Alex Vansumeren Commits to Sparty

Noteworthy since Vansumeren was committed to Michigan at one point. Obviously he wouldn't be going to MSU if his brother saw the field in Ann Arbor, but it looks like we will be doing battle in the trenches with him in the coming years(unless he goes elsewhere before signing day).

I'm sure this will sound like sour grapes, but when he was still committed to UM I asked several local peoples (I live not far from Essexville) to break down his game because I wanted to be excited.

What I often heard was that he was bigger and stronger than the competition and relied almost exclusively on that, taking off lots of plays a disappearing on the field when he was disinterested. I'm sure the Sparty chip on the shoulder will allow him to go off against UM, but otherwise this doesn't feel like a blow.

This is not surprising news.  I bet he starts or contributes within a year or two, already up to 300 lbs.  Doubt he will be All-B1G or anything though.  Nice pick-up by Sparty, a 4* and #180 Natl ranked player.

Will we defeat Sparty at East Landfill this year?

Magnanimity is overrated.

I'm not happy about this at all.  I don't wish the kid well.

When MSU leads the nation in outgoing transfers, of course he is going to get playing time.

What a joke.

Oh well, you win some and you lose some recruits.  May be if we play better than our projected 7-5 record we can land some higher ranked DLs and DBs. Good luck to him but I'm thinking @ MSU will be one of our toss up games.

I was really excited when we landed BVS and he was on the field because I went to Essexville Garber.  Its pretty extraordinary news locally for not one but two players from a really small school like that to be recruited by P5 schools.  But unfortunately it seemed like every time he was on the field he was looking for his lost golf ball or something like I used to do on the ditch side of the #2 hole at Bay County Golf Course.
