Will Kerridge and/or Houma Make an NFL Roster?

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

On our way home today my older sons were asking what I thought of Kerridge or Houma's chances of making an NFL roster, and I really had no idea.  Providentially when we got home the local paper had a big article on Kerridge on the front page of the sports section.  It talked about his pro-day, but gave no specifics on times/speeds, etc,  Kerridge listed some teams that had expressed interest, but not much more.   We all know the pro game is much different than college, and though I haven't ever counted the number of NFL teams that use full backs, my sense of it is that the percentage is somewhere around 50-60%, thus further lessening the odds of their making a roster.

So the question is:  Will either of them make an NFL roster?   Also, do any of you have any type of pro-day stats they could share with us about these two.

Happy Sunday.

I could see Houma as a late round or FA signing with the Ravens. John has probably heard plenty from his brother about this kid. Houma could be a valuable special teams contributor as well.

Houma is short though. Probably 5"9. In a way that could help with blocking but some teams may shy away for that reason. I sure hope both make it in the NFL or whatever other passions they have !

Hiouma has an outside shot of being drafted, but more than likely, both will by UFA. I think Hiouma will make a roster at FB, but I kinda doubt Kerridge will (although he will get his shot).

Full backs are usually not usually drafted, but I think he has a shot at making the roster with a team that actually uses a full back. Harbaugh give him plenty of opportunities to display his talent, and I would think the Florida game alone would have teams interested. Not many full backs can juke a defensive linemen who are already in the backfield.

I talked to Sione yesterday and he's had a lot of conversation with the Lions and Broncos. Following their Pro Day, the Vikings picked up interest. He ran a 4.77 40 at 241#.

I'm not sure he'll get drafted but he'll definitely get invited to camp. His chances of making a roster improve because he can play special teams, which is imperative for a guy like him.

Kerridge's pro day stats were listed online.  He did pretty well...something like a 4.8 and close to 30 reps... but Id have to look it up to give you definite numbers.  Try googling it.

Houma could potentially make a roster as a third down back. He's got decent speed, can catch the ball well, blocks well, and showed some nimble feet withjuke against Florida.

I would agree with others - Houma probably moreso than Kerridge if we're talking probabilities, and then as an undrafted free agent most likely. I really would like to see both of them get a shot though, but historically it seems FBs go in the late, late rounds if at all and even then only a few seem to get drafted nowaday.

Its hard to say.  Not alot of teams keep a roster spot open for a FB.  That said, Houma is a great football player and has a good shot in my opinion.  Kerridge is also good and had a nice pro day, so you never know.

ISERIOUSLY doubt your sons asked about Kerridge and Houma.

I mean, no one even knows these guys were on the team the last 4 years.

I doubt either gets drafted. The FB position is not really important to most any NFL team now and anyone that does use it probably figures they can get a good pickup in Round 6 through to UDFA.

I'd bet Houma gets invited to camp, Kerridge I'm not so sure, but I doubt ether gets drafted. Not a knock on either of them, but FB is just not an important position anymore.

I hope NFL teams paid attention to how Harbaugh used Houma and Kerridge last year. Turns out a good fullback is a huge difference maker, especially in a creative pro style offense.

I think they definitly go undrafted.  The obsticle is the infrequent use/need of a full back in the NFL.  wish them both the best though!

Does Jarrod Wilson get drafted? I think he will be a high-priority UDFA, but I am also selfishly hoping he gets taken late by the Colts, who could really use some depth at free safety.

I think Houma will land and stay in the NFL for at least a few years. He brings a lot of abilities and special team skills as well. Likely not drafted, but he'll find a team that carries a couple FBs and he'll be able to beat out one of them.

He can run the ball, he can block, he can catch the ball, he can cover special teams and he can block for special teams. He was one of the best coverge players UM has ever had. Not sure how many coverage tackles he had in his career, but it's got to be among the most ever. And, the reason he burned his redshirt, was because he was so good on special teams. That says a lot about his work ethic.
