Exit John Beilein. Seriously. Comment Count

Brian May 13th, 2019 at 9:02 AM

I don't even know what to say man. I have stared at this tweet for five solid minutes trying to figure out how someone hacked Woj's account:

Woj then followed that up with a confirming tweet, but we are all asleep and will wake up in 10 minutes and be like "whoah what a weird dream"

Brendan Quinn has confirmed it as well. John Beilein has left a program he turned into a national power to work for Dan Gilbert on one of the worst teams in the NBA. "Stunned" doesn't quite cover it. I just keep typing the start of sentences and deleting them. Reality is no more I am a salad potato

Can anyone understand Cleveland's thinking here?  I mean don't get me wrong, Beilein is great, but by the time he turns around the Cavs (if he does it) he will be 70 years old.  He's only 4 years younger than Popovich, who is constantly hounded with retirement rumors.

Wouldn't you be trying to get yourself a coach for longer term than that?  Even if he's wildly successful (which he likely won't be just due to odds in the NBA) he can't possibly be their head coach for very long.  Seems like a self-limiting move.

Despite this, I still love John Beilein. I really do. Love is where you feel strongly for someone, and put their welfare ahead of your own.

Check.

I am actually more upset for him having to try to win with the Cavs in two years than I am for myself or for Michigan.

Don't get me wrong, Michigan is totally screwed. But somehow, John has managed to screw himself at the same time. I sorta love him even more because he's courageously taken on this impossible challenge of winning games with a horrible roster. Oh yeah, plus he gets Zion, I guess. Anybody think they win more than 40 games in either of the next two years before he's fired? He's the best ever, but nobody can fix this in the time he will have.

All that said, I'd take him back anytime anywhere right now no questions asked. He's the best ever.

Damn it. I have to sort of be a Cavs fan now? Yes. Yes I do.

Tell me it ain’t so, he’s gone.

Gilbert kills two birds with one stone.

Watch, Yaklich goes with him.

triple witching day.

Major bummer.

66 and his stock maybe as high as it can be. I don't hate on it, but I feel like he's uniquely positioned to do what he did at Michigan - not sure what the next coaching philosophy is and as far as the pros, the translation seems odd. But, tempus fugit.

I guess he got fed up with the NCAA not punishing the schools that cheat and teams don't fire coaches that cheat.

He does know that LeBron is gone right?

Stunned just got off work. Michigan fans did it to ourselves by supporting the football team more. I was one that put the basketball team ahead. Coach B did a great job. I just hope we hire a good coach or will be long winter spring. I'm not counting on the football team winning more than 10 games. Go Blue!
