It always felt like a weird stop-gap anyway, and the internal chatter I heard was that BoB wasn't super-excited about basically being just an extension of Ryan Day in terms of play calling.

I'm sure they'll fine...someone to fill that spot.  I do wonder if they just promote internally at this point.

I hope they do hire Kelly. He runs a lot of finesse, misdirection, stretch wide. Your teams physicality and toughness is a product of what you practice. For Ohio it will be more of the same. What Michigan does counters the shit out of that offense. O'Brien was going to run a more traditional power set blocking fb downhill run game.
