This will be the thread for hot takes about the offense and offensive playcalling.

FGs are great but the down field passing is atrocious. Love the win but we need to have some ability to throw down field to compete at the top level

MSU is a shit show team. Bottom third of B10

At home. Under lights. With all the star receivers and 5* QB the red zone was a shit show. Its good enough for B10 because its a bad conference with what 3 teams that exist.  Its garbage against top 5 teams

I do not understand. You're sad?

We just beat our rival 29-7! FFS, cheer up!

We suffered through years of bad, ugly football. Now we win almost all the time. Enjoy it!

John Harbaugh wins the same way in Baltimore. Runs the ball, QB is exciting but inconsistent throwing the ball. Amazing kicker. Tough defense. Wears out opponents. Fantastic special teams. It's a formula that works in college and the pros.

Enjoy being a top team again. This is good times, folks.

Ok. Go ahead and sulk. Seriously, I'm not trying to yank your chain.

I just can't understand being unhappy about 2 straight years of incredibly successful football.

I love watching a fundamentally sound team that plays clean football and wins almost every game. I'm grateful that JH has returned Michigan to a place among the top teams in cfb.

As for "seeing Georgia and OSU every year" - I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense.

Last year Georgia's formula was VERY similar to JH. They had a plucky game manager for a QB, a ground and pound offense, they feature TE's in the passing game, and they had dominant line play. They also had more talent than we did. That defense was incredible. Their offensive scheme wasn't special, they controlled the football and shut teams down.

This year they absolutely should have lost to Missouri. Missouri, one of those inferior teams Michigan HAS NOT been threatened by this year.

OSU wins by winging the ball down the field and scoring pinball-machine numbers. They're good. They struggled to put away ND and didn't beat PSU as soundly as we did - but they're definitely very good.

I guess our fundamental difference is that you apparently lament that we're not OSU (or Georgia), while I celebrate that we're Michigan, we're clearly better than almost every school in the country, we beat OSU 42-27 last year, we just beat the crap out of PSU and MSU, and will probably go to Columbus undefeated.

Before last season, when people were calling for JH's head, I consistently said I still supported him, because the team and the program was sooooo much better under JH than it had been in years. The last two years have been so joyful and fun.

So, I'm happy, unapologetically so.

Thar should have been a touchdown too, but the throw was slightly behind Bell.

I am not a football insider of any sort but it looks to me like JJ has had it hammered into his head that his first goal as a passer is to avoid interceptions, and this double checking delays his release slightly.

Should have benched Edward's. Disgraced this program and this university. The fact the fan base ignored blatant hate speech is beyond me. Not donating another dollar until it's addressed. Fucking joke. Neg bang me you Walmart wolverine rednecks from bay city without a single tie to the university

Edwards fucked up, apologized for it at length, and is going to make amends (along with the rest of the team) in accompanying Jordan Acker to a local Holocaust museum.

I'm a UM grad with two degrees, and unless he repeats this kind of thing, I'm fine with how it's been handled so far.

M grad here, the son of two M grads, along with a sister, brother and soon to be neice M grad who grew up with season tickets, love the university and the football team and now live in that progressive "hellhole" called San Francisco, also have lived in London, Zurich, Paris, NY and spent years traveling in Central and South America. Work in tech here in Silicon Valley.

That makes me not a redneck, with real ties to the university and I'm totally fine watching a kid make a mistake, own up to it and make things right and not trying to destroy him for it.

Your sanctimonious take here, like you've never done anything wrong and your insistence that this community turn their backs on the kid is ludicrous. Quite frankly, go fuck yourself.

Your elitist comments about our fellow fans that might not have attended M, or towards people from a certain part of OUR state like Bay City makes me both sad and angry. Sad because you think you're superior to them in any way, because you're wrong there. Angry because you're exactly the part of our fan base I hate the most and the one that makes us look worse than anything a player ever tweeted.

It took until the final few minutes when the game was over before they just threw it deep or ran more trickeration. I would at least like to see 1 or 2 deep shots a game just to keep d honest. When does a d just not need to worry about defending anything over 10 yards?

Enjoyed the win. We knew it would be close at the half (remember PSU). MSU was brutalized, especially in the 2nd half. They knew we would run and couldn’t stop it. Only one TO. Great win with power football.

I keep telling myself that eventually Michigan will have a balanced offense and it never happens. We should have lit that secondary up like a Christmas tree. Hope it gets better in the next few weeks.

Yeah, it is true.  JH has Andrew Luck.  And he still ran the ball all day.  Stanford was really good that year and it worked well.  But the best player on the Pac-12 that year was Andrew Luck and JH did not adjust his approach.  Luck did pass more than JJ is this year.  But it was the same basic approach--run a lot, control the ball, grind down opponent.

Moody is money but I would like to rely less on him over the rest of the season and just punch the damn thing into the end zone instead.  Turn three of the five red zone FGs into TDs and it's a 41-7 full on ass whooping.  Instead it was a butt kicking but not a full on ass whooping.  Yes, there's a difference.  Seems like the OCs have been trying to unleash JJ some and his deep shots are now pretty accurate but the receivers are typically blanketed tightly.  Is that play design or receivers just not getting open?  Or something else?

All in all it feels great to get a win against MSU.

I'm not gonna bitch about a paving on the ground. 276 yards at 5.3 per attempt. Once it was 22-7, MSU clearly had no chance. Great execution in the run game, and it was enough against an MSU team that could do nothing except some chuck-and-prays that required excellent receiver efforts -- which they got. Otherwise, it could have been a shutout.

Good game, good result, got it done, 8-0.

Passing game? Well, for this thread, let's just say it needs work. From scheme, to play-calling, to even execution in some cases now, it's obvious it's not really a priority. JJ threw a nice middle-of-the-field dime with about 8 minutes left in the third quarter. He looked off Windmon and threw a DO. I'm assuming that was there a lot. I'm hoping, anyway. That's the kind of thing I wish we would try fifteen times a game as a complement to our run game.

Overall, though, another paving, and Paul is back. 8-0.

About 15 years ago, came back to the tailgate and heard the wailing and gnashing of teeth and commented “you know what I love about being a Michigan fan?  We get to Bitch after we win” (tm)

today was one of those days

Yeah, Corum and Schoonmaker and JJ and Donovan never get to touch the ball. Poor guys.

This team underutilizes WR's, but I'm thinking a lot of guys would like to be on an undefeated team playing in front of 110,000 people every week.

There are 6 undefeated P5 teams - we're one of them.

And you know what? There's nothing wrong with being a top destination for all defensive players and O-linemen!

I refuse to complain about a 29-7 beat-down of a rival, but one thing is pretty clear by now: Michigan has a far more sophisticated and honed running game than passing game.

Our running plays have nuance and counters upon counters that absolutely boggle our opponents. Complex blocking schemes and nifty little adjustments. RB's are wizards at finding holes and adjusting on the fly. Conversely, our pass routes do seem pretty fundamental, and receivers don't seem especially adept at improvising to find space.

That said, I will marvel at our remarkable running game and enjoy a sweet victory!

Go Blue!

Gotta fix the redzone issues. We should've had at least 12 more points on the board, but I feel like Harbaugh went conservative because he knew FGs would be enough to win this game.

The fan in me wanted a 20 point lead at halftime because of "Tuck comin", but the game plan indicated that they're more focused on just winning and moving closer to our date in Columbus.
