I was thinking only of the offense. I haven't been paying enough attention to the defensive staff after the shake up to have an opinion.
The linebackers have been all BJM.
I am, however, concerned about what Nua brings to the table. DT recruiting and development especially. Hinton and Smith better be serviceable this year or it’s not a good look on him.
I agree we need to see development given what we had gotten used to under the traitor. The recruiting critiques of Nua are overblown. I do think it is likely we get Rooks, Somerville, and Benny to go with Bennet, Guidice, and Guy. That is a really solid haul. He is also giving us a punchers chance on some other elite guys.
Nua seems to be a bit of a case of on the job training. He’s young and seemingly energetic. I bet he turns out good.
Wtf is even the point of putting in a crystal ball with confidence level of 2? I'm not a fan of the new crystal ball system
I was going to ask about that since I'm not somebody that pays close attention to crystal balls. Seems like that'd just mean he's maybe a Michigan lean.
I don't even really see a point of putting in a crystal ball unless your confidence is at least 5. But I guess it makes sense for 247 because it creates more crystal balls, articles for insiders to write, and more reader engagement
Seriously. What’s the difference between 2 and 3? Does a 1 mean if you had to guess that’s what your guess would be? 5 means relative confidence? 9 means you are fairly certain?
Seems like they could have three categories.
It's probably a percentage equivalent - 20%, 80% etc..
I think the intention was to create some degree of clarity in the system so that instead of No CB, Foggy, or CB in the old system which was basically two forms of "i have no idea" and one form of a prediction. Now with the switch its more either "i have no idea" or "here's my best guess and how informed that guess is"
It's still arbitrary and even total locks CBs don't guarantee anything, but I think its an improvement
It’s better then them putting in a foggy Crystal Ball. It’s kinda like this team is in the lead but he may not end up there.
I’m actually glad that Buddin is trending towards PSU. I was waiting for state to get him or even Andrel Anthony and have them create their recruiting narrative for the next 3 years. “We beat Michigan head to head for the instate players we wanted”. Mel Tucker gets a contract extension prior to week 1.
PSU is already trying to push that narrative though even though the only Michigan guys they've really poached from us are the King twins and Lance Dixon
Franklin is a used car salesman with some good success. He’s going to get his guys.
How involved was Michigan with the King twins? It seemed like Michigan was set on taking certain linebackers and I don’t think Kobe King was one of those linebackers. I think Michigan might have wanted Kalen but he wasn’t coming without Kobe.
I'm not entirely sure where they were on our board. Pretty sure they were takes, but I also prefer the linebackers we got
If we didn’t want KJ Hamler, then there is a flaw in our scouting system.
Got a lot of Michigan ballz today. For Edwards, Somerville, Rook
Wiltfong now put one in for Somerville to Michigan, confidence level 9.
Also worth noting Prophet Brown has had his switched to Oklahoma.
Could be prophetic.
That's a really solid name.
He may profit from it with the new NCAA rules.
Regarding Wiltfong, I hope Harbaugh has a discussion with him to try to improve the perceived recruiting flaws, right or wrong, because an opinion like his actually matters in that world.
Pretty sure Harbaugh thinks zero of Wiltfongs opinion ....
Recruits think differently.
Doubt it.
Steve Wiltfong knows less than 1/1000th of what Harbaugh knows about football.
If Wiltfong was some master talent evalutor, a power 5 school would have made him Director of Recruiting.
The people who value Steve W are grown men who live and die by the decisions of 17-19 year olds.
Bingo, they matter to those who take his word as gospel and who like to panic about recruiting. Sure, he could be right about what he said, but at the end of the day all that matters are the results of who the staff gets to sign. A recruits perception of a program is going to based on their personal experience. It's not like some kid is going to say "Man I really like Michigan, Jay Harbaugh and Josh Gattis are showing me love and connecting with my family, but Steve Wiltfong said they aren't organized.."
Get em frank
I highly doubt recruits care about the opinions of a recruiting analyst.
Yea, but what does Harbaugh think of Wilfong's balls?
This would be a real treat for me.
TJ Guy, Somerville, Hood, Colson, Rooks, Bennett, Benny, Guidice - that is a strong front seven (ok 8) to build a defense if they all join.
Done
This is awesome. I think the big thing that Jim gets criticized the most on is when kids that are low 2* are getting committable offers when there’s PLENTY of better kids out there to get.
I get it Bell worked out but in order to keep up with OSU or just try and be OSU you cannot hand out scholarships to those types of players. There’s a punter ranked higher than Phinney and Guidice.
We keep or accept Phinney but stop recruiting Buddin...huh???
I got three words for ya ...... Beat the Bucks.
Getting Edwards would be BIG!
IF we close...obviously a big if and I don't want to jinx anything, but if we do indeed close with this momentum, we could be looking at a top 5 class and only a couple holes....A college ready DT (very rare anyways...probably 1 or 2 a year and they usually go to Bama or LSU) and an elite corner.
This could end up being a really solid class despite all the complaining the last few months.
I’ll take Wiltfong at a 6 over some other jamoke at a 10.
