Sorry

I'm sure this is somehow my fault for critisizing Hoke and not the recruiting or offensive playcalling, or the crappy season we had.  So, sorry everyone!

That's painful

I don't understand why it should take 5 years to fully evaluate a coach.  5 years!  The current AD just fired one after 3 years and suddenly we won't know if Hoke is for real for FIVE years?

That's depressing that we could waste 5 years and start looking for a new coach and have to start this process all over again.

Ugh.

I like...

I like how suddenly we're not able to critisize the current head coach because it might damage the future of our program.   God forbid!

2015?

The fans, including myself, will be wild if 2014 is a repeat of 2013.  Next year is Hoke 4th year.  He ran out of excuses last year for me, and this year for a lot of other fans.

You'll see full on mutiny if next season isn't a solid season with a win over OSU.

Also

Also, he could be flat out better the Gardner, but Hoke may not start him in deference to Gardner's status.  We just don't know.

A few comments...

I agree with you about switching systems.  It's a big change and it's a difficult transition.

However, your attitude towards a spread offense is very telling.  Using phrases like 'big boy football' and 'resort ... to the spread' indicates you view the spread and inferior by nature.  It's not.  It's a method of scoring points and moving the ball.  A great spread team is just as potent as a great pro style offense.  They both have their positives and negatives.

The fact is that this coaching staff is refusing to play to their CURRENT rosters strengths because, like you, they believe their system is 'better'.  It's not, otherwise we would be better then 7-5 and we would have played every game like the OSU game.

I currently live in New England and let me tell you that watching the New England Patriots each weekend is a pleasure.  They adapt their gameplan each week to their opponents.  One week it's power running, the next week might focus on quick passes, or 5 WR sets.  There's none of this silly notion that if they go power running one week, that they are suddenly a better team then when they spread out the defense the week before.

I disagree I think you're seeing a lot of acceptance amongst the fan base and many are happy to wait as hope we get better. A lot of people are happy with this seasons output and are content with the status quo for 2014.
You mean the OSU loss?

Yes, I mean actions.  Actions like 7-5, not competing for titles.

You know, actions like winning.

Standards

Standards.

Some schools have them.  Other's don't.

We don't.

You're trying...

Some coaches (and I know this will shock you so hold on) play to the strengths of their team.

I know, crazy right?!

Action

Action speak louder then words.

We, the school, the team, the coaches, the administration... We're all accepting mediocrity.  Don't talk it.  Walk it.  Put up or shut up.

There was no accountability for anyone this year. Let's all enjoy the years of futility ahead.

Parent

Parent here, and yes my kids play sports.

Hated the game.  Losing to OSU at home is not acceptable in any way, shape, or form.  Yes, the kids played hard and that's something, but it's still a loss and I've told my kids in this case, someone needs to be held accountable for two years of missing the mark.

Imagine this

How about this:  I'm an employee that shows flashes of brilliance, but I'm consistently late for work, distracted when I'm here, and generally not paying attention.  Then, on the day of the big pitch to a prospective client, I do extremely well but we don't close the deal, possibily through no real fault of my own.

Does that 'loss' excuse an entire year of sub-par performance?

Grats

Well then, grats on your 7-5 season and loss at home to OSU.  I'm sure they'll be great stories to tell your kids one day.

This is the AD fault

When you set a precident that a coach can be fired after 3 years while trying to change an entire team's philosophy, this is what your get.

I'm not arguing that RichRod shouldn't have been fired, but since he was and he never got that chance to really implement his own players and scheme this is what you're left with.

Also, the fact that Michigan has been terrible in big games for what, 10 years doesn't help.  The fan base doesn't want to hear we need 6+ years to find out if Hoke is any good all while paying through the nose for football tickets.

Hoke's record

Oh, so you're content with how well the coaching staff did this year?  This team almost beat OSU (granted, a much better team then us) but struggle with Akron, UCONN, and lost a few more games they really should have won.

Borges cost us last years game against OSU.  He was terrible this year.  You can disagree, but the scores say otherwise.  Negative rushing yards.  Poor QB play as a result of coaching (I think Gardner can be very, very good when used properly).

Good effort in a loss to OSU doesn't excuse the rest of the season.

Proud?

Proud of a loss to OSU?  At home?

Just think, one day you'll tell your grandkids stories about how OSU came into the Big House and only beat us by 1 point!

The problem

The problem is that this team continues to lose and some of us find that unnacceptable.  No one is held accountable for this season and they need to be.  The offensive coaching staff needs to be shaken up.  Am I happy this team fought hard?  Absolutely!  I am proud of loss at home to OSU?  Hell no.

Borges is gone

I think Borges is gone.  7-5 isn't acceptable and neither is this loss.  The fan base isn't horrified we lost to OSU at home, which is a terrible sign that mediocrity is setting in.  Next year is going to be even tougher then this year.

If Hoke keeps Borges, Hoke could very well be gone after 2014 (or should be, with another failure of a season).

No.

Um, no.  Just no.

Coaching

It's obvious that this coaching staff was mailing it for most of the year.  That's what's obvious.  How was Akron even close?  Or UCONN?  Gimme a break.

The coaches did a terrible job this year.  Absolutely terrible.  To give them a free pass is not fair to the current or next years team.

Changes need to happen.  A loss to OSU at home, no matter how delighted you are with this loss.

NOT

Today was NOT a good day.  We lost.  To OSU. At home.

The Michigan fan base has turned pathetic.  You can be proud of how the kids fought and still hold the coaching staff responsible for the loss.

A good day?  And you call yourself a fan?

Another idea

What, you have a better idea why he was absolute crap for almost an entire year and suddently called plays to his CURRENT teams strengths?

Borges mailed it in all year.  He will next year too.  Fire him.  Today.

We are 7-5. That is not acceptable in year 3.

Not so sure

I'm not so sure the coaching staff hasn't given up and I'm not convinced the kids have any faith left.  After Hoke blaming the kids for 'poor exectution' all year,  I think you're starting to see this team fracture apart.  I'm guessing we'll pull one win out of our ass before the seasons comes to a merciful end, but it won't be the win we all want and need it to be.

3 years...

The problem with firing a coach after 3 years is that it sets a precedent for the next coach. Telling the fan base we need to give Hoke 5 years when the previous guy got only 3 isn't going to cut it for most fans.

...and the problems with the current o-line isn't previous recruiting, it's current player development.  Player development is a real issue accross the board, actually.
