I never liked the glasses. I thought it was odd he is said he drew inspiration from Woody Hayes. And though I know this has nothing to do with anything, he started wearing the glasses against Maryland in 2016, the week before the Iowa game. That Iowa game is my “marker” for when the upward trajectory kind of leveled out. I’m not above superstition and “jinx type” ideas when I’m comes to sports. I think he should ditch them for good.

+1. My thoughts exactly about the causation and not simple correlation between glasses and the plateau.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:29 PM ^
Didn’t realize that he started wearing those awful frames at that time. I was so pumped after the Maryland game. Harbaugh turned lowly Wilton Speight into Michael Jordan god dammit! Then Iowa happened, and I learned even after all these years I can still be a fucking idiot.
Fuck those glasses!

It was Woody Hayes and Malcolm X, IIRC.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:36 PM ^
He changed his glasses over the summer. He isn't wearing the Woody Hayes style anymore. Someone posted about this 2 weeks ago. Link

Extra milk and steak over the off-season did the trick.

Hopefully he realized they aren’t becoming. Glad to see he still puts a wad of dip in late in the game.

Football coaches and their chew. Sat next to a um asistant coach on a flight a couple years back and he filled up a diet coke can with spit on a 1 hour flight.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:28 PM ^
That’s hot.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:43 PM ^
Ha, yep. I’m trying to quit chewing this weekend. Tonight is the last night
September 2nd, 2019 at 12:39 AM ^
Well I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
September 2nd, 2019 at 12:40 AM ^
did you tell him spitters are quitters?
September 1st, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
I can't wear contacts anymore, they just dry out my eyes. Always feel like a hair is in there... So for the last several years, I put on glasses to drive, and not much else. I do have to carry them around the office, just in case I need to spy something 20 feet away. Hope coach found something more comfortable than I've ever had...
September 1st, 2019 at 9:26 PM ^
He’s not calling plays so he doesn’t need them......
September 1st, 2019 at 9:27 PM ^
Glasses convey weakness? Lol
September 1st, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
Weakness of the eyes. So, yea.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:27 PM ^
OP's user name kind of checks out.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
I'm just glad he's not 1BrownEye.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
So glad he ditched the glasses--please keep them away
September 1st, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
He had Lasik ten years ago. Not sure why he used the glasses in the first place.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:51 PM ^
It wears off after a while as your eyes continue their natural progression of getting worse over time. I had LASIK about 15 years ago and I wear glasses now. My vision isn't nearly as bad as it was before the surgery, but it's not perfect enough any more to live without correction.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
It's not really that easy. A lot of it depends on your initial refractive correction. If done for low levels of myopia, it's actually a very stable procedure. If done for hyperopia, there is much greater regression of effect. LASIK also does not change the need for reading glasses over time (assuming both eyes are corrected for distance).
From looking at his glasses and the advertisement linked, he was probably hyperopic. The "Woody Hayes" glasses were not a favorite of mine. Plus, he was wearing progressive lenses which limit his field of view. If he can tolerate them, he will get a better view of the field in contact lenses.

I got LASEK about 5 years ago, and it will probably do down as being the best $3000 I've ever spent in my entire life. No idea why anyone would wear glasses nowadays.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:04 PM ^
Because there are inherent risks and side effects with the procedure, some people have had major life long issues and are worse off afterwards. Also some people can't have it/it can't be performed on all people. Also it isn't permanent for many so they don't think it's worth the money.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:16 PM ^
Risks are extremely minimal, especially compared to the potential reward of never having anything short of perfect vision for the remainder of your life. If my vision ever gets bad again, I'm just going to have LASEK again.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:10 PM ^
EDIT: Saw you already know about the presbyopia issue in your post below. With that said, you can't always repeat LASIK/LASEK.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:16 PM ^
I can't stand anything close to touching my eyes. I tear up like a 5 year old that just shit his pants at recess.
So, no Lasik for me.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
I completely agree after a decade of Lacic. Only downside is it gave me floaters, which I might have gotten anyway
September 2nd, 2019 at 1:05 AM ^
Floaters can’t happen from that type of refractive surgery. It’s two separate areas of the eye. Your floaters probably coincidentally occurred around the time of your refractive surgery.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:30 PM ^
It apparently causes suicidal thoughts in some people. With my history, I can't take that risk.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:37 PM ^
Not really. Suffice it to say, however, that laser vision correction is not a treatment for depression.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:41 PM ^
Step away from that ledge comrade. Have you considered nice relaxing horseback ride?
September 1st, 2019 at 11:36 PM ^
LASIK isn't for everyone. I have a very unconventional eye prescription to the extent that it would be incredibly simple for it to be done on one of my eyes, but a fairly significant risk for the other. I've come close to doing it a couple times, but it's simply too risky.

Not good for people that need reading glasses and normal distance vision.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^
I had LASIK 12 years ago. Was great, but doesn’t last, particularly when it comes to getting old and being able to see up close :(
September 1st, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
That happens to everyone regardless of whether they had surgery.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
Sometimes he wears them, sometime not. He only wore the Woody glasses for 2 games, before going to more of a square look.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
Probably in a case in his temperature controlled fridge next to his whole milk.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
The jinx is over

September 1st, 2019 at 11:11 PM ^
Concur on ditching the glasses...
September 1st, 2019 at 11:33 PM ^
I concur that he looks better off without them.
But then, I'm vain enough to rarely wear the corrective lenses that I just barely need. If my eyes get worse I'll probably go to contacts, even though it will probably take me an extra 20 minutes in the mornings to put them in.
September 2nd, 2019 at 6:30 AM ^
It takes me about 50 seconds. You get really good at it.

Ad-Rock went into his locker and smashed em.

He also sported that new hoodie for the first time during the game.
September 2nd, 2019 at 4:01 AM ^
He doesn't need them since he's not looking at the play sheet anymore. It has nothing to do with style.
September 2nd, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
As long as we win I don't give a crap what he wears.
September 2nd, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
He's ditching the Woody Hayes look and going with more of a John Cooper look.
