Kind of worked out OK today…

Kind of worked out OK today...  Got to get some shopping done with my wife to free me up this afternoon to help a buddy hang some doors in his house.  At the end of the day I'll have done more with my life.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I sometimes wish I was a blind homer.  At least I would have been saying, "So you're saying there's a chance" up until that first quarter happened.

I love this program - but I actually told my 10yo daughter she should accept an invite to go hiking this morning.  Told her it didn't look promising.  She's in sunny Garden of the Gods right now blissfully ignorant of 300lb Wisconsin lineman grinding the life out of this team.

In no way do I blame the players.  They are working too hard to be led so poorly.

Seems Rich Eisen agrees with…

He should do it for every school and every school should do it for the same cause. I’d take one and wear one for @UMichFootball https://t.co/fWkbQOq9Hd

Please make this happen!!!

Doing God's work here.  I…

Doing God's work here.  I took the kids to a concert and had to miss the game...  Then found that Fox won't show the replay...  Aaaargh!

Yeah...  but are they…

Yeah...  but are they playing in the bowl game this year???

I went with an electric…

I went with an electric mower about 6 years ago - highly recommend it!  I did the Lowe's Kobalt brand.  For a modest yard it does fine, but if your grass is thick you might want a more powerful type.

Granted I live in Colorado, not the lush green midwest, but here's the thing.  I never have to pay for gas.  I never run out of gas half way through my yard.  I never have to make a run to the store to pick up gas BEFORE mowing.  Any barrier to that process can make it so I don't get it done.

I'm on a small suburban lot, but I can mow and edge both the front and back in just over 1/2 hour.

Also - most electric mowers are much quieter and lighter.  So you can mow early/late w/o noise.  And for hills you won't be pushing as much weight.  Good luck!

Jealous of all of those

Jealous of all of those getting cider and donuts...  That was something my wife and I made sure to do on our trip to MI a few weeks back.  Sooo good.  Best time I've spent getting swarmed by bees.  Ever.

Got to sleep in.  Made breakfast, fixed a toy, now drywalling a closet for some renovating.  Probably going to hang some pictures and tackle a few other home projects.  Being industrious and working through the withdrawal.

Later we'll take my daughter to a b-day party go shopping w/the wife.  The irony though is that she'd rather be watching FB too, so we just kind of mope through the day.  : )

Mr. Elbel - Excellent work!

Mr. Elbel - Excellent work!  The advice of those above who have said to let her set the pace of the relationship couldn't be more spot on.  Just apply that to the relationship in every other area and you'll be well on your way.

Stepfamily ministry is a bit of a passion for me.  Leading a stepfamily of my own is one the most difficult and rewarding tasks I've ever undertaken.

A few other things to note:

1. In many cases stepdaughter who likes you and gets along well with you may become more difficult right after you get married.  Doesn't mean she doesn't care for you, but keep in mind that your wedding also is a loss to her in as it cements in reality the fact that her original parents will never be together again.  Stay the course.

2.  Her age is a big factor.  She will typically take about 1 year for every year old she is at the age of your wedding before she sees you as a parent.  ie a 3yo will see you as a parent by the time they are 6, a 12yo will probably move out before you are fully considered a parent so it may never quite reach that level.

3. Your wife needs to be the authority at first.  You agree on discipline together behind closed doors, but your wife has to be the heavy for now.  You need to build up a rapport with your stepdaughter and if you are bad cop it can retard that connection.  You can still call her out on things, "Your mom and I have a house rule that X".  You start as a teacher level authority, move to that of an uncle, and eventually develop full authority.  But if you try to drop like the marines... not good.

4.  Put your wife/marriage first.  Your wife needs to do this as well.  Your stepdaughter needs a strong model and the best thing you can do is put time in to show her you and her mom are on the same team no matter what.  Give her stability.  Read every marriage and stepfamily and parenting book you can spare time for.

5.  Lastly, know that it really is not easy.  The Brady bunch was fake.  It's certainly not always going to seem like you are doing things right.  So going into it have healthy expectations that some days will suck.  My wife as a stepmom has been at the end of her emotional rope more than a few times.  I have had kids threaten to leave to go with their mom full time for maintaining standards.  It's not always pretty but if you know that struggle is part of the territory then you won't be blindsided by the obstacles that will surely come up.  Don't lose hope, but just don't be shocked when things seem harder than you thought they would be.

I would be glad to answer any questions you have going forward.  Having lurked around here for most of a decade it's my small way of giving back to such an awesome MgoCommunity.

I like Duke, but it's close. I like Duke, but it's close.
Bernard. Bernard.

I'm starting At afford and I'm starting At afford and Luck this week. (2 QB league). Putting him in over Cousins and Taylor, so I like him a lot.
Witten and Sims. You trust Witten and Sims. You trust Wentz much?
Witten. Witten.
Gordon should have more Gordon should have more carries. I'd pick him.
I'd go Foster, until he I'd go Foster, until he breaks down he should be good. Kelce is a strong option too. High floor player.
Rudolph is the most proven, Rudolph is the most proven, but that's not saying much. Tough one!
Luck. Don't let the injury Luck. Don't let the injury noise scare you.

Abdullah. Still very Abdullah. Still very talented.
I'd go with Gordon. He's I'd go with Gordon. He's being primed for success this year. Going to have every chance to be the lead dog in SD. Michael Thomas is my pick, though Sproles is intriguing. Ppr - Riddick. Highest scoring game in the league is likely. Rivers, trust your talent. I like Flacco to have a good season under Trestman, though his WR may limit him. Riddick again. Yeldon and Ivory... Flip a coin. Good luck to all!
Check, check, check, double Check, check, check, double check, check... unning out of enthusiastic adjectives here!
Thanks Cavalry21! Scoured Thanks Cavalry21! Scoured that link for ideas. I'm thinking breakfast or is be a great idea. Still intent on wandering into a tailgate. I'm going to soak in every bit of pregame I can. Uncle Joey, we're back to 5 for the group, let me know if you are interested.
Torii Hunter Jr might Torii Hunter Jr might disagree with that statement. That was a brutal shot over the middle he took. I'd say the shot by the LSU player was more of a Blount trauma.
So far the total is up to 7

So far the total is up to 7 now with others from the blog.  I just have to clear it with the tour guide, but that should really make it a little easier on our trip budget.  Also looking forward to meeting up with those that can join us!

Thus continues the longest wait for a weekend.  Ever.  : )

Never. This is one of those Sweet! My first double post. Now my board productivity is sinking to meet my job productivity today...
Never. This is one of those Never. This is one of those lifetime dreams. When I was a kid we got to go to a Tigers game in the old stadium. (I even have a pic of me on the scoreboard - yeah!) But my parents never got us to a football game. Here in Colorado Springs I'd get to go to home Air Force games. An awesome atmosphere in its own way, but not exactly on the same scale.
C'mon! My first thread took C'mon! My first thread took only four posts to get hijacked! ; ) I kid! Thanks stephenrjking! I'll have to dig up that thread. Already have one more for the tour!
Show me how it's done MGOlocals!

First, thanks to Matt - top shelf in my e-mailing with him.  I have to thank him immensely for the help getting a post up.  If you need any help, he's got my vote.

Hit me with your best ideas.  I'm going to be in Ann Arbor for a few days.

Game day - Would love to see the drumline.  Any tips on finding a tailgate?  Parking mistakes to avoid.  What do I need to have the ultimate game exprience?  Already got sweet seats but I count on your expertise.  Where to celebrate the victory afterwards?

We'll be in MI for a few days afterwards, so cider mills and the Matthei Botanical gardens are on the list.  Is there anywhere else I need to go?  Let me hear it.

Thanks in advance!
