Who is your favorite former opponent of Michigan?
Not all kids who go to other schools are evil...only some. There are some former players though that I do like and support on the professional level that probably caused me grief during their college years.
B1G has been killing it with running backs..Montee Ball, J Taylor, Zeke Elliott, Saquon, Leveon Bell, Miles Sanders, Melvin Gordon...Saquon is probably my favorite. I enjoy watching him absolutely terrify defenses.
My other is probably Victor Oladipo. Watching him dunk, with the power and bunnies he had was so entertaining.
Anthony Thompson and Ricky Foggie.
Calbert Cheaney and Willie Burton.
Anthony Thompson?
I hate Notre Dame more than any other Michigan rival, but I liked Tim Brown a lot. That dude was awesome.
Johnathan Taylor...
Antwan Randle-El of the more recent past...
Rocket Ismail of the less recent past...
A. Griffin of long ago.
Speilman
Archie Griffith.
I saw all four games, was at three of them. We beat the shit out of Archie every time we played them. Donny Dufek in particular landed some really big hits. Archie always got right up and went straight back to the huddle.
Archie loves telling people that we never held him below 100 yards. He earned every last one of them.
I also miss John Cooper, Earl too.
Quinn Buckner and George McGinnis in the Hoops. McGinnis was just a man among boys, it wasn't even right. For a guy that didn't shoot well, Buckner mostly always got his points and was particularly tough on us, because we were a team that wanted to abuse your point guard. We really didn't even bother Buckner all that much.
Marcus Marek
Scott Skiles. Loved the way that dude played and talked.
I hated him as a player but in his post playing career, I HAVE to say mister AJ HAWK AJ HAWK AJ HAWK. He’s just a rust belt kind of guy.
off the top of my head, two guys who had great success and did it with class were eddie george and cassius winston. i will not say i liked them though.
Maybe too recent, but JK Dobbins. My god could he run the football.
Ted Ginn, Jr. was a lot of fun to watch in college, threat to score every time he touched the football. Impressed at how long of an NFL career he has carved out, too. 2020 will be his 14th season.
Not a big Ginn, Sr. fan, though.
Chris Spielman, Anthony Thompson, Darrel Thompson, Keith Byers, Pete Johnson, Sequon Barkley, Rocket Ismael, Cleveland Gary, Drew Brees, Kerry Collins, KiJana Carter, Lavar Arrington, Chris Zorich. Darnell Autrey, Pat Fitzgerald. Mike Stonebreaker Ricky Foggie,
I second Fitz, Autrey, and Foggie. Nice list above.
Big Dog Glenn Robinson and it came full circle after we got GR3.
Seconded! That's who first came to mind for me, too...
Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson comes to mind. I remember he broke us with some game-winning shots at Crisler, but I couldn't help but respect his passion -- and was awesome for his son to come to Ann Arbor and help us with some game-winners of his own.
Also don't hate me, but I have to admit I loved the Flintstones -- Mateen Cleaves, Charlie Bell, MoPete. UM was down and out at the time anyway, and was fun to have an in-state team to get behind. I'd watched Mateen play in high school and loved his spirit. Have also met him in person a few times over the years and he's always been super friendly and engaging, even knowing what a huge UM fan I am.
Finally, I believe we played EMU hoops a couple times when they had Earl Boykins, Derrick Dial, the Thomas Bros, etc. Loved that team -- and LOVED when they beat Duke in the NCAA Tourney in '96! At 5'5", Boykins' NBA career was incredible. Ypsi represent.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Magic Johnson. My favorite college basketball player ever.
