On tap:

UNC vs Virginia Tech

NW vs Sparty

Could be some interesting games especially the opener. Also some opponent scouting possibilities for the latter game.

Happy Opening Day Eve

Msu was bad enough to lose to Rutgers and still beat us last year. They look better this year and will be playing at home in front of a real crowd, that game is going to be a problem unless Michigan is a lot better than most people think

I would put alot of money on NW having the worst QB play in the Big Ten this year or close to it. Kinda crazy when their starter was a former 5* but shows the potential for massive busts with 5* guys. So again lets see how MSU looks against a QB with a pulse before freaking out.

Not discounting that as a possibility but it wouldn't be because MSU is having success against a terrible NW team with bad QB play. All it means is MSU is better than a 3-9 kinda team. I expected MSU to be about a 6-6 kinda team and honestly up 14 on a team that looks probably 3-9 caliber seems about right.

Johnson must have been a vastly different player in high school because he doesn't have a cannon, his ability to go through reads is poor, pocket presence is poor and he doesn't have very good speed either. Nothing about him really jumps out as the ability you would  think the number one recruit in his class would have.

What’s funny about that is Mac Jones was the 18th ranked qb that year. Davis Mills was ranked number one on the 247 composite. Dylan McCaffrey was number 5 and Sean Clifford who we will play this year at Penn St was number 8. Jake Fromm was number 3. Seems like he either regressed a lot or his high school stats were inflated.

South Dakota State is a good FCS team, but CSU also really shouldn't be trailing them by 3 scores at home.  Never understood why CSU hired Addazio in the first place.  Supposedly it was because Urban (!!!) recommended him.

Devin Gardner is doing well on the commentary.  Lot of energy from him.

Sometimes statline doesn't tell the full story, majority of his completions have been on open throws to his first read. Been terrible on reads where that is not available. Honestly if I was MSU I would be concerned a first read QB has that kinda statline. They will get absolutely shredded by good QBs.

Walker is definitely more talented than their RB's the last couple of years but not sold that MSU's oline looking good is anything other than a product of a really bad looking NW front this year. I think MSU probably goes around 6-6 so that is actually an improvement from last year for them.

Statline does not tell the full story, most of those were on first reads and easy completions. He has been bad anytime he has to come off his first read. Several missed opportunities because of that. It's honestly a good reason why people need to pump the breaks on MSU based on this game. If that is the statline for a QB that can't get through his reads they are going to get absolutely shredded by good QBs.

Walker is definitely a good RB with far better big play ability then their recent backs, but we will see how MSU holds up against better teams. Still not sold that their passing game, o-line or their secondary are any good.

Watched only the highlights on ESPN, but Walker is going to be a frustrating handful for most teams because of his quick feet, acceleration, and ability to change direction in tight spaces.
