Where is Kareem Walker on depth chart

Submitted by GhostofJermain… on

Was wondering what everyone thought about coach's words regarding Walker.  When I heard it live and watched JH reactions I came away with: Evans, Higdon, and Isaac are the top 3.  It (almost) sounded like once he was done speaking about those 3 and mentioning the 2 freshman that he caught himself and realized he had not mentioned Walker.  He then went on to say Walker needs to improve passpro and could make a jump in season 1 to 2, "shoot, he's in it man".  I may be reading too much into it, but when coach raves about Higdon and Evans, speaks about Isaac getting in shape and a clear cut top 3 - Walker seems to becoming an after thought.. I truly hope I'm wrong, I know some people on here felt like we took Walker because we had to after he de-commited from Urb, but maybe OSU saw something...   Here is to Kareem proving my speculation wrong.

is down the depth chart right now. He didn't play a lot last year, while working on his grades. He also has 3 guys ahead of him who have a lot of experience and are all very good backs.

He will find his footing and improve as the season goes on, but would think it will be another year before he cracks the rotation.

He will get touches. We had 4 RB's last year with touches, so I don't see it being any different. Especially in blow outs. I'd like to see him carve out a nice role as the short distance back, however the Hammering Panda is the fucking man at that.

Bottom line is that Walker right now is behind three other really talented backs. Obviously no program will be without recruiting misses, but as Harbaugh continues to recruit at a high level and builds depth, you're going to have some talented guys at all positions who just can't get consistent playing time early because they're behind other really talented guys. This in and of itself is not a cause for concern. It's how you build a program that can go out and be as good as Alabama, OSU, etc on a yearly basis.

Probably 4th but not because he is bad, but because the 3 above him are just better. Isaac got one more year, we all saw what Evans did last year and Higdon is killing it to Coach.

He will be a RS FR so 4 years left. He has plenty of time to prove himself.

Another RB nobody mentions, Tru is probably 6-7th on the depth chart. I'd love to see him in mop-up duty against the Rutgers' of the world, such a fun little scat back to watch.

but I am rooting for Kareem. He persevered last spring and fall thru classroom challenges and apparently righted his academic ship. Great team see him meet the challenge that will benefit him throughout life. As for his ability, I still believe his combo of power & speed between the tackles will ultimately earn him carries in JH's O. Not the biggest or fastest, but he is solid in both traits and his one step plant-and-go style can gain chunks of yards with just above average blocking.

I'm optimistic about him as well.  He seemed to lose some speed and quickness as his high school career progressed based on how his earlier highlight film was more impressive than his later one, but in the few short clips of him running in the maize and blue, he looks to have regained some of that burst.  I'm eager to see how he does.  I think he'll surprise.
