Why not transition Last years offense back in now?

Submitted by goblue4321 on September 24th, 2019 at 9:13 AM

Question for board, mainly space coyote if he reads this. His post was very informative. I thought Michigan’s offense was good last year just missing explosive plays in passing game. So why not transition last years offense back in? I know all spring and fall were repped for #speedinspace ha, but How many weeks would it take to transition that back in? Then sprinkle in gattis stuff like space coyote said should have actually been done. U have a game to rep it in also with Rutgers, so essentially 2 weeks. Harbaugh needs take control and show gattis what needs done cuz clearly it’s not working....

It would be a devastating move of desperation to go back to last years offense. If Harbaugh were to pull the plug on Gattis only 3 games in, he’ll have a tough time hiring any future coordinators. It would also be an admission to the team that he made a mistake and hired someone he didn’t really believe in. You risk the wheels falling off completely at that point.

Harbaugh is singing 80s ballads today (please come back Pep) lol:

I guess I thought you'd be here forever
Another illusion I chose to create
You don't know what you got until it's gone
And I found out just a little too late

I was acting as if you were lucky to have me
Doin' you a favor I hardly knew you were there
But then you were gone and it all was wrong
Had no idea how much I cared

Now being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
But I don't want to

Being without you
Is all a big mistake
Instead of getting easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to you babe
You're a hard habit to break

No, the team needs to focus on getting Gattis' offense humming.  Because if and when it does get going it SHOULD be better than what we ran last year.  And I think it's good to keep the goal line and short yardage FB dive plays.  Just need to rep those more, obviously!

I don't know how easy it is to just go back to last year's offense (or any offense that they haven't been practicing all year up to this point) at the drop of a dime during the season. That could potentially make things even worse. But, I do believe that they need to pick an offensive identity and believe in it.

I don't get why everyone thinks Space Coyote is some football genius.  Any kind of decent football coach that read his posts during the Borges years know that he was kind of clueless

Is that you Jim?  The truth is for Michigan to go back to the old offense at this point will make the coaching staff look completely dysfunctional.  You cant decide to become a #speedinspace team, dedicate 3 weeks of the season to it and then abandon it.  Do you believe it will work or not?  Three weeks isnt enough to know.

The LAST thing we should do right now, quite honestly, is engage in a panic move like this as it would probably produce even less thrilling results than what we've seen to date this season. That, and they've invested months in a new scheme and the people who implemented the old one are not here and / or have supposedly handed off the keys, in at least one case.

I'm not sure they need to make drastic changes.  I'm even less sure that one can mid-season.  What I am certain of is that players need to execute the plays better.  If they do that they have the talent to beat Rutgers, Illinois, Indiana, MSU, Maryland, and maybe Iowa.  They probably need some development if they want to beat ND, PSU, and OSU.  But, they just need to do what they already know how to do and know they can do.  Block the guy in front of you.  Find the open WR and deliver a catchable ball.  Hit the holes that develop.  Catch the pass that's within your catch radius.  Don't false start.  Don't jump offsides.  Don't fumble the ball.  Maintain your gap.  Maintain your assignment.  Hold the edge.  And tackle and stand up a guy until help comes.  Do these little things and the talent will take over and win the majority of the games.

I hope the coaching staff checks the blog periodically.... certainly somewhere in the last four days of blogging, an armchair football coach has offered the magical solution to our football woes.

An issue I have so far with the offense, besides the shit we've endured, is the disappearance of some of the guys that appeared productive in games 1 and 2.  What happened to Cornelius Johnson?  Giles Jackson?  Sainristil pwned spring ball hype.  WTF happened to him?  It's perplexing to see guys do well then completely disappear, especially against better competition.

We are one Patterson injury away from not being so sure about Rutgers. I cant believe everyone is not imagining a backfield of Mason/Milton and the TO fest that would ensue. BPONE would like a word with you all.
