State is never an easy game cause they always give UM more even in years they do suck but let's not crown them either based off a game against what looks like 3-9 caliber NW team with terrible QB play.
September 3rd, 2021 at 11:49 PM ^
My comment has nothing to do with this game other than the look a lot better than last year

DMac just threw a touchdown pass.
He made a beautiful throw to a receiver had had sat down in the hole in the zone

Msu was bad enough to lose to Rutgers and still beat us last year. They look better this year and will be playing at home in front of a real crowd, that game is going to be a problem unless Michigan is a lot better than most people think

I would put alot of money on NW having the worst QB play in the Big Ten this year or close to it. Kinda crazy when their starter was a former 5* but shows the potential for massive busts with 5* guys. So again lets see how MSU looks against a QB with a pulse before freaking out.

Its nuts because he was the #1 QB recruit in the country
September 4th, 2021 at 1:31 AM ^
Seems like a total abject failure from the recruiting sites, no?
September 3rd, 2021 at 11:49 PM ^
I’m starting to think that Hunter Johnson was rated a five star QB by Bishop Sycamore.
September 3rd, 2021 at 11:53 PM ^
Ridiculous how everyone on here made fun of the Tucker hire. Put a fuckin curse on us all. MSU may win more games than Michigan this season.

Jesus calm down Felicia
September 3rd, 2021 at 11:59 PM ^
Not discounting that as a possibility but it wouldn't be because MSU is having success against a terrible NW team with bad QB play. All it means is MSU is better than a 3-9 kinda team. I expected MSU to be about a 6-6 kinda team and honestly up 14 on a team that looks probably 3-9 caliber seems about right.

what fans say on message boards has zero effect of the outcome on the field...
September 3rd, 2021 at 11:57 PM ^
Johnson must have been a vastly different player in high school because he doesn't have a cannon, his ability to go through reads is poor, pocket presence is poor and he doesn't have very good speed either. Nothing about him really jumps out as the ability you would think the number one recruit in his class would have.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
What’s funny about that is Mac Jones was the 18th ranked qb that year. Davis Mills was ranked number one on the 247 composite. Dylan McCaffrey was number 5 and Sean Clifford who we will play this year at Penn St was number 8. Jake Fromm was number 3. Seems like he either regressed a lot or his high school stats were inflated.

South Dakota State is a good FCS team, but CSU also really shouldn't be trailing them by 3 scores at home. Never understood why CSU hired Addazio in the first place. Supposedly it was because Urban (!!!) recommended him.
Devin Gardner is doing well on the commentary. Lot of energy from him.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:03 AM ^
CSU just seems like a flash in the pan kinda program with the success they had under Sonny Lubick for a brief period. They have kinda sucked besides that.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:58 AM ^
South Dakota State actually plays a good brand of football. They just suffer because they are compared to North Dakota State (who are at a level above everybody else in FCS.)
September 4th, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Northwestern might be the worst team in the conference. Poor defensively, poor QB and little speed on offense.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:21 AM ^
What exactly about Johnson’s play has been poor so far? I haven’t watched much of the game, but he’s completed nearly 70% of his passes, has thrown for 250 yards at a nearly 7 yard per attempt clip, and has 2 touchdowns and no turnovers. Doesn’t scream poor QB play to me. What am I missing?
September 4th, 2021 at 12:28 AM ^
Sometimes statline doesn't tell the full story, majority of his completions have been on open throws to his first read. Been terrible on reads where that is not available. Honestly if I was MSU I would be concerned a first read QB has that kinda statline. They will get absolutely shredded by good QBs.
September 4th, 2021 at 8:38 AM ^
No, but it's silly to say he's garbage after a 25/36 2 TD night. People just throw up some much hoohoo here.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:24 AM ^
Northwestern might be the worst team in the conference
Nebraska is worse.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
If NW could play every offensive snap as if it were 4th down and stop Walker on D, they might keep this respectable.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:16 AM ^
Walker is definitely more talented than their RB's the last couple of years but not sold that MSU's oline looking good is anything other than a product of a really bad looking NW front this year. I think MSU probably goes around 6-6 so that is actually an improvement from last year for them.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:20 AM ^
If MSU is smart, he'll be done for the night...and maybe the only thing that will save NW further embarrassment.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:18 AM ^
Lotta hate on here for Hunter Johnson, but I wouldn't mind 25/36 2TD 0INT from Michigan's QB when we play MSU.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:21 AM ^
Statline does not tell the full story, most of those were on first reads and easy completions. He has been bad anytime he has to come off his first read. Several missed opportunities because of that. It's honestly a good reason why people need to pump the breaks on MSU based on this game. If that is the statline for a QB that can't get through his reads they are going to get absolutely shredded by good QBs.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:41 AM ^
Lol Northwestern breaking out the banging rock playlist while MSU finished beating their heads in.
September 4th, 2021 at 12:47 AM ^
Walker is definitely a good RB with far better big play ability then their recent backs, but we will see how MSU holds up against better teams. Still not sold that their passing game, o-line or their secondary are any good.
September 4th, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
As a MSU fan, I'm pleased to see how many times you posted "pump the brakes" in this thread.
Tuck is coming.
September 4th, 2021 at 9:07 AM ^
Watched only the highlights on ESPN, but Walker is going to be a frustrating handful for most teams because of his quick feet, acceleration, and ability to change direction in tight spaces.

Sparty kicked ass. Tough, well coached, great O and D. Odds on fav to win it all...
