[Yahoo! Sports] TCU spent bowl season prep installing "dummy signals" after learning they were matched against Michigan

TCU coaches learned from other staffs about Michigan’s “elaborate” sign-stealing before the CFP semifinal.

TCU changed signs but used “dummy” (old) signs to trick the Wolverines, coaches tell @YahooSports. TCU players were told to ignore the dummy signs.https://t.co/Ga2Qi8HxlG

Article alleged that after the playoff match-up were announced, several teams contacted Sonny Dykes and TCU about Michigan's system -- Coaches spent the some of the bowl prep weeks changing up their signs, and utilizing old, "dummy signs" that their own players were told to ignore.

Is this tonight's Stalions Revelation? If so, I'm out the $50 I put on "Connor Stalions attended a game in-person"

Also, since every coach who's not looking to throw shade has said everyone steals signs, I'm guessing most teams change up their signs if given a month to prepare. Time to put mics in the damn helmets already

This was an interesting tidbit:

Through history, plenty of opposing coaches have been caught by rival schools scouting games, spring games or practices, yet many of them go unpublicized and are quietly dealt with by the NCAA.

Soo - this kind of things HAS happened in the past, and done with quietly and without the level of attention we've seen with Michigan. Hmm, you don't say...

This is how a normal program responds.

Also, Ross Dellenger is just awful at his job.  I mean, I don't expect a ton out of college Adam Schefter but this story is a great example why these guys sometimes trade access over quality.

Some incongruency in the article. Says they changed their signals but the also says they signaled late so Stalions wouldn’t have time to tell coaches.  Also then said UM still got some signals on short yardage.  But also TCU doesn’t have a record of him buying a ticket.   Guess basic fact checking and questions for clarification aren’t required for a Yahoo reporter.

Wait, but all the Buckeye morons were saying that they tried to change their signs but there just wasn’t enough time to change all of them. Now, we are to believe that there was plenty of time for TCU to change their signs with dummy signs. This is one of the dumbest investigations the NCAA has ever gotten involved in.

Oh, so now you know they were only informed one week before the Michigan game even though it seems to clearly be known based off multiple B1G sources that this is a common practice (stealing signs) amongst the B1G. Get out of here with your lackadaisical knowledge of your soft football team. OSU has been aware of this for a while because they do it as well but the narrative that they just found out right before last years game fits OSU’s narrative better.

Is anyone shocked that the article stated "Coaches from several Big Ten schools, including Ohio State, informed TCU coaches of the scheme" ?

OSU can't handle losing to Michigan in any game. They look for excuses, and if they lose, they will send information to other teams in how to try to beat Michigan.

Another article clearly part of this PR campaign.  Except now they're running out of new material, so using this dreck.

"an elaborate, three-year scheme that has rocked the sport"

"Three minutes after the purchase, he transferred the ticket, presumably, to an associate or friend designated to record the game"

"One coach told the staff that Michigan “has the most elaborate signal-stealing in the history of the world.”"

Yes, the same guy who used his own name and credit card to buy tickets to games was this same genius who designed the most elaborate signal-stealing in the history of the world.

I wonder if TCU assumed Michigan might have figured out their signs from game footage provided to them?

Or if TCU knew about the illegal setup of sending scouts to other opponents to record footage (makes it seem like Michigan wasn’t good at keeping it a secret if that’s true).

This is not news. Hell we changed our signals from game to game in High School in both baseball and football. Yep we used dummy signals too... Good Lord this is one big eye roll.

Wait? I thought we lost to TCU BECAUSE Stalions hadn't sent his minions to record their sidelines. Which is it? We lost because we scouted them? Or we lost because we scouted them and they duped us?

This is just so stupid. But I get it. Michigan means clicks. Us fans will read these stories. Our haters will read the stories. It's also why Michigan is annually the most attended team in the nation and gets the most eyeballs on TV.

Lots of "writers" (H/T Stapleton) are putting their small bit of dignity on the line for this story.

If you think an opponent is stealing your signs, then adapt and change your signs. Don’t be a crying pussy and run to some investigative firm with your tail tucked between your legs crying about how it’s not fair.

OSU and it’s fans could not give a FUCK about the rule itself. They didn’t even know that it was a rule. They don’t care about the sanctity of the game. They don’t give a fuck about fair competition. They care that Michigan is the one under the microscope. They smell blood in the water and an opportunity to try and pile on, and they get to hide behind “wanting to protect the sanctity of the game.”

So Ohio told TCU of Michigan’s sign program.  Why would they do that?  So they would not play us again in the playoff, and they had all the time in the world to change their signs.  They wanted to play TCU, not Michigan, and it had nothing to do with signage.
