I have not paid much attention this season, so I turned on the game and saw we are 11-1 and ranked #11.
Thinking logically, I assumed we'd be a 2-3 seed. Went to a bracketology, saw we were a 5??? What am I missing?

Possibly- but I could make the same argument for the men. They've stayed on the 1-line despite missing a ton of time. I have a hard time justifying an 11-1 team being a 5-seed.
Seems like the two committees have very different ideas of how to seed.

Might be something to do with mechanically ranking based on Q1 wins (this theory also explains why OSU has the fourth #1 seed). Big Ten is so good in men's basketball that even with the pause the men have a ton. Women only get so many chances because the Big Ten is overall weaker. But yeah it's odd.

If your old like me you remember the 70's & mid 80's in men's basketball before there was Kenpom, Net rankings and other analytical evaluations of the teams. Back then, like today, the AP & Coaches poll were largely filled out by either interns or writers who knew little about teams outside of the conference they were paid to cover. No internet, no nightly tv - just box scores and a name. Women's bball today isnt far from that.
For example I could only find two rating services for women bball other than the two national polls: RPI (we're 23rd - yes I know it sucks) and Massey Ratings (we're 12th - no clue how good this is)

Michigan Women’s Basketball has not got a lot of respect over the years. We were left out of the tournament after a 22 win season then won the NIT. Again this year we have been disrespected again even though we are ranked #11 in the polls. Strength of schedule is hurting us. If we continue to win in the next few games I believe the seed will get higher. I don’t think we are a 2 or 3 seed unless we win out and win the conference tournament.
