Wings win 1-0 on Brilliant Larkin Goal
The Red Wings win in New Jersey today 1-0. The hero? Dylan Larkin, burning the goalie crispy on a breakaway.
.@Dylanlarkin39 (@DetroitRedWings) opened the scoring in #DETvsNJD to reclaim the rookie lead with 14 goals (39 GP). https://t.co/BT3AgHqjgW

Leading the team in goals, second on the team in points, second in the LEAGUE in +/-. Remarkable.

Love watching hockey, but never having played will never have appreciation/understanding for inner workings or dynamics of the game. Can someone explain how Larkin is +22 when the next highest is only +8?!? That seems insane considering that +/- is granted to the 5 men on the ice, and is not really an individual stat.

The NHL +/- race is much closer. Most rookies don't get that much time on top lines. Detroit has an absolute scoring need and plays pretty good defense so it is a perfect situation for Larkin's stats playing with unselfish players.
The +/- record is 124 for Bobby Orr in 70-71. Gretzky was above 75 a few times.

That move was just plain sick.
This Larkin lad might be good at this hockey stuff.

Huh, he's really slowed down. I saw his 10th goal of the season last game in November day after the UM/OSU game. Let's hope he gets going again.

He was never going to keep that pace up. I doubt he'll finish the season with the scoring lead--guys like McDavid and Eichel have plenty of time to find their scoring groove. But he's good and will continue to do well.

Same thing happened to Max Domi.

The goaltender wound up on his backside trying to stop that. He got burned almost as bad as the Gator defense on New Year's Day.

I thought about that comparison. It looks like he even gets bend into his stick on his fake shot, absolutely amazing.

Already has more goals than his old man who was best known for his big head and epic fights with Probie.

UM hockey great Chris Tamer married a UM field hockey captain and their daughter will be coming to UM to play field hockey in 2017! Talk about good UM genes. Great family from Dexter. Probie was at the end of his career when Chris tagged him here.

I came across this today and seeing you with an OP tonight I thought you would enjoy this as much as anyone/wondered if I'm not up enough on hockey history or whether O'Ree and his story are sadly obscure.

Anyway, my favorite breakaway move was always dragging it across and going with a short side backhand. For whatever reason Mr Larkin seems more effective, though. Maybe that's why he's playing for the Wings as a teenager...

Heard the name, didn't know any details. Great story. I love the finish with Jackie Robinson.

I was at the game tonight and that goal was unreal. It was Cory Schneider bobblehead night and since I was lucky enough to have glass seats, I was going to rip off Schneider's head from his bobblehead body everytime the Wings scored. The Larkin goal happened so fast, I completely forgot. That and he celebrated on the other side of the rink so I had no chance at any camera time. And obviously nobody scored for the rest of the game. The great thing about the Devils not scoring was that I didn't have to listen to thier stupid 'You Suck' cheer.

I never expected Larkin to be this good as a rookie. He's on track to be our best NHLer right now. Best of all time certainly looks to be in the cards too.

A young Steve Yzerman might have a word of caution for ya.
