Does this mean BVS might be looking elsewhere? Or is this more so due to the coaching shakeups?
Edit: Haven’t been on MGoBlog all day...missed the BVS transfer rumor lower on the board.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
So much for those in the BVS thread who said his departure would not affect his brother...
February 11th, 2021 at 7:42 PM ^
I'll cop to believing that they would be unrelated, mostly because it's not unreasonable for a guy deep in the depth chart to want to go elsewhere. And honestly, if this is a "package deal" for a school I'm not sure they're going to have a ton of highly-ranked takers.
Wish both of them luck, but unless there was mistreatment at UM I'd be surprised if he left simply to play a year with his brother.
February 11th, 2021 at 8:12 PM ^
I mean it may be trivial to most, but I’m sure some brothers look forward to that immensely. It’s clear that Michigan was in a better place as a program than ASU, yet Josh Christopher wanted a chance to play and be around his brother(Caleb a PG on ASU) again. Especially in these uncertain times, I’m sure not having your family fly around the country visiting kids at 2 different schools play a factor as well.
February 11th, 2021 at 9:08 PM ^
That's a good point. I just wonder what schools would be able to take on a mid-year transfer as well as a top DT as a package. Again, no ill will toward the family and I totally get it.
February 11th, 2021 at 9:14 PM ^
It also may not necessarily be a package deal situation. Perhaps BVS reached a point he couldn’t stay and AVS left too as a show of solidarity. Doesn’t mean they have to play together to stick together.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:16 PM ^
Decommits? Decommits from where? From UM?
February 11th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
UM? Is that Minnesota?
February 11th, 2021 at 7:23 PM ^
Miami (YTM)
February 11th, 2021 at 7:25 PM ^
From Michigan University!
February 11th, 2021 at 7:16 PM ^
Well shit.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:18 PM ^
Of fcking course
February 11th, 2021 at 7:21 PM ^
Could this possibly signal positive momentum on the Walter Nolen front?
February 11th, 2021 at 7:24 PM ^
No his brother just entered the transfer portal so I’m guessing wherever Ben ends up Alex will go there too.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
The two issues don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. I certainly agree that AVS may strongly desire to play where BVS ultimately ends up. At the same time, if he knows Nolen is another target for the staff, and Nolen is strongly considering committing, perhaps that's an additional reason for the decommitment.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:37 PM ^
I would highly doubt recruiting Nolan would cause AV to leave and that his brother’s timing is coincidental.
The Nolan recruiting is a long way off for that matter and you have a lower ranked DT in the class already.
DTs rotate to stay fresh. Good players on the DL love playing with other good players that make them look good and occupy the OL.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:59 PM ^
All very good points you made. I was not trying to disagree with AVS exiting the class because of his brother's transfer. In all likelihood, that is the primary reason. I was merely trying to point out that perhaps with the recent smoke about Nolen, that perhaps AVS knows the staff are going to be adding another DT and doesn't think he fits in anymore. Just another potential reason. You are likely correct when it comes to Nolen's recruitment being far from over.
February 11th, 2021 at 9:04 PM ^
I always appreciate optimism. I was super fired up about Alex’s game. It’s hard to understand how things happen the way they do. I’m hoping like hell this isn’t a McCaffery situation....you can’t make everyone happy and there’s two sides to a story but dang.
February 11th, 2021 at 8:21 PM ^
Or his brother was a primary draw and without him there he’s looking at the total picture and deciding Alabama or Stanford is more appealing to him
February 11th, 2021 at 10:14 PM ^
So AVS going to Alabama, you think Saban would also offer his older brother ? I doubt it. And if BVS is leaving for playing time then unless he goes to a MAC school he sure won't be getting it at Alabama.
February 11th, 2021 at 8:07 PM ^
His brother is a G5 talent and will likely wind up at a G5 school. I’d consider it unlikely for a top-300 player to settle for a G5 school.
February 11th, 2021 at 8:15 PM ^
I think you’re being way too harsh on BVS...plus it wouldn’t shock me in the least to see a bigger school take Ben with the hopes that his brother follows.
February 12th, 2021 at 8:29 AM ^
So it Ben ends up at someplace like CMU that's double win for the Chippewas, but I don't want to jump the shark.
February 11th, 2021 at 9:32 PM ^
I don't know about that, but that video that was posted the other day, wasn't very impressive IMO. His weight gain was around his mid section and he didn't look very athletic. Hey that's just me, but it looked like he had a tire under his shirt.
February 11th, 2021 at 9:32 PM ^
Double post
February 11th, 2021 at 7:22 PM ^
One player does not make a team. The staff will need to re-recruit him and maybe they'll be able to get him back into the fold.
February 11th, 2021 at 11:27 PM ^
Tom Brady says wuuuuutttt???
February 12th, 2021 at 12:39 PM ^
The Tom Brady whose team held the opponent to no touchdowns and had the QB running for his life? Yeah, the rest of the team totally doesn't matter.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:23 PM ^
That was quick on the heels of the news that BVS might be transferring. Now it makes me wonder if something did upset big bro.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:26 PM ^
Maybe BVS transferring means Dixon to Michigan is a done deal?
February 11th, 2021 at 7:26 PM ^
Strange things are afoot at the circle K
This is a huge bummer. The kid seems like a big time player.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:25 PM ^
No idea. But the doomsayers might consider the possibility that the new coaches aren't prioritizing him.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:34 PM ^
Or prioritizing someone else. ?
February 11th, 2021 at 7:29 PM ^
MGoStrength this didnt age well:
February 11th, 2021 at 7:32 PM ^
It didn't age well, but it was also a valid take
February 11th, 2021 at 7:35 PM ^
I mean, it's not an unreasonable take. If the caveat that it's unhappy player treatment involved, then it makes sense why he'd decommit. We don't honestly know either way.
February 12th, 2021 at 2:33 AM ^
I think it was a reasonable take before knowing what we know now, albeit a pretty optimistic one.
When the BVS news broke it seemed relatively likely what would ultimately happen next.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:33 PM ^
Nevermind, apparently BVS leaving does mean something with his brother. Ah well. Wish him luck wherever he winds up
February 11th, 2021 at 10:17 PM ^
He could be saving face for his brother, like Mattison did when Hole fired, he emptied out his office. Only to move back in a week or two later.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:45 PM ^
Since he committed 3 DTs committed in the class before him
February 11th, 2021 at 7:49 PM ^
awwww horseshit.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:56 PM ^
Odd...well, maybe makes sense is if after having seen us land 3 DT this round and now sees the Nolen chatter, that he wants to leave options open in case they do land Nolen.
February 11th, 2021 at 7:58 PM ^
Well that didn't take long to materialize. His brother leaves and he decommits.....
February 11th, 2021 at 8:03 PM ^
Let me guess, their dad coaches at Northern Idaho A&M and they want to play for him.
February 11th, 2021 at 8:10 PM ^
Wonder if they both end up in Arizona?
February 11th, 2021 at 8:16 PM ^
I'm thinking MSU or Indiana.
February 11th, 2021 at 8:44 PM ^
Ben would have to hate us to go to Sparty!
February 11th, 2021 at 8:29 PM ^
It is what it is.
February 11th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
I'm not sure I like your tone.
1. Alex, be sure your to have Ben taste your food before you.
2. AND VLAD, NO POISON! IT'S UNBECOMING. BAD, VLAD! BAD!
