On this whole Urban Meyer thing....

Submitted by WesternWolverine96 on September 21st, 2019 at 5:09 PM

Let's get this sorted out right now.... real Michigan fans, I hope you're out there and stand up and speak up

No way in hell anyone should be even discussing Meyer as a replacement for Harbaugh

We cease to be Michigan if that happens and something we all love will have died forever

In fact, we should not be talking about anything else right now as a program other than BEAT OSU.  This should have been the only goal coming in to the year based on where we are right now as a program.  Period.

At the end of the year, evaluate the head coach.

I love Michigan and I am going to watch every minute of every game just like every year.  I hope the people in here don't add even more toxicity to the program, but sadly, I guess it's inevitable....

Take care my friends, we'll see you around. Be back when the trolls are gone, and I hope Brain and Seth and whoever runs this place still make money off them because you guys do a hell of good job with this site.

BEAT OSU.

Oh yes the whole were Michigan narrative. Well at Michigan you don't win the Big Ten you don't beat Ohio State and you fold like a cheap suit in all games that mean something. You can do whatever you want as long as the were Michigan group think stands then this is the result

Although you're likely just here to troll, most actual Michigan fans/supporters/alums know that there is much more to the game (and life) than "win at all costs".  How you win (and lose) are equally important.  Character matters - and anyone who actually followed he program anytime before 2008 knows that the program put character at the forefront.  Winning was important, but it wasn't everything.

Yep! This is exactly why UM will continuously be behind the elite programs in the country. Does anyone think Clemson became elite out of nowhere by doing the right thing? No. They started paying good players to come there and happened to find a fantastic coach. If UM doesn't get with the times, it will continue to be an average program.

OP is the kind exact dumb ass fan who is the precise reason why UM has fallen behind OSU so severely.

The best coach in the god damn history of the game is sitting there clearly wanting to coach and has said in the past he wants to coach for Michigan, and this dumb fuck says “we are better than that!”

really!??! God damnit! What a dumb mother fucking attitude. Jesus christ

Haha a little harsh but you’re not lying.

“In Meyer's 2008 autobiography, Urban's Way, Meyer said that Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan were the three schools Ellen would have no power to veto.”

I think enough of the fanbase is on board that there wouldn’t be an uproar. Now when it comes to the alumni, boosters, etc., I’m not sure.

I'm neither advocating for nor discouraging an Urban hire, but he strikes me as more mercenary than it seems many here seem to believe. I think if given the right (and by "right" I mean I high enough dollar figure) contract, he'd take it.

He feels like he's the victim. He didn't like the fact he had to sit those three games last year. He would do it in a minute.

What Michigan people need to ask themselves is what do they want the program to be? Ten wins and an occasional Big 10 Championship, or 12-13 wins and a shot at the CFP. If it's the former then you should be fine with Harbaugh. If you prefer the latter, then it's Meyer.

I bet if the money would be right, Meyer would go anywhere. Plus, he would get greater respect here if he came here and turned the program around. Look at Saban, he went from LSU to Alabama (rivals in the SEC). The LSU crowd roasted him for going to Alabama after the Miami debacle. I’m not saying I believe Meyer is coming here, but it’s not impossible. Also, OSU fans at first didn’t want Meyer because he toasted them in the N.C. a few years prior while at Florida. Besides, Meyer doesn’t hate Michigan. That’s the narrative he had to follow because of the delusional OSU fan base follows (no Ms and won’t say “Michigan”). It’s just like our delusional fan base that doesn’t believe it’s possible for Meyer to come here.

Another prime example of the kind dumb ass fan who doesn’t demand more from the AD and football and feels like just because Michigan is Michigan it means anything on the football field.

This is a Michigan sports blog - not a Michigan research and engineering blog.

Good god I can’t believe that has to be said.

Hiring Urban Meyer would be a coup.  Bo was an Ohio State assistant.  Remember how Ohio State stole 2 defensive coaches this offseason and they're now rolling their opponents with a defense that plays to their talent level?  That's what Ohio State does, improve themselves while making Michigan worse.  The last thing Ohio State wants to see is their national championship coach heading to Michigan and turning the rivalry around.

Urban is a proven winner, and right now, that's all I care about.  I don't care about his morals.  I care about championships and we haven't had 1 in 15 years.  Haven't beaten Ohio State in 8 years.  Urban was on TV last night at the USC game and literally said we'd lose if we don't put the ball in our playmaker's hands.  Then today at the half, he looked disappointed.  I genuinely think he's embarassed by our program.  He's not an Ohio State lifer.  He's a football fan and you have to be crazy not to want him leading the team.

Put down the bong.  He knows something about this program that we don't and he wants no part of it.

Something with the alumni,  administration and athletic department isn't right at Michigan.

John Belien leaving for the fucking Cavs should tell you enough.

It starts at the top people

The problem with people like you is that you only care about winning football games when the universe rightly cares about things like, say, propriety, ethics, and fair play. Having a sleazy coach, even a wildly successful one, makes a university sleazy by extension. Michigan doesn’t want to go that way. And shouldn’t. Get some fucking perspective.

and this attitude is why UM is average at best. This is football. The idea is to win. The idea is to obtain trophies and beat your rivals sometimes. NCAAF is a business. This is not a new concept. We're at least a decade behind the elite programs.

You're right, it's much more fun to have ethic's trophies and morality championships.  Who needs to beat their rival when they could have a clean image?  We don't have to start cheating and stuffing roids into our players to win, but we could eaze up a little to help our team.

Fair play is not rewarded.  See John Beilein for example.

Pointless discussion because he wouldn't come here, but he's worlds better than Harbaugh.  JH is a failure at Michigan.  This is year 5,  ALL PLAYERS and they can't compete with a good team much less beat one.

Michigan is the only Power 5 team in the country that hasn't won a single game as an underdog.
