Watching the game on TV, you could clearly hear the buzzer before Craft let it go. Same with the Stauskas follow up. What I want to know is why the refs weren't able to review it. It seemed to me that Beilein was asking for a review. Do the rules not allow a review for a shot clock violation? I thought they could check it at the next stoppage in play.
My takeaway is that from 2005 until now, it seems that Rivals is getting more accurate with their high-star ratings. I would imagine their process and better access to internet videos has improved their ratings system. There's a lot of unrated NFL drafted running backs in 2006; not so much in 2012.
I don't agree with Gardner/Robinson/Jackson/Chesson/Darboh == Junior Hemingway, at all. Some guys just have a knack for grabbing jump balls and I'd be shocked if any of our current receivers do it as well as Junior did this year.
To MGoBlog, I think the most important football players have been Mike Hart, Brandon Graham, and Mike Martin. I'll join the argument that Zoltan has been a big part of this blog, too. Manningham provided big moments and Long was overall their best player, but I'm not sure they resonate with the Blog like the first three I mentioned. Denard will be a lock when eligible, obviously.
Am I the only person still high on Vogrich? I have a gut feeling that Vogrich will start at the 2, with THJ at the 3, at least to start the year. I've always thought that Vogrich's biggest problem is that he hasn't seen consistent minutes to get in a shooting rhythm. Starting a senior over a freshman (GRIII, 5* or not) is something I expect from Beilein early on.
A main reason I like the brighter maize is that there is a general trend in recruiting towards flashier colors, uniforms, etc. High school kids want to stand out and our "brighter" maize basketball uniforms do exactly that. The old-school maize is not as exciting.
It seems at this point that the I-formation should really only be used as a small mix-up to our shotgun spread. What I would like to see is less drawn-out waggle plays forcing Denard to stay in the pocket and throw over big defenders and more sprint-out plays that move the pocket and give Denard a throw-run option. The throwback screen is a part of this package. Forcing Denard to sit in the pocket and make three reads is not the way this offense will succeed and fully utilize the dilithium.
I'm curious about people's opinion. Was Gibbons just a case of a recruitment bust, or was it a lack of special teams coaching? It would be quite the story if Gibbons beats out Wile and kicks well this year.
With two highly rated "shifty" backs coming in, hopefully one of them can become an elite returner as a freshman and sophomore. With our stable of backs and slots, someone has to emerge next year as a good returner, right?
The only time I get angry with Denard not scrambling is on 3rd and short. It seems like we always pass on 3rd down and 2 to 5 yards to go. In this case, I'd rather see an obvious, quick first and second read. If it's not there immediately, use the dilithium and get the 1st down.
I now have to watch all games in my basement because I'm confident my neighbors and their children hear the nasty foulness that has come out of my mouth watching the last three games. My wife had an intervention-like talk with me last night about what it's like to watch Michigan games with me lately. You could say I need a win real bad.
It's seeming more and more obvious to go for every 4th and less than ten when close to midfield and to only kick field goals when inside the 20 and 4th and more than ten. So yeah, we should go for it on 4th down a lot.
Hopefully being able to see will make all the difference. If Stonum just had Hemingway's ability to adjust to the deep ball, we will really have something.
Totally agree that the stats can be misleading. I appreciate the effort to compile the stats, but I'm not sure that a cornerback's tackle numbers have anything to do with their overall performance. I would be willing to bet that the best corners with high reputations have less tackles than their weaker teammate.
As a punt returner in high school, it took all of my concentration to just catch the damn thing. Most of the time I caught it and just fell over. We should obviously be holding big-time college athletes to a higher standard, but by no means is catching a punt easy.
I always give the Gopher fans here a hard time about calling Minnesota the U of M. I also like to throw in, "Oh, you went to Miami?" when they say they went to "the U."

Really enjoyed the read. Fits like a glove with the content typical to MGoBlog.

I'd vote for Novak and Sims. The thought of Morris, Manny, and Horton leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Can we vote for two players?

"Even though the reason why I'm going to Michigan right now is for football, I have to get ready for after the NFL, so it's a great place to be."
Love that quote. He's a confident kid.
More importantly, I would love to see the bigger block M back on the basketball shorts.

We are very lucky to have this site and the work ethic needed to put this level of breakdown together. Thank you!

Nailed it. Impressive.
I'm pretty proud of myself for my prediction here. I was SO close.
Michigan Wins 34-30. A Denard rushing TD with under a minute to go in the 4th Q seals it.
I keep RBUAS on my RSS feed and click on his site every so often to make sure I didn't miss a new post. A pleasant surprise on this Tuesday afternoon.
Morris, Hardaway Jr., Smotrycz, and Morgan looks like a very nice core in two years.
a man amongst boys in his highlight video. Would be very nice to see local kid become a star in Ann Arbor.
I really enjoyed that video; I probably had a goofy smirk on my face the whole time. Congrats to Mr. Morris. He played one helluva game.

That's an incredible amount of work Brian just put in. Thanks dude.

I was going to ask the same thing; can we recruit Dr. Phillips kicker as well?

Denard and Dee Hart together could sure be exciting. One of the main reasons I want Rich Rod around next year.

Certainly we have a rich Michigan Alum here willing to do that, right?
Do you think it would help to have every MGoUser email that video to Dave Brandon?
