I fear Penn St. in Happy…

I fear Penn St. in Happy Valley more than I fear Ohio St, at the Big House.

Don’t drink coffee myself,…

Don’t drink coffee myself, but even I know the only good coffee comes from freshly ground beans. So unless you use the Keurig refillable cups, actually grind your own beans, and keep the machine clean it won’t return a good cup of coffee.

Cal. Tech. is far superior…

Cal. Tech. is far superior to Michigan. Cal. Poly SLO academics are adequate to transfer to UCLA and Cal. Berkley superior academic schools to Michigan so academics shouldn’t be a problem. I attended both Michigan and Cal. Poly SLO but it was 20-30 years ago. At that time the difficulty of the academic was basically the same, but Cal. Poly SLO teaching style was much more student friendly.

Jim Harbaugh's flirtations…

Jim Harbaugh's flirtations with the NFL will continue to seriously hurt Michigan recruiting. No kid want to go to a school where the coaching staff bales on them. Along with a ridiculously feeble NIL implementation make Michigan a hard sell. I hope they get the portal working otherwise this flash of success will be short lived.

If I had to choose between…

If I had to choose between coming out fast and then fading or coming out slow and then shifting gears I would choose the later every time. But I think it will take more than two good quarters to beat Ohio St. and I know it will take more to win in the playoffs.

We were getting 4 & 5 star…

We were getting 4 & 5 star WR and had minimal passing game we now only get 3 & 4 star WR and still have a minimal passing game. If you are other than a blocking WR or TE why on earth would you come to U of M?

Players go where they will learn the game the NFL plays. Harbaugh doesn’t seem to understand that. I love Michigan, but except for the education Michigan doesn’t have much to offer playmakers. If education is your only goal there are also better options. Stanford, Cal. Berkley, and Northwestern being a few.

One thing we know about NFL…

One thing we know about NFL scouts and coaches they are no better at assessing talent than the average well informed fan.

How many Black head coaches…

How many Black head coaches are in the league and how many mediocre White ones are there. You are naïve in thinking it is a pure meritocracy nothing ever is.

Then why go to college at…

Then why go to college at all? Just play basketball.

There is only one reason you…

There is only one reason you would object to this. Any other top level NFL quarterback ex player of a head coach would be welcomed with open arms. If you object to Harbaugh inviting Kaepernick being an honorary captain. It says far more about you than it does about him.

Houston is a shooter who can…

Houston is a shooter who can’t  consistently shoot. So what exactly does he give the team when he isn’t hitting? Five stars or not, play the players who give you the best chance to win.

Wasn’t Gattis a co-offensive…

Wasn’t Gattis a co-offensive coordinator at Alabama when Michigan hired him? So coming to Michigan with Harbaugh’s fingers still heavily on the offense can at best be considered a lateral move. I don’t see the great opportunity unless Sabin was planning on getting rid of him.

We will probably never know…

We will probably never know the real reasons Gattis is leaving, but that the offense looked much more like a Harbaugh offense than what we were told Gattis was bringing to Michigan might have a lot to do with it.

Remember it isn’t just…

Remember it isn’t just season tickets it is the quality of the season ticket seats. If a scalper is monopolizing dozens of high quality season tickets then others can move up. So i understand their reasoning the lovers of the school who make the real donations should be able to get the better quality season ticket over time and not be locked out by scalpers.

We need to give credit to…

We need to give credit to Cade McNamara this team reflects his coolness under fire. Make a mistake forget about it and just keep moving forward. Cade might not put up Stroud like numbers, but he provides the leadership this team needs. The kids may not have a 5* skill set, but he’s got 5* leadership down.

The only half Cade has been…

The only half Cade has been bad in is after he took the roughing the passer/targeting hit. He went from 8 for 10 to 1 for 6. I don’t think Rutgers is even capable of improving their pass defense that significantly. Either he either lost confidence, was afraid of getting hit again, or was hurt. We will see this Saturday he should have gotten over a minor concussion, but if he lost confidence or is fearful in the pocket it will show. I hope JJ is ready in case.

How do you figure Washington…

How do you figure Washington is decent? When all evidence points to the contrary?

It all depends on what your…

It all depends on what your aspirations for this team are? If as we frequently proclaim the Big Title is our goal this game while a win was disappointing in some aspects. If Washington had crushed their FCS opposition a week ago people would be happier, but since they actually lost they have to be considered a weak opponent. As how much we jumped in the polls confirms. Beating a weak opponent is expected not being able to muster a passing game isn’t. More than likely Wisconsin, Penn State, and even Michigan State will seriously hamper our running game what will we fall back on? A passing game that we haven’t actually used in game? How has that worked out for anyone ever? If your aspirations are 7-5 or even 8-4 for a rebound year and a middle of the road bowl you should be more than happy. Michigan looks more than capable of reaching those mediocre goals, but if your goal is a Big Championship we have a lot of work to do and not only on the practice field. If we don’t get our quarterbacks a lot of in game passing experience the next two games before we visit Wisconsin we are setting ourselves up for failure.

With the loss of Ronnie Bell…

With the loss of Ronnie Bell the Michigan passing games needs all the in game experience it can get. Not throwing the ball much more in this game will be very costly later in the season when they can’t run as easily on the Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State, and Ohio State.

When the running game is going well it is the perfect opportunity to throw in a large does of play action. Michigan wasted the opportunity. As has happened during all of Harbaugh’s tenure this will be Michigan’s weakness come October and November.

The lack of a passing game…

The lack of a passing game or even an attempt at a passing game are very worrisome. I don’t buy the rational that Michigan didn’t want to go against two capable CB. They didn’t have a problem going against two capable interior DL. You get good at what you do. If Michigan doesn’t throw against its weaker competition if definitely won’t be able to against the tougher. We have seen this script every year and it is getting old. Michigan runs over its weaker competition and then when it plays someone who can shut down its running game they get pasted. I expect Wisconsin, Penn. St., Ohio State, and maybe even Michigan State to to go all out to shut down Michigan’s running game and make them pass to win. It will be the same recipe for success they have used against Michigan now for several years

There has probably never…

There has probably never been a more stacked team in all of college athletics. I hope they can realize their potential and win it all despite the pressure.

Good luck Wolverines.

Well written opinion. I…

Well written opinion. I always find it interesting that I find some of the best writing on a Michigan sports blog. This is a sad issue that I am sure everyone wished had never happened. The only acceptable recourse is a thorough investigation and accounting and to help the victims.

Either there are a lot of…

Either there are a lot of both men and women who have been abusing young men all over this country for years or prostate exams for young men used to be common place. In my time in the military from the ages of eighteen through twenty four I had at least four digital prostate examinations all by different doctors both men and women all over this country. Was each of those doctors abusing me?

Poorly written article they make it sound like the abuse was a standard digital prostate exam that were common for young men in the 1970s and 1980s. To understand it wasn’t just the standard digital prostate exams and standard hernia exams read the linked ESPN story.

I don’t see the logic of…

I don’t see the logic of preventing a player from renouncing his scholarship. So I am sure if the need arises it would be available. I don’t think the need ever will, as I see plenty of players leaving early those that play to the NBA those that don’t to greener pastures.

I think we became a…

I think we became a basketball school when we finally got two great coaches in a row. Anyone can get one good coach, but now it appears we can attract good coaches.

Great! The quality and…

Great! The quality and imagination of the writing never ceases to amaze me. Far better than any mainstream media. Bravo!

Can help but rewatch each…

Can’t help but rewatch each play multiple times to enjoy much improved power run blocking.

Experience in the league…

Experience in the league means more than winning or history or anything else. Howard has NBA street cred something Beilein never had and most college coaches don’t have. Do you want someone who can just get you there or someone who can teach you how to be a successful player when you are there?

I think the fear factor for…

I think the fear factor for Wisconsin should be higher. Last year we beat a decimated Wisconsin at home with as much help as they could give us. Don’t expect the same thing this year. I would make Michigan at least a touchdown underdog.

Peterson missed on many…

Peterson missed on many throws definitely not a top tier college quarter back if that is all we can expect. If you are a Michigan fan you saw what Haskins did to Michigan the last two years that is what a top tier quarterback needs to be able to do. While he made some nice throws his consistency is not what it needs to be to win the Big 10 East much less go to the playoffs.

It is irrelevant if they win…

It is irrelevant if they win a lawsuit. All the best players in every sport would move to California and probably PAC 12 schools. That would make a two tier college athletic system the good one the California and probably PAC 12 schools and the second tier the rest of the country. How do you imagine that plays out? Who do you think gets all the money then? The NCAA has no choice but to capitulate.

Some one that gets it.

Some one that gets it.

If California schools allow…

If California schools allow athletes to profit from their talents where exactly do you think all the best players would be headed. California schools and probably all the PAC 12 would become the best college basketball in the country and the rest of the country would become their farm teams. You people have no imagination.

Not thinking long term. If…

Not thinking long term. If California passes this law and the NCAA tries to somehow punish schools for following the law, California courts will find against the NCAA. So assume the NCAA plays hardball and kicks every California school out of the NCAA. Since the PAC 12 is dominated by California schools the whole division would probably leave the NCAA. Now if you’re an athlete you have a choice to go to the PAC 12 that lets you benefit from your talents while the NCAA doesn’t. How do you think that is going to work out for the NCAA. The vast majority of the most talented athletes will head to the PAC 12 and they will become the dominant college experience in the country their champions will be considered the national champion and the NCAA will loose any authority it presently has as every serious athletic programs wants to level the playing field.

The winning pitcher actually…

The winning pitcher actually still gets the shutout win.

Actually there are non…

Actually there are non-complete game shutouts. Starting pitcher gives up no runs then the relief(s) do likewise.

Great writing and great game.

Great writing and great game.

If this comes to fruition I…

If this comes to fruition I think it will eventually be seen as Michigan’s best basketball hire ever. John Beilein was a very good hire, but stealing a good coach from a University with fewer resources and giving him more resources is a recipe for gradual improvement, which isn’t bad. This has the potential of being hiring Harbaugh instead of Rodriguez. Howard always struck me as the consummate professional and I think he has a real chance of getting Jalen Wilson back in the fold.

Michigan fans are delusional…

Michigan fans are delusional. Michigan will never compete at the level of Alabama and Clemson. Michigan has too many negatives, rigorous academics, cold climate, and no national or top quality local recruiting base. Michigan hasn't been on the level of Alabama and Clemson in almost a hundred years fans need to realize we aren't ever going to get back there. It would take a coach who can recruite, develop, and game day coach better than any other coach and it just isn't going to happen. Also winning the Big Ten isn't as easy as it was several other schools have developed or joined the league with great football traditions. Welcome to the new normal.

While a win is a win…

While a win is a win. Remember this is a Wisconsin team that just gave up 518 yards to Nebraska the week before. We weren’t playing a typical Wisconsin defense. Michigan State’s defense will be a much tougher test next weekend. Michigan’s defense looked great against a very very good Wisconsin offensive line. While they didn’t stop Taylor they did slow him down. I wonder, we saw so much less of him in the second half he is definitely their most powerful weapon running behind that offensive line. He got four plus yards on almost every carry. I thought their plan was to just grind our defense down, but I guess they were forced to go away from it, due to the score. Their depleted defense just wasn’t up to that game plan. The pass rush was just good enough to get into Hornibrook’s head and our secondary played out of their mind’s. I think that might have been the best I’ve seen a secondary play in quite some time. Watson has really come on and Hill and Long are as good or better than anyone.

One thing that really worries me is our red zone offense, attempting five field goal against a defense as depleted as Wisconsin’s is not a good sign. If we don’t get a lot better at it better defenses will make us pay for it. We won’t be able to get away with it at Michigan State next weekend. I think if we attempt five field goals against Michigan State our defense will have to win the game for us.

This game reminds me of Penn…

This game reminds me of Penn St 2016 when they had all the injuries to their linebackers and we won handly. 45-13 Michigan.

Skiing in Michigan He looks like a pretty good skier for his size. Olympic skiers are usually pretty small and light especially for moguls. Surprised he didn't try for a school with better access to good skiing.
Rashan Gary Gary has been more than fine. He is one of the main reasons others are getting the stats. If you are a coach do you risk your quarterback getting hit by a man who weights 290 who runs a sub 4.6 forty? No; the others may be getting TFLs and sacks, but if Rashan gets a clean hit on your quarterback you may loose him. That is why they are still double and triple teaming him even though Bush and Winovich are killing the stats. It is also the best and only choice other coaches can make.
