Also, Michigan stays at #1 is SP+. Georgia dropped to #4.
1. Michigan
2. OSU
3. Texas
4. Georgia

My favorite ranking system.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
Passed Washington if you remove projections, too.
October 1st, 2023 at 6:11 PM ^
Why is Connelly putting "??" after TAMU? It's not too far off from his actual rankings (TAMU #11).
October 1st, 2023 at 6:15 PM ^
I think his pre season inclusion takes account of team talent?
October 1st, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
Are you asking a question?
October 1st, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
It does. I'm just wondering about the "??" behind TAMU.
It's like he's saying: "this is why the preseason projections need to be included. TAMU shouldn't be ranked this high!" When, in fact, his model *with* the preseason projections included actually has TAMU rated nearly that high (at #11).

Wazzu and the Beavs are motivated entirely by scorn
October 1st, 2023 at 8:26 PM ^
Wasn't "Wazzu and the Beavs" a Steven Cannell cop show from the 80s about a grizzled veteran detective and his ex-stripper partner?
October 1st, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
And we finally cracked ESPN's FPI top 10! Yayyyyyy!!
The fact that Sagarin has 3 B1G teams in his top four can only mean there is a large asteroid on a direct collision course with earth.

Maryland's rank is #26 and play the bums from Ohio next week.
Kentucky is undefeated and they have a Heisman worthy running back. They play Georgia next. Unfortunately, they don't get much from the QB position.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:40 PM ^
Pump the breaks on UK's RB. Any number of good RBs would look like Heisman candidates if they played Florida.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
No shit. Florida had 13 guys on the field on one goal line play and Kentucky still scored.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Were the extra guys borrowed from Notre Dame?
October 1st, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
The thing about this sort of discussion, it always strikes me, is that the D forms a line. Doesn't matter how long the line is; if you can break through the line at any point, you score. They could have 20 people on that line, and if you exploit the gap between two of the weaker points or with great play-making, it will not matter.

Not sure I'd put Duke or Kentucky ahead of Maryland right now. While I don't think UMD will win next week, I do think they'll put a fright into the tough guys' head...
October 1st, 2023 at 6:25 PM ^
I wouldn't put Duke there, but Kentucky looked pretty dang good against Florida on Saturday. Not sure if it's that Florida is vastly overrated, but they got romped.
October 1st, 2023 at 7:33 PM ^
Agree. Decent chance that if we make it to the playoff we'll be looking at KY or Texas, rather than Georgia. We'll know lots more in a week.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
Go Terrapins, don't turtle.
October 1st, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
I don't see any team that is clearly better than Michigan at this point.
October 1st, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
Agreed
October 1st, 2023 at 3:02 PM ^
Our secondary is looking buns right now. Need to clean that up. If we do, and all other positions sustain, then yes, Michigan is at the top.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
Yes, they are playing so bad we are giving up an average of 6pts a game! Pathetic!
October 1st, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
tough to gauge via weak schedule to date. theyre undefeated though with a talented squad and plenty of time to improve.
missed tackles, lack of pass rush, OT struggles, etc havent really mattered given weak opponents but those issues can/will be magnified vs top competition.
seems thats the point many have been trying to make - while michigans a strong team, in order to reach and ultimately win playoff games, certain weaknesses must be addressed
October 1st, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
It must be really difficult to watch the Wolverines completely defenestrate a P5 team and then have to walk away with a laundry list of problems to worry about.
Are they a perfect team? No, but they are competing to be the best team in the country. It's nice as a fan to be in that position.
I am going to enjoy every damn snap because this team is so much fun to watch. They can win it all, but even if they don't, I am having a blast being along for the ride.
October 1st, 2023 at 6:31 PM ^
It isn't often that something I read baffles me. What does "Looking buns" mean? Or is it supposed to be something else, looking like bums, for instance?
October 1st, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
same thought. and depending on whose buns you're referring to, could be and outstandingly great rating.

In terms of a weakness, we have small receivers. It makes me a little nervous.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
Roman may be "small" but dude has 4 arms and a wingspan of at least 12 feet.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
And he runs faster than anyone trying to cover him...
October 1st, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
Loveland, while technically a TE, plays like a WR. Look at Georgia and what they did with their TE.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
We can also use Edwards as more of a receiver than we have to date.
October 1st, 2023 at 9:28 PM ^
Cornelius Johnson is 6-3
October 1st, 2023 at 10:55 PM ^
Darrius Clemons 6’3”

I'm assuming the one first place vote for OSU comes from someone at the Columbus Dispatch.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
OSU is a dangerous team. They were a makeable field goal from the NC last year (they would have crushed TCU). They have made even more adjustments for us no doubt.
Writing them off evokes some annoying Dantonio pride quote somewhere. We should give them lots of respect until the we're comfortably ahead in the second half in November.

That was with Stroud at QB. I don't think they would have been in that position against Georgia with McCord playing.
Regardless, saying that 2023 OSU is not currently worthy of the #1 ranking =/= writing them off.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:06 PM ^
Dude, it was a joke. Relax.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
This isn’t last year
October 1st, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
You answered my question as I was typing it LOL.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
The Columbus Street News. And Day had to promise a Thanksgiving feast for all concerned.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
Nope, it was the voter from Tough Teams Illustrated.
October 1st, 2023 at 6:54 PM ^
I don't believe so. David Jablonski and David Briggs are the only voting Ohio-based media members. One of them did have OSU second to Texas, but the other actually had Michigan at 1 (the Toledo guy, of course). https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll?voter=David%20Briggs
October 1st, 2023 at 10:33 PM ^
Yes, but Bob Ass-müssen of the Champaign Gazette has us at #4. Shout out to Bob: stick to your knitting and figure out why your hometown. Illini are having such a great season with Burt at the helm.

Amazing to only see 1 SEC in top 10 and only 4 in top 20
October 1st, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
Maybe NIL is making it harder for SEC teams to get all the top talent?
October 1st, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
What you will hear is that the esss eeee seee is sooo good top to bottom, they are just beating each other up.
October 1st, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
Maybe?
October 1st, 2023 at 3:35 PM ^
The SEC is the new Big 12, defense is optional. That LSU game was an abomination.
October 1st, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
But it was fun as hell to watch! Fundamentally unsound, yes, but offense sells advertisements. Actual good football (you know, the football where defense is also a thing), can be boring to casual fans.
