WTKA app not streaming WTKA programming

Submitted by karpodiem on

Does anyone know why WTKA doesn't stream its own content through its app? Initially I thought it might be a 'rights' issue, but I'm pretty sure no one owned the rights to the spring game pre-game that aired from 10am-12pm, prior to kickoff. Was the pre-game programming from WTKA available on the MGoBlue app?

If it's a matter of infrastructure/bandwidth, YouTube Live offers free stream hosting (and you can pipe-out strictly audio if you get your encoder settings correct).

But yeah, I was on the east-side of Metro-Detroit yesterday morning and the audio from 1050am was barely intelligible.

TuneIn radio doesn't stream the right content either. I've had to use iHeart radio, tho when you put WTKA on, you'll have to listen to a bunch of advertisement before it starts playing whatever is on.

Cut off at 11:03 ET yesterday and wasn't able to stream it through any other apps either.

I've found WTKA is generally not very reliable--when I lived in Europe I thought the problem was rights and where I was, but the availability is still inconsistent now that I'm back in the US.  I guess I can't complain too much since the service is free, but I just don't count on being able to listen to them.

I heard the pregame on the iHeartRadio app yesterday, and I'm listening to A View From the Backfield on it right now. I gave up on the WTKA app a while ago. It was always a little sketchy.

The Michigan Insider podcast gets you most of the wtka content a UM fan would want. Personally I use the Downcast podcast app to access it but there are lots of others.

I've found they update the iTunes podcasts daily. Sometimes it might not include the opening or closing portions of the show, but otherwise I listen to their content daily and typically around lunch.

iHeart was always random on what it would broadcast for them... The app is good for the AM shows but we didn't use it tailgating yesterday. I think they stream but whether or not the app picks it all up might be sketchy for live stuff.

I have good luck listening to Sam Webb's Michigan Insider on the iPhone WTKA app.  For some reason, it won't work over the iPhone in my car when Bluetooth is enabled and I attempt to play the radio over the car's audio system.

I never have been able to download podcasts over the iPhone, and I've tried both the WTKA app as well as Safari.

for me. Yesterday there seemed to be a glitch, had seen this once or twice before. I listen over the app during the morning often, and the podcasts are up within an hour or less. I have Apple gear and I use iTunes, may make a difference.

http://www.stationcaster.com/stations/wtka/rss/?c=4701 I use this address, manually loaded to my podcast player on my Samsung phone. Also put it in Google Chrome on my desktop. Very reliable if you are OK listening after the fact. I download at about 11:30 AM then listen during lunch and on my way home.
