OT: Post Your Lions Mock Draft
Post your Lions mock draft! Here's mine:
I used PFN because PFF has started paywalling theirs.
I don't love the Bijan pick but I didn't like how the board fell in the teens. IMO Mazi would be a perfect fit--would be amazing if we could get him with our first second round pick.
Always pick charles jones lol
Charles of House Sizzle
I honestly have no idea what they're going to do but I trust Brad Holmes.
If I had to make a guess I think they'll select Carter at #6. I'd like Anderson more I think.
They are going to select a bunch of players. Some people will love the players and some people will lose their shit. Most everyone will not know what they are talking about. Brad Holmes seems to have a good handle on drafting so I will assume the players he picks will, for the most part, work out. But there is another shoe out there...
I trust Brad Holmes, but I don't trust that I trust Brad Holmes, if that makes any sense. I think I've just been a lions fan too long to trust anything, lol, but he's been doing a great job so far, and I expect this to continue.
I would be shocked if they don't select a single DB. Two RBs for a team that has a youngish thunder-lightning duo probably isn't gonna happen. Bijan is an insane talent but I think their depth needs in the secondary will trump the offensive talent positions until they feel they have what they need.
Yeah it's more about how this particular one fell. Would love someone like Banks at 18, especially if we get Anderson at 6, but he was gone in this particular scenario.
Pretty sure this is Swift's last year, and what are the chances he will stay healthy for a majority of games? That's why I don't hate going RB.
I got...
I traded out of #6 and accepted Arizona's trade for #34, D. Hopkins, B. Baker, and a 2024 2nd Rounder.
I then traded back up (from #18) to #11 and I drafted Devon Witherspoon.
I traded up again to #27 to nab Bijan Robinson who was slipping in the first round.
I traded up to #31 (from #34) to get Michael Mayer.
...after that, I had to wait awhile.
At #81 I took Noah Sewell. Keep big bro happy.
My final trade up was to #135 where I selected DeMarvion Overshown from Texas. Olu Oluwatimi went 2 picks ahead.
At #159 I selected Mike Morris.
At #180 I got Ronnie Bell.
and finally at #194 I took Max Duggan thinking Campbell had Taysom Hill and we can use him in a short yardage package.
I did have to lose the a 2nd rounder from 2024 (but I got Arizona's) and one of the two 3rd round picks from 2024 to make these trades (I wasn't willing to give up next year's 1st rounder, Arizona's 2nd rounder, and I felt it would be unrealistic to give up both 3rd rounders, so I held onto Minnesota's).
So in 2024, the Lions still have a 1st, 2nd (ARI), and a 3rd (MIN).
I didn't address the OL, but overall I like the haul. The offense is set. The defense gets a top safety in Budda Baker, a CB with the first pick for the Lions, two LBs, and an EDGE. Only thing I'm missing is a DT (missed on Mazi by 20 picks).
Hopkins, Baker, Witherspoon, Robinson, Mayer, Sewell, Overshown, Morris, Bell, and Duggan. Now go win a Super Bowl.
Not a Lions fan, but it seems like Anderson will be gone by 6 (possibly #2).
Lions are in a good spot to trade back for teams who want either Carter, or whichever QB (Stroud/Levis/Richardson) slips to 6. Nice spot to be when you're at 6 and there are 4 QBs, Carter, and Anderson. I'm hoping one of those 6 fall to my Bears at 9 so they can trade back, but the Lions are guaranteed to have one of those 6 as an option at pick 6.
I'm in the Chicago area so I pay attention to the Bears. Do you think Poles will ever get serious about the trenches?
I really hope they have an opportunity to trade back from 9. From what I gather, there isn't a slam-dunk OL prospect that is worthy of picking at 9, but there are a handful of solid guys that will be available in the teens and 20's. If he can trade down and still end up with one of those guys, and add a 2nd-4th rd pick in the trade-down process, that's a slam dunk IMO. Either way, I do think he goes OL with his first pick -- whenever that is.
Just listened to the latest Kiper / McShay podcast about the draft. The scenario of Anderson sitting there at 6 is becoming very real (of course anything can happen).
Their consensus on the Top 5 are:
1) Carolina - Young - Bama
2) Texans - Tyree Wilson - Texas Tech - Kiper/McShay noted the Texans have been looking at Hooker very closely and given they have the 12th pick as well.... This is why they pass on CJ
3) Zona - Trade for Richardson - Tennessee?
4) Colts - Levis - Kentucky
5) Seattle - Ole tricky Pete loves to take those elite players even if they have questionable character - Carter - UGA
6) Lions - Here is Will Anderson AND CJ Stroud (personally I pass on CJ but I will admit my Michigan fandom gets in the way)
I don't get why everyone is so high on a Hooker. He is 24 almost 25 coming off a minor injury so had to sit for a year. Played in one of the worst offenses to translate to the NFL and was beat out by Joe Mixon less the 2 years ago. Granted his numbers are good but he is already 3 years older then Trevor Lawrence. To me just isn't worth a first round pick. Maybe I am wrong but I am not the only one who has been saying this
I don't understand why people are so hung up on hooker's age. It's not like he's 35.
It's way sexier to draft the next Zach Wilson than the next Brandon Weeden.
You're hung up if you're the Lions because if you draft a QB, it's not to play him this year.
So Hooker would be 27 if he ever took over from Goff.
If the Lions draft a QB early, it's got to be Richardson. I'm not saying do it (I wouldn't)...but he's the only play that makes sense taking and stashing for a year. But you better be sure he's Pat Mahomes 2.0 in 2024.
Agree on Anderson he should be gone. But the Lions should be able to get Carter, Anderson or Wilson at 6 which is what I would do if the Lions think Carter passes the mental test.
agree with this. if the lions can trade down and get a late first rounder plus a second rounder, i would like that. take an edge rusher in the first and another wr in the 2nd. then best talent available to fill holes.
It COULD happen. Some folks have Wilson over Anderson, and there could be a big run on QBs, including Richardson.
first round is DB and DL
second is WR and ?
IF they grab the CB / DL combo in the 1st round, then...
2nd round -
TE (Washington is preferred) and WR
3rd round -
OG
I'm hoping for Carter at 6 and a CB at 18. Lots of good options at CB. Someone like Porter or Banks could be there at 18. I'm assuming Gonzales and Witherspoon would be gone.
Mazi would be great but I doubt he's there at 48. I'm guessing he goes ~35. Could be worth the trade up if they don't get a DT in the 1st.
I don't know Felix well, but a DE in the 2nd makes sense. In your example with Anderson at 6, I wouldn't take another DE so high. But if they go with DT and CB in the 1st, getting a DE in the 2nd would be nice.
Other positions I'd target with the 5 top 3 round picks would be OG, WR, and LB.
Doubling up @ edge and RB seems a bit out there. But not near as much as tripling up at DT without addressing the secondary. Gardner-Johnson is only on a 1 year deal.
2 DEs when they took 3 DEs last year? Not sure that's great roster management.
Solid draft. Getting Benton is a bit redundant with Mazi, I'd rather get a WR there, particularly AT Perry if he's available.
The last couple rounds could be used for S/T players, too. LBs and CBs that are specialists and Jake Moody.
Here's how mine went. (I only went three rounds.)
I like the 1st round a lot. But then 4 straight offensive players? Seems kinda dumb for a team that still needs way more help on defense than offense
I don't think the defense is as bad as it seems, it was middle of the pack the last 10 games, and with FA and a couple DBs and the best interior D-Lineman it should only be better.
That being said, no way Porter falls that far.
Washington is more like an athletic OL than he is a hybrid WR ala our very own Colton Loveland
Bro yours doesn't count you made like 3 additional picks for them to get. 57 87 and 89. Not really realistic. Thought we are going for a realistic approach?
If a team values a player, they're willing to overspend. I must admit the trades PFN offers can be a little one-sided at times
Washington at 55 would be a dream come true. I tried to trade up to snag him but was rejected multiple times. Here's what I wound up with:
Detroit Lions
-
6.
Will Anderson Jr.
EDGE Alabama
-
18.
Deonte Banks
CB Maryland
-
48.
Mazi Smith
DT Michigan
-
55.
Jalin Hyatt
WR Tennessee
-
81.
Noah Sewell
LB Oregon
-
145.
Tyjae Spears
RB Tulane
-
152.
Luke Schoonmaker
TE Michigan
-
183.
Andrew Vorhees
OG USC
-
194.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson
QB UCLA
-
226.
Jake Moody
K Michigan
You were on a roll, you shoulda kept going, lol!
Obviously a few too many trade downs which won't happen IRL, but I'd be stoked with this
I love the trade downs, but it has been noted the Lions roster (shockingly) is pretty set right now. Even with the 9 picks, there is little chance all 9 would stick.
I love trading down and doing a draft like you have here. I even focus on particularly getting draft capital for next years draft.
While there is almost a zero percent chance of getting either Williams - USC or Maye from UNC, I would love to have plenty of draft capital to be able to move around in the 1st round to get someone like Penix or Hartline
LOL.
I wanted Sewell as well, and Moody didn't last to 200 in my draft either.
Sewell is ranked like a 6th rounder in many other mock drafts. Also Holmes most likely won't waste a pick on a LB before 4th or 5th round.
Nice...there must have been some interesting trades! Penei is gonna be happy.
Would have taken Ronnie Bell over Jones. Depending who was still available would not have picked Benton would have taken Schoonmaker or a TE or a WR depending who was available. Spears is most likely gone by 4th round but if we can get him in the 5th awesome. With the last pick go with Moody over a DT. 3 in This draft is to many. This draft you got Anderson making it to 6th which I don't see happening. And Bijan is a steal at 18 but have a feeling he will be gone also.
Everybody has a good to great mock; it's getting to where if Mr. Holmes doesn't do great we're all going to be upset, lol
Double post. My bads
My pants might have a little less space in them if we landed the OP's draft....
Potato goes in the front.
Andre Ware, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Joey Harrington, Aaron Gibson...
Wait, did you mean mock as in "to tease or laugh at," or mock as in "artificial and hypothetical"???
Behave
Ask Matt Millen who he would draft and then do the exact opposite.
My team is picking Deshaun Watson again. He might actually play some games too so that's a plus.
Trade #6
18 - Bryan Bresee - DT (Clemson)
34 - Michael Mayer - TE (ND)
48 - Jack Campbell - LB (Iowa)
55 - Clark Phillips III - CB (Utah)
81 - Zach Evans - RB (Ole Miss)
152 - Parker Washington - WR (PSU)
159 - Riley Moss - CB (Iowa)
183 - Xavier Henderson - S (MSU)
194 - Dorian Thompson-Robinson - QB (UCLA)
I like that DTR pick. Nice flyer to take.
Hell no. Breeze isn't worth it and Mayer isn't either. Clemson guys lately on defense have all been busts. I like Campbell but Holmes doesn't like drafting Lbs before Rd 4. Moss isn't bad Kipper has him as a CB and his top 5 guy I think.
