MGoPodcast 6.12: Nevermind, Here's A Bat
1 hour 15 minutes
BATS [Eric Upchurch]
FOOTBALL
The usual pratfall.
BASKETBALL
Big three, yes please. Spike taking a leap forward. Need more production at the 4 and 5.
TALKING BIG TEN WITH JAMIEMAC
This diverges into a discussion about the ticket bubble and Big Ten expansion and how it feels like the breaking point has finally been reached. The appearance of bush league. The Bits Of Broken Chair trophy is amazing.
MUSIC

Is it possible this bat is actually a vampire that's been slowly draining Michigan football throughout the down times?

did anyone here also see the bat (I think the Big Brown species) flying around over the crowd in the south endzone late in the game. I thought it was a bad omen if nothing else.

I may be mistaken, but I think Eric Upchurch was even able to take a photo of said bat as proof it was there...

That is the actual bat.. I shot that photo at the game.

Did Maryland beat Michigan on saturday, or did Michigan beat itself?

Since football sucks. . .
I was in MMB in the 90s and I am so jealous of the shows Ohio State's band get to do. They're creative, well-done, varied and really entertaining.
I actually submitted ideas to the MMB. They were "filed". Le sigh. . .

the tragectory of the Hoke era can best be summed up with the Bon Iver song, "Michicant"...well, the title anyway.

I don't know if this was intentional, but thank you for using a Jimmy Ruffin. It's a nice homage to a great artist who just passed.

I love the 30 for 30 idea and giving a DVD to season-ticketholders. They definitely need to do more to make the experience unique.
(Nitpick: our old PA guy was Howard (not Bill) King.)

Have students in whatever TV/film/communications class do it. It's an all-around win.
The students get credit in a class and more importantly something on their resumes that they can show future employers. More generally, the university should be mining the sh** out of their students in ways like this for that same reason. Indeed, most of these students are going to spend their summers working for free for some, at best, amoral corporation as interns. So, I wouldn't exacly call it exploitation.
It will connect the students, at least in a small way, with the athletic department. Perhaps, I'm naive, but it might improve morale.
It will connect the athletic department to the students and to the university. (Are you listening Schizz?). Lord knows, more of that is needed.
There doesn't have to be a promise that they'l be shown, so there is zero downside.
Damn, the more I think of it, the more obvious and easy it sounds.
As for the MBB, I wouldn't be too down on them. I wasn't there, but the PSU show seemed on the Internet as cool as anything done south of Ann Arbor.

Totally agreed on being annoyed that everyone thinks they need video. Stewart Mandel is the big national writer I read the most, but now they have him in lots of videos since he moved to Fox Sports. I rarely watch them, and usually when I do it's because they get auto-played (also annoying). Man, that guy is not a natural on camera. I also get tired of videos for something like a how-to I try to find online. There's almost always tons of crap they throw in just for length, introducing you to the most basic concepts of physics and what not. So much better if I can read something so I can skip all the stuff I don't need.
