There is a 6-day hold on this game. The networks are waiting to see the results of Michigan-MSU and PSU-OSU before deciding which games to select. Check back on Sunday.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
Don't they have to give two weeks' notice before a night game?
October 27th, 2021 at 10:32 AM ^
Yes so that rules it out of being a night game. It's either a Noon or 3:30 pm start
October 27th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
The Big Ten doesn't do night games in November because it's too cold.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:41 AM ^
There is a lot of talk that U-M @ Penn Sate will be a whiteout at night on Nov 13th. I hope you are correct on the B1G policy but sometimes the networks get their way.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
Michigan has veto power over that being a night game, a psu friend of mine confirmed with a big ten rules expert via Twitter. I could find the tweet, but I don't want to. Basically, warde would have to actively be acting against the team's best interest in agreeing to a night game. It isn't happening.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:52 AM ^
But what if the team overrides Warde and says, collectively, 'lets play at any time and place they want, it won't matter - they gon' lose'? Because that would be awesome.
I don't expect that would happen, but it would be awesome!
October 27th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
Well they can’t “override” the AD… it’s his decision. He can choose to hear people out and allow them to voice their opinion, but it’s HIS choice. And regardless of what anyone says to him, his choice shouldn’t change here. No night game white out.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:57 AM ^
I don't believe we can be forced to play a night game in November
October 27th, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
That'll only be a night game if Michigan agrees to it. Once November rolls around, both schools have to agree to it otherwise Penn State it shit outta luck.
Considering their season is going down the toilet quickly, I don't know how much push there will be at that point in the season to have a night game anyway, but I could be wrong.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
This isn't true anymore. With the new TV contract, the Big Ten agreed to something like 19-21 primetime games per season for their TV partners. I think November ones are still rare though, and I have seen some reports that both teams have to agree to one in November.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
I still don't totally understand the new night game rules, but I don't think this will be a night game. It will most likely be either noon, 3:30pm, or 4pm. There was a rumor floating that the Michigan-PSU game could be a night game, but I am not sure about that one either.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
I could be wrong, but I think the rule is both schools have to agree for it to be a night game in November.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:45 AM ^
That's what I thought too, but I have seen some posters writing differing things on this subject.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:50 AM ^
The assertion that both teams have to agree in order to have a night game in November is correct. The B1G knew what it was doing when they scheduled OSU/PSU for October 31. Rare to have a night game in Columbus for OSU/PSU. However, it is always a night game in Happy Valley.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
Does that mean we agreed to a November night game in Kinnick in 2016? Or a November night game at Minnesota in 2017? I have seen some posters report that schools have the right to refuse after the first week of November, but I have not seen anything concrete reported.
I think the night game decisions are more complicated than just a simple veto now as the conference is required a certain number of primetime games for the networks by contract. I think one difference is the Kinnick game was scheduled before the season, but if I recall correctly, the Michigan-Minnesota game in 2017 was scheduled for primetime a week before the game. The 2016 Iowa game was also under the old TV contract.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
2017 Minnesota was at home.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:16 AM ^
Correct, but still was a night game.
October 27th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Fox picked our home games against MSU and Minnesota to be night games in 2017. Michigan had no say in the matter.
October 27th, 2021 at 3:07 PM ^
Is this true? I feel like we had to have some say, and likely just agreed to it. I know we have to meet a certain number of night games, but I doubt that the networks could force us to make a particular game a night game if we were against it, i.e. such that we had no say.

The B1G scheduled a game for a Sunday? Now THAT'S pretty rare. (Game is actually October 30th).

Ask Mike Jones.

Michael Barrett will be as a FB, LB or maybe something else. Stay tuned!

I’m too old to even be thinking about pre game drinking. I’d need a nap by half time.

The Big Noon kickoffs are getting pretty annoying. Of course, Michigan played most of it's games at noon throughout most of time, but it seems like they never play in the 3:30 slot anymore. They're either night games or noon games. Noon was perfect for snoozers against MAC teams or the lower B1G teams but games against Wisconsin - and certainly a top 10 matchup vs. Michigan State - should not be squeezed into the noon slot. My theory is that Fox is afraid of CBS's weekly SEC matchup at 3:30 which is stupid. I don't mind that they're trying to turn the noon game into something big but use it to transition to your best game at 3:30. The end.
(I live in the central time zone now and I still haven't adjusted. 11 AM is too early and disruptive to start a big game!)
October 27th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
The TV contract with FOX is the reason for this. FOX has prioritized the noon window. ABC/ESPN uses most of their allotment of first choice Big Ten games in primetime.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
DVR is the answer. I’m on the Left Coast so all games “start” at 5 pm and end by 7 pm.
Skip commercials and the halftime report, and it doesn’t only free up two hours of my day, I hit the 15 second jump between called plays if we’re rolling, or sometimes when we’re not bc I cannot suffer the “sky is maybe falling anxiety.”
Also helps cut short the 5 minute official reviews.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:49 AM ^
How can you do without the media time outs???!!!
October 27th, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
I live on the west coast and love noon (9am) starts. Lets me get up and watch the game and still have the whole of the afternoon and evening to enjoy my Saturday.
October 27th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
1000% this - mountain time zone here and love the noon (10a local) games. Game done around 1-130 and we can get on with other Saturday stuff
October 27th, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
Noon games are perfect for those of us with kids. Kids nap during much of the game. If the game is 3:30, then you gotta make and feed them dinner and do the bath routine. Night games of any time interferes with bed time routines.
October 27th, 2021 at 4:40 PM ^
I haven't even attempted to watch a live game since I had kids. Once in a while it happens, but it's rare. Thank God for DVR, no it's not the same but it has worked well for me.
October 27th, 2021 at 5:55 PM ^
The noon starts are terrible for us out here in the Mountain Time Zone, where they begin at 10am. To drive in to one of the Alum watch parties, I have to wake up by 8, leave by 9. Terrible atmosphere, no one is hyped.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:28 PM ^
You must not be in Denver! The watch parties are pretty fun here.

Gotta be a nooner in my opinion
October 27th, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
Win Saturday, and I think that will be the case. Not sure which network has the first choice for next week, but if it is FOX, it will be probably be noon for an undefeated Michigan.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
For what it's worth, Indiana's last two trips to the big house were November 3:30 starts. Indiana was unranked both times while we were #3 in 2016 and #4 in 2018.
Night skies by halftime. Snow angels in one of them.
October 27th, 2021 at 11:57 AM ^
Ahh yes... Snow Angels following a John O'Korn victory that heralded good things!
October 27th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
We will be coming in from NYC for the game too. I am assuming its a noon kick off.
October 27th, 2021 at 12:00 PM ^
Same, and I’m torn as to whether I want noon or 3:30. 3:30 is nice in November because you have the entire day to hang out in AA and go to breakfast and lunch before the game. Plus, 3:30 start time (which is more like 3:45) means that it’s dusk by halftime and a night game by the 4th quarter. Kinda the best of all worlds if you are coming into town for the game.
October 27th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
I will very likely be driving in from Chicago for this game. Anticipating a noon start, so have already booked a hotel. Given status, I can cancel if I need to.
October 27th, 2021 at 1:40 PM ^
Please be a noon game. I have a wedding to go to at 5.
October 27th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
Just skip the wedding.
October 27th, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
May have to. Not a relative, but a the parents of the groom are our closest friends.
Funny 4 years ago my daughter was married during football season, but she scheduled it on UM's bye week. Then 2 weeks later another friend of the family's daughter was married on the day UM was at IU.
Watched the first half and listened to the 2nd half on the radio. Wouldn't you know it, it goes into OT. Sat in the back of the church with my phone out and watched OT, no sound. Right as the IU pass was picked by UM to seal the win, the bride started down the isle.
