Wheatley Sr. report is premature per Sam Webb

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I'm told report on @CoachWheat6 to Jags is premature. Jags have shown interest. So too have other Power 5s. ALL options still being mulled

The difference is you're in control of the final outcome of your mistakes while Sam is not. (At least from what I gather from your comment - that would be pretty crappy if you could get sued for something completely out of your control and/or die on a daily basis.) The kid makes the final decision. Sam doesn't make the decision for him and can't even influence the decision one iota without risking his job/career. That's a tough comparison. Besides, we all know kids change their minds all the time. And again, like others have said, Sam only "projected" him in the class and stated constantly that he's not saying Najee was 100% coming. Even if the evidence was mounting. He's having similar assessments of Aubrey Solomon right now and is using the evidence of him changing his mind to not throw out a gut feeling on him as well. Aubrey is throwing out similar signs that he's coming, but he is refusing to go along with it at this point because he wants to be right in the end. The only way we should be disappointed in Sam at the moment is if our expectation was that he was a prophet.

In fewer words, Sam never gave a gut feeling on Najee. People saying he guaranteed anything are flat wrong. He made a prediction based on what he knew and said there was conflicting information  He makes predictions because his readers and listeners want him to, not because anyone needs hm to always be right.

He said he projected him as a member of the class, but he never said he had a gut feeling. In other words, he never said he was told by Harris or his family that he would attend Michigan...And why did Sam project Harris to Michigan? Because Harris had submitted the paperwork to become a Michigan student and live in Michigan housing. Most recruits don't do that if they're not headed go a given school.

Why? This is a serious question. Wilcher is doing a great job of coaching at Cass Tech, and he has been funneling a lot of his good prospects to Michigan already. If he goes to Michigan, you run the risk of letting some MSU or OSU sympathizer in at Cass Tech, or at least cutting off your good connection to the state's most talented program.

That's still risky. Wilcher is loyal to U of M partly because he played there, but chances are slim you'll find another U of M alum who can keep that program humming. He might leave the program in good hands, but that doesn't mean the next guy will be as loyal to Michigan. We wouldn't be too happy right now if Donovan Peoples-Jones was headed to OSU or MSU or Florida State instead of Michigan, even if they did spot us Michael Onwenu last year.

Also, after that fiasco with Weber and the assistant at OSU who left the program, not one player has committed to OSU from Cass Tech.  I believe this is because TWi was greatly angered by Urb slick bs and although I doubt TWi would steer a 17-18 year old kid one direction or the other.  He is definitely giving them good advice to make sure they vet everything b4 they end up like Mikey, and wishing to transfer half way thru their freshman year.

So his contract expired this past week and he is looking for other jobs. This is either a negotiation tactic or Coach Harbaugh is looking to replace him. Which seems strange with his son on the team and Coach Wheat being a strong recruiter.

sorry, but JH needs to pay the man better. Drevno and Brown are great, but Wheatley is a better recruiter than both and we need Jimmys and Joes versus ...

Pay the man his money! We could use another assistant head coach or whatever Pep's title is. If it's about money or titles, fix it Warde, before we let one of our best coaches slip away!
