Love this. Love lemon and…

Love this. Love lemon and egg on the face. Teske wiped all lemon and egg off my face Against Purdue at the Garden two years ago when my mantra was to play him more, twins and such, and he’ll do it again. Not sure of Howard’s coaching but I know that Teske has much more to be realized in the right situation.  Start with cutting off the post so he can pass. Then, hang on offensive boards when he gets a piece. After that, let him foul the opposing big once or twice early. Then Teach him to draw a charge or pull the rug. Other guys fall into place and we’ll have something.

He can still check guards…

He can still check guards. Teske is 2nd on the teams in steals.  Granted that’s without knowing how they calculate steals. He has a lot of deflections that don’t get counted as steals even with a change of possession. He’s also 1.4 higher in blocks than the 2nd person at 2.1.  I would also bet he’s got the most blocks in the country without fouling on the ball. That’s beileins teaching. So is it Livers never helping on the offensive glass. We’ll see.

Without looking at the stats…

Without looking at the stats I would bet his percentage of three point attempts compared to attempts are way higher last year. He’s getting the ball on the block now and he’s also sloughing off the high screen. Much different game for him on both ends. He also could have flourished along side Moe, as DJ did, in a different way.  He wasn’t afforded the opportunity.

Looked back briefly at this…

Looked back briefly at this thread. Surprised no one posted about Winston’s walk in the 1st half.  For those who have the game on tape. Watch winston’s Feet when he “draws” the foul on Castle at the 15:32 mark. He comes to a jump stop at the foul line. Maybe can take one more step, he takes three. Then to salt the wound they call the nickle dimer on Castle. Then they open the stitches in the 2nd and call teske for a walk where he takes 2.5 fewer steps than Winston did.

Tre’s team got knocked off early BTT but that team was peaking anyway. Can’t remember the last time Michigan was playing better ball in December than March. Unusual season its Been

Anyone else see what I saw?

Anyone else see what I saw?

1) I didn’t think Jb saw z get head hunted. From the replay he looked blocked and didn’t react when it happened.

2) two officials tossed him simultaneously so he crossed the line all at once.

Dear Austin Davis, don't…

Dear Austin Davis, don't read this website.  You're a solid big and you'll contribute just fine to this team.  It's not easy getting blamed for your plus minus when your role is to 'not' touch the ball.  Last night wasn't nearly as bad as most people are saying.  It's good experience that will help you down the line.  Regards, the guy who knew about Moe and Teske before everyone knew about Moe and Teske.

Best defense in the country…

Best defense in the country. Either the refs get involved or we cause enough chaos for a bad or no shot. My prediction anyway.

Wow I hope Davis doesn’t read mgoblog. You guys make him out to be Ricky Doyle. Johnny Cash says let the kid get a rhythm before you trash him. All he’s doing is setting picks anyway.

it sure why JB doesn’t trust Davis. The run against started at 3 mins when NW played ping pong on the offensive glass. Livers isn’t a 5 and Davis isn’t bad.

I’d like to see teske get the ball on the block more so he can pass out of it. He’s always open they just don’t enter it.

Y’all always freak out every time there is a run. This is basketball.

Davis is an important piece. With jb’s odd first half foul laws, he’s a very important piece.

Addressing your three top…

Addressing your three top scorers.

I miss maar. He was an assassin. However he was too unselfish and didn’t demand the ball. Iggy plays more selfishly. Not a criticism but a compliment.

Duncan did not have a good season last year. By my view he didn’t score efficient points In the games we needed him.  His defense was poor in the beginning of the year and then he managed to find success in gamesmanship. Sometimes quickness and positioning but he also relied on tugs and holds. This was exposed against nova.  His fouls per minute was awful if memory serves

Teske vs. Moe. It’s really moe/teske vs teske/Davis except that JB doesn’t play the #2 at 5 very often. When comparing teske vs moe its easy to say moe is a dynamic scorer that was highly coveted in the nba and I would agree. I begged Beilein to play moe more from the rafters at Barclays vs ND as a frosh. I loved Moe and still love Moe. it pained me that donnal and Doyle played over him.  That said, Teske is a net gain. He was unusually motivated against Unc so it’s not fair to only look at that game but he did block five shots, contend 5 more, and who knows how many others he curtailed just by being there. Moe was fundamental, he could shoot, he could ignite the crowd. He could NOT intimidate the opponent on defense. Teske does and can. And does and will. Even Davis is intimidating.  Last year 4 guys worked their tushes off to stop opponents for 25 seconds only to have moe who was often afraid to foul, let a big score in the paint.

Now we have teske in place. He blocked 5 shots and affected and effected many others against Unc. Teske didn’t sniff foul trouble. Stats say he had 3 fouls. I remember one was a reach in (he aided 3 steals), and another was while blocking out for a rebound with position. Don’t remember third, also don’t remember teske fouling one shooter (opponent free throws) which is almost unheard of for a shot blocker.

we’re lucky to have iggy, lucky Mathews stayed. Lucky Z is the fastest player in the country. We’re just lucky. Hopefully we never run into a team that tops us from three by 15-20% and we never have to play Duke. Any team can lose but likely we won’t.

Its interesting because…

Its interesting because being ready is different that whether it's time.  I didn't think Nik was ready but his projections were so high, it was time for him.  Gun to my head I would say Iggy will not be ready or projected high enough by the end of the year to justify leaving.  Not to say I am not impressed as hell, I am. It's just a big ask to guard off guards in the NBA.  I can't see him on Hardaway in 12 months.

Teske logged a lot of…

Teske logged a lot of minutes last night.  I think he should be more like 30-32 range over the course of the season.  It would be nice if Davis can give 8-10 quality minutes so it can be a two man rotation, not have to worry about Johns or Castleton.  Davis looked better before the injury, I wonder if he's not 100 percent yet.

Love it if JB stayed away from expanding the rotation in general.  The days of giving Dawkins, Kam, Bielfelt, Doyle and last year Ibi, 5 mins here and there didn't do anyone any favors... and apparently leads someone to transfer?

I never called for Beilein…

I never called for Beilein to be fired but have always took him to task. The post is absolutely true JB has adapted and it’s a great summary and post.  He’s a much better coach today. The offense he used to run with Morris where the ball didn’t touch the paint for 4-5 possessions in a row was mind blowing.

The defense, I don’t know if it’s the coaching or the talent or both but this is the best defensive team since I’ve been watching in the mid 80’s.

Last night the only thing that I didn’t understand about the coaching was the decision to leave the key open on FT’s. Then we did put people on the lane, they retreated as soon as the shot went up. If you’re going to stink at free throw shooting, why not try to stay home and make something happen with the rebound?  Probably has something to do with fear of loose ball fouls but rebounds off ft’s happen all the time and they’re back breaking for an opponent.

He’s had a great start. Let…

He’s had a great start. Let’s not get too crazy. He’s playing teams that don’t have much film on him, and they have a lot of other things to worry about. I don’t know UNC’s players well enough but I would imagine their best defender got Matthews.

One was called a foul but…

One was called a foul but teske knocked away four balls. Not sure how the stats work but he was the catalyst for three steals including the one before half. He knocked it away and then got on the floor after it. Also only gets credit for two assists when his passing created more than two buckets. I’d like to see him get more opportunities to pass out of the post. It’s not really a Beilein thing to feed the post... so we’ll see.

This team is better than fab five. They had no bench and this teams defense is far superior.  Jalen didn’t stop the ball like Z and Webber/juwan couldn’t protect the hoop like teske can.  Fab five could rebound better with both juwan and cwebb. This squad makes it up with three point shooting in spades.
