He was clearly not driving the car (unless he pushed the seat up to make it appear like someone else was driving).

He was most likely a passenger while a girl drove him and the girl fled and he covered for her (poorly).

This is my guess as well.

Some people are acting like we know for sure neither he nor whoever else may have been driving weren't over the limit, but we don't. It's just Simpson's word that he skidded on some ice. I'm not saying he's a terrible person. I don't know what the facts are either obviously. Certainly he doesn't look wasted, but you don't have to be close to hammered to be over the limit. My buddy got busted up north for taking a breathalyzer hours after he had had a couple drinks. He thinks it was because he was likely dehydrated after canoeing and not drinking water. He felt totally fine and never suspected he'd be over the limit. Went .01 over and they hammered him for it.

Don't lie to the police about your name though. That's just dumb. I got arrested for shoplifting when I was 15 or 16 with a friend who was a bad influence. He told them a fake name at first. I knew that would be a mistake. Like they're just gonna get your fake name and tell you to go on your merry way?

You really are a wannabe detective. He very well could have pushed the seat up, but there is no proof that he did that lol. What makes that the "most likely" scenario?

In fact, his demeanor in the video where he doesn't seem to know how to handle the situation makes me think it's less likely he would have the idea of pushing the seat up to make it look like someone else was driving.

But hey, you're Sherlock Holmes apparently.

sometimes when people are being dumb, you have to call them out. Calling me a wannabe detective, or sherlock holmes, for pointing out what THE POLICE discovered in their INVESTIGATION which has been completed. You deserve to be called a fucking idiot when you're being one.

Enlighten me on how i'm an internet detective lmao. troll

Is this message board not for discussions? And obviously I do. And you don't, so move on.

Love the ol' "why are you concerned so much about this" remark...... I'm discussing it on a dam message board, I'm not going to the police and complaining he should be jailed or something, shit. Sorry I'm not a Michigan slappy like you and most others on here and see Michigan as perfect.

What a silly, naive and childish comment. If you can't discuss situations like a grown man, thats not my fault.

I said before that a lot of adults lie to cops when pulled over (maybe not to the extent of fake name). “Do you know why I pulled you over?” No officer I don’t “Do you know how fast you were going?” Gee, I’m not sure.

It’s kind of instinct when you get caught red handed. I don’t think lying about a traffic incident makes you a criminal mastermind. Simpson took it to an extreme in a way that was obviously destined for failure, but I do think the “OMG He Lied!!” is over blown.

Nothing wrong with lying to cops, in fact, I would suggest it. Generally, cops are not your friend. Don’t trust them. They want to arrest you and harm you. But Simpson was absolutely awful at lying to them. He must have never got in trouble growing up because he looked like he had no experience lying to cops. 2 basic rules. Don’t implicate yourself or others and keep your story very simple. Much better to say I don’t know, than to make up some convoluted lie.

I'm sorry, but the funniest shit to me was when he said his last name was Simpson, and the cop said, "like the basketball player", and Zavier sheepishly says, yeah. I'm sorry guys, but if this were an MSU player, the comments in this thread would be a lot different.

If it were a Spartan basketball player the story would be the same or have even less coverage.  I’d be shocked if Izzo suspended Winston for even a minute. Drunk driving is no big deal to Tom as evidenced by Eron Harris.

Yeah we would probably be really enjoying it if Cassius gave a false name. What we would NOT be doing is making it into a 100 page thread trying to act like it a deep cover sent down from ESPN, the local media and Obama to protect them. Because that would be batshit crazy. Like Spartan fans tend to be.

Another theory that was put out by the crackpot spartan detectives was at the weather was too warm for there to be icy conditions. Well the video seems to show that it looks pretty icy indeed. They appear to be melting down that this isn’t going to turn into the huge scandal that they hoped it would.

I'm a fan, and in my fan-world all of the basketball players on the team were at home in tears from the Illinois loss and watching tape vowing never to let the team down again, so I don't actually think that was Xavier.

Hate to be that guy, and there could be a perfectly legit reason. But why did the cop immediately walk up to Simpson and start questioning as opposed to the couple standing near him?

Are they the ones that called the police?

Dray_go_blue

He was closest to the car, was acting as if he was involved in the incident based on body language, and even started talking first. The other people were much further from the vehicle, clearly away from Simpson indicating that they're not together as a group, and their body language indicates that theyre bystanders.  You're definitely looking for something that isn't there....

Are people forgetting that he was in fact the driver which he admitted later?  Cops should have put him in cuffs until he told the truth and then they probably should have breathalyzed him.

There's pics circulating of him that night urinating on a wall inside a bar.  So there's that too.

Not the crime of the century or anything, but he lied to the police and people were put in danger by his actions.

Also, admitting on camera that the car is available for athletes will pique the NCAA's interest.

Serious question, is it worth posing as a rival fan just to say you wanted Simpson briefly detainee and breathalyzed ? So strange. I’m guessing you thought this was way worse, and then when you watched the video you realized it was very minor ? Sorry to disappoint you little brother.

Not everyone who posts things that aren't hyping U of M are fans of a rival fan base just trolling.  What was brought up are legit questions.  If Simpson was spotted out at a bar earlier that night, and was drinking and doing stupid shit, he very well could have been over the limit.  We are never going to know for sure, and I think detaining him or putting him in cuffs without any probable cause is way too extreme.  Everything else though are certainly worthy questions.

jimmyisgod is a known sparty. That isn’t speculation, everyone here knows that. It’s probably about time he makes a new account actually. This Dray guy is probably a little brother Sparty as well. Next time I’m in class bored I’ll read his post history to find out, right now I’m busy writing a paper, I shouldn’t even be posting this comment tbh.

So you're arguing that you've done the research on over a thousand different comments and came up with the results of "It's ALWAYS a troll". Well then, you're the expert! Kind of a weird flex, but okay...

Otherwise, how would you know it's ALWAYS a troll? What do you have to support that any of them are "trolls". Just such an unsupported claim lol.

And you're right, I guess the countless Michigan sports games i've attended, all of the memoriblia and clothing, watching Michigan sports for decades.... all that was to support the Spartans!! caught me...

Also, love how you ended it by calling me a name.... The irony lol...

Are you so dense, that you truly beleive that anyone with anything negative to say about Michigan or its program is a troll or sparty fan? dam that's getting old bud..... Think of something new you Troll

40 year Michigan fan, been to the Big House more times than I can count and my Facebook profile pic is me on the field before a game with my nephew who just graduated from Michigan last year.

Yeah, I am being critical of Michigan lately because this stuff is bad for the school, but mostly because of the Dr. Anderson stuff which is really bad and people keep trying to minimize it.

Gucci Mane is a loser who stalks me.

Looks to me like he got scared and made a dumb decision to lie to to cop, hoping they wouldn't figure out who he was.  Dumb, but hardly newsworthy given the crap that you see people getting into.

If he wasn't drunk or otherwise impaired, this whole thing is a nothingburger.  He got suspended for a game, as he should have been for his immature and inappropriate actions with the police,  and that's that.
