Judd is definitely a loss, but from what I hear it was a mutual split between him and JP. Judd was also their biggest recruiter so it'll definitely be interesting to see who they bring in.
Went to the game and thought it was kind of what I expected. Was pleasantly surprised by a couple of underclassmen but other than Yealy, the offense seemed to be overwhelmed by the physicalness and experience of Detroit's D. They also ran into a pretty good goalie too.
Broschart mentioned Michigan's D needed a lot of work and he was right. Detroit didn't look like they had more talent, but their they caught michigan's D flat-flooted and staring at the ball a few times.
Also Michigan's face-off unit was really subpar. Crappy enough that they tried to use Yealy as a wing later in the game.
Lots to work on, but I think the most positive thing was that the talent level was there.
I have a few friends that have coached against Cass Tech and they both said Jourdan Lewis was the best player on the field hands down. It'll be interesting to see where his rankings end up.
transfers aside...I anticipate next year's depth chart at LB to be something like this.
SAM - Jake Ryan, Cam Gordon, Brennen Beyer
MIKE - Kenny Demens, Mike Jones, Joe Bolden
WILL - Desmond Morgan, Brandin Hawthorne, Antonio Poole
Kind of up in the air if the rest of the frosh LB's are redshirted. Early enrollees are usually rewarded w/ at least special teams action. (Bolden and Ringer are both likely to enroll early)
Also, something to look for is if Jake Ryan and Brennen Beyer actually stay at SAM. As RVB, MM, and WIll H. depart, there are some big spots to fill on the DLine. Could easily see Jake Ryan and/or Brennen Beyer adding more weight and playing w/ their hand in the dirt more often. Which would make room for Cam Gordon to see more action (since the coaches apparently loved him before the injury).
It's hard but not impossible, my g/f swam at Pioneer and she was offered a near full ride at EMU and she had a couple of her teammates get full rides to other schools.
to add to the whole renaissance topic, I've personally talked to Criswall. He told me all that stuff out there about RR treating him and Carson bad was b/s.
it seems pretty obvious to me that the guy is a Spartan blow-hard with a strong anti-Michigan agenda.
they record the promos the day before whether they are going to be on or not. usually it'll say something like "hey tomorrow mike's not here but..." also the ones you hear before the show are done the day before too. so even though it says "hey today we're gonna talk about..." it was done the day before.
I wouldn't be surprised if he did have this day planned off. usually he doesn't avoid this sort of stuff. yes he's a douche, but he has mindset of not backing down (whether its based in reality or not).
I suppose it would be unreasonable to say there aren't any Michigan fans that spend too much time worrying about MSU...but I think it's fair to say there are more on the other side. Here's a difference I see allllll the time (and not just with msu). When Michigan loses I immediately see 6 texts from sparty fans rubbing it in. When MSU loses I don't immediately think "hey I better call my msu friend and remind him how much his team blows"
I actually don't have a problem with the university...truthfully I think msu is pretty good in most areas, and outstanding in a few. MY problem though is with the MSU, green-goggle wearing, michigan-obsessed fans. Every time I find myself happy for a school from Michigan doing well, a sparty fan takes a jab at Michigan and I get reminded why it's so hard to root for them. If it wasn't for their fans, MSU would be fine by me
wasn't saying march = guaranteed playoff success. WAS saying that it's important. and i AM saying that you're off when you said it has little to do w/ how a team does in the playoffs. I believe you're wrong, and that it has a lot more than a little to do w/ playoff performance. especially for a team thats struggled throughout the year, and double especially for a team thats kinda-sorta getting healthy for the 1st time in a long while. Playing well just before the playoffs for the redwings is only a good sign for the playoffs.
I really couldn't think of any other recent UofM player that would be more tailor-made for beilein's offense. Hunter was well above average from outside for a big man.
awesome for him and michigan. presuming he avoids the injury bug that plagues him, the eagles D is constantly talked about throughout the sports networks.
we'll see how the Q & A goes afterwards...maybe should pull a Tiger so the goons @ the freep can't start anything. I hope they outright denounce the findings from the freep, and make them look as bad as possible.
there are some that want to bash the guy for being emotional but I feel as though its a good thing. People lead in different ways. Lloyd was stoic and consistent, Bo was fiery and competitive, and I think RR has shown that he's passionate, hard working, and relentless. I really feel like he posted his stake in the ground and wanted it to be clear he's here for all the right reasons
I've seen a few having him go mid 2nd round...and a few undrafted...and a few mid 2nd round next year. It's obvious that his stock has taken a hit. Staying would be best for everyone in the long run.
haha no but what's worse is I was thinking 2 years from now as if it was already 2011. take out fitz...put in demens. take out demens, put in hawthorne
If he left now he'd be destined for the NBDL for a while. Before the season started it looked like there'd be no way Manny would stay but there probably won't be many who give him anything more then a late 2nd round grade.
the thing before the spring practice is the night of the champions. some recruits are invited yea but its not a junior day. the bbq at the big house is in may and again its a recruiting event but not a junior day. junior days are specifically designated for juniors only. theres also 7on7 tournies and camps, but kids from any grade can come. not trying to beef w/ you here...just defending my original point
If you think I'm wrong...give me the dates. I can give you the dates and names of the other events that are NOT Junior days, rather football events if you want?
Seems to be a good idea...can't hurt to do even more research..especially from an outside perspective. As long as it doesn't drag out too long, using all your resources is a good thing. This decision will (obviously) impact the conference, not to mention other conferences, greatly.
I'd say usually you're right about bigger WR's blocking, but I'd argue with you right now that Odoms is Michigan's best run blocker. Maybe an anomaly but just b/c youre big, doesn't mean you can block (carson butler)
but I wouldnt be surprised if that number is a little low...koger was about 225 coming out of hs and I'd assume this guy could be around 200-210. I think the TE in RR's offense is more like a flex hybrid type WR/TE...either way I still say the kid has big ten skills w/ MAC speed
obviously he isnt the fasted dude in the world but his ball skills and size can't be challenged. I'd say TE maybe...looks pretty physical. Either way I think it's sort of risky...but I trust the judgment of coaches.

My wife and I got married at Earhart Manor over on Concordia's campus. Has a good mix of indoor/outdoor. Can't say a bad thing about it.
According to my wife, who played for Matt, this was less of a stepping down and more of a pushing out. Brandon wants championships at every level.
Who is the giant on the field taking those pictures?

awesome stuff blueseoul, thanks for making my wednesday afternoon a good one.
Terrance Talbott w/ #37? not sure how that's possible b/c Jake Ryan is #37 as well and they're both on D.
What an embarassment (regarding Frank Beckmann). I feel foolish for supporting him.

for whatever its worth frank has been told he'll be a LB
you shouldn't worry...the two spots were actually decided a bit ago, and you'll be happy with them. (or should be)

roy roundtree and mike martin are saying denard will stay.
yes...and yes. Don't you think there's a bit of a difference between those and basketball?
don't agree with most of his points of views but I wish him well.
