Will Sparty get two Prime Time spankings in a 3 week span?

Submitted by KennyHiggins on

Really enjoyed the horror show MSU fans got to observe last night.  Should get news on game time for M-MSU in next 24 hours.  Still a compelling enough game for a prime time (7 or 8pm) beatdown?

I think this team (when the Offensive is at least somewhat in sync) is easily good enough to beat MSU.

Howeva, one emotional game with Okorn as QB savior is not good enough for this team to take ANY MSU team for granted.

I think Michigan's D is on fire, I think the O is still shaky (maybe in a different way now), and I think the timing of this bye week is a magical gift from the football fairies.

I cannot see any way in hell that a noon kickoff is possible for this game, especially given the competing slate around the country and around the Big Ten on October 7th. The networks would be throwing money away by doing that.

If it's not announced as a night game tomorrow, it's highly likely it will be 3:30PM (or 4:00PM if Fox takes it).

The fears from U of M fans about MSU is hillarious. I am not saying U of M is a world beater this year, but MSU is not a very good football team. The argument "oh god if they didn't have turnovers it would of been closer" is not too relevant because THEY DID HAVE THOSE TURNOVERS AND HAVE HAD TURNOVER PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST 3 GAMES. You cannot take away bad plays and say "huehuehue if these plays didnt happen we would be good". It is similar to "If Michigan didn't have Steven Threet and Nick Sheridan in 2008 but instead denard robinson, Michigan would of been better!"

"Um...dantonios teams in the past that have beaten michigan (* * * 2015) won because [that] team was better than Michigan and those MSU teams were actually good."

No --- the 2015 MSU team was not better than Michigan. MSU won that game on a fluke, fumbled punt that had nothing to do with the relative strength of the two teams. M had that game won until the last second. In no way could you argue that MSU won in 2015 because it was "the better team."

A 6 play sequence changed that game.  LJ Scott fumbles going into the endzone to make it a 21-14 game and 5 plays later ND scores to go up 28-7 and take the score into half time.  Maybe ND scores anyways on the ensuing drive but that exchange had to take the wind out of the spartan sails.

With grumpy roaming the sidelines. I'm sure the game will be closer than we would like. But if Purdue, at home, throwing every trick in the book at us can only muster 10 points on our D, an offense I think is better than MSU's, I just have a hard time thinking state will be able to muster more than 10 points against us.

I don't really think my fear of an upset stems from MSU putting up more than 14 points on offense.

It's more that I could definitely see our offense giving them turnovers/field position that helps them score.

Not likely, but an upset is possible.

I feel confident, but not as confident as I do about the Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers and Minnesota games (even though I think MSU is probably worse than IU, Minny and maybe Maryland). If this game was in East Lansing, however, I think I'd actually be decently worried.

Can never take Staee lightly. They will throw everything at Michigan. D has been playing well but this game will always be tough.

I don’t care how bad they are. We are getting their best game. They’ll make the tackles they don’t normally make and reel in the catches they don’t normally make.

I’m not saying anything new, but this game will without a doubt be their Super Bowl. I fully expect a war with those guys.

Eliminate the TOs in last night's game, and it's a much closer affair. As has beeen said here many times, Staee will bring its best effort to AA in two weeks. Even if Iowa shakes off the last-second loss (nuts to them; they've won their share of games the same way) and throttles them, the Staee players will still play as if their season is defined by the M game.

Of course, if M plays the way it did in the second half yesterday it won't make any difference, but expect a full-bore effort from the guys in green.

Notre Dame's defense was an issue last year. Besides Notre Dame stopped putting on the gas after halftime to pop up MSU's stats. The pick 6 put ND's defense back on the field to be outgained. MSU couldn't stop them all night either on the ground or through the air. I expect us to stifle them better than ND did but not move the ball as well.

We will know tomorrow, 12 day notice must be given for a night game. I don't think it will be a night kick because the networks realize there is a strong chance it could be Michigan vs a 2-2 MSU team that is trending downwards. It's a rivalry game but that's a harder sell for a national audience. I guess it could still be a night game on FS1 or ESPN2, but no way it would be in ABC's 7:30 slot. I think it will be a 3:30 kick on an ESPN network, maybe 4 PM on FOX.
