Yep - This is one of my hot takes for 2018. Ben Herbert will be a catalyst for this team.

So if we do put it all on the skipper, he fired his S&C coach and brought in someone of high pedigree as well as secured the transfer of one an electric and experienced QB.

Seems like a solid gameplan to this layman.

No, just suggesting that GRCC’s schedule is generally less forgiving than other West Michigan teams in their division. 

Let’s acknowledge that any team that can win it all back-to-back face tough teams in November. Week in and week out? Nope, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t see talent. West Catholic is tough as well as Unity Christian. As for public schools, he faced (and beat) EGR and an 8-3 Allendale (twice).

I certainly agree it’s not metro Detroit. That doesn’t mean he had a cakewalk of a career. Regardless, the staff had done a great job of looking past any talent level when grading the individual.

So let’s play the hypothetical - how does Mayfield look against Detroit or top division competition?

That was a fun game that, as memory serves, provided zero fuel to a Barkley-shaped fire the following season...

In addition to playoff talent, Mayfield has also had talented out of conference opponents and Allendale (who I trust can find bigger DE than what you claim).

GRCC also routinely plays the best teams in the state... this isn’t a great take.
